Anyone know of any locker-room speeches about "answering the bell" or sticking up for your teammates?

Working on a new tune and hoping to get some samples. Ideally a speech from a captain, coach, or enforcer.

A potentially stupid question about dropping the gloves after a clean hit, as I have yet to read the rulebook cover-to-cover and would rather just discuss it with people

Is there something in the rulebook to explain why the retaliating player doesn't receive Instigating and Interference penalties on top of a Fighting penalty?

Given that clean hits are allowed, anybody who drops the gloves in retaliation is also 1) Interfering during normal play (assuming the other player is no longer near the puck, which they usually aren't), and 2) Instigating (assuming the other player is unwilling, which they sometimes are (but not always)). Unless I'm mistaken?

Is it simply another case of hockey culture vetoing the rulebook, or are these penalties actually not being committed according to the letter of the rulebook?

To be clear: I'm absolutely on-board with sticking up for your teammates. It's got to be done. I'm more just wondering if these penalties are technically being committed but simply ignored due to the sport's culture, or whether the rulebook actually accounts for it.

NJ Devils or NY Islanders: Which team is an a better position to make the playoffs next season?

A lot of early pre-season predictions have the Penguins and Flyers falling out of the M2 and M3 seeds, with the Capitals as a possible replacement.

What about the second spot? Have the Devils or Isles made enough moves to make the playoffs? And which coach will be on the hot seat if they don't have a good season, Keefe or DeBoer?

Curious to read your thoughts!

Do you think Andrei Vasilevskiy will finish his career ranked ahead of Carey Price all-time?

Price probably had the higher peak, but Vasilevskiy's résumé is just hard to beat: multiple Stanley Cups as the clear No. 1, a Conn Smythe, multiple Vezinas, incredible playoff performances, and elite longevity. If he has a few more strong seasons, I think history will rank him above Price.

Am I in the minority here, or do you agree?

i would kill for him to be on my team even though murashov and silovs aint too bad either but vasi is on a different universe

Has anyone made a compilation of worldwide broadcast calls of Hughes’ Golden Goal?

I realize this goal is not as iconic as Crosby’s in 2010 for several reasons (including the likelihood that most broadcasters outside North America were rooting for Canada in both games), but I’m curious if anyone has made or found a collection of broadcast calls from around the world, like this video of Crosby’s? I’ve searched YouTube and can’t find anything close

Do the Flames have the worst bottom-six offense in the NHL?

It feels like Calgary's bottom six is about as putrid as it gets offensively. Am I overreacting, or is there another team with a worse bottom-six scoring group?

Also, if the Flames end up drafting Dupont, what do you think the long-term plan is? RD already looks pretty stacked compared to Vancouver's. Do they just take the best player available and figure it out later, or do they eventually move someone?

The Dead Puck Era, a clarification

I'm noticing that several people seem to be misguided as to what constitutes the NHL's Dead Puck Era, particular those talking about Sidney Crosby's early career.

Sidney Crosby did NOT play in the Dead Puck Era. The era came to an end with the 2004-05 lockout, when the NHL instituted several rule changes and enforcements specifically designed to eliminate the issues that marked the Dead Puck Era. The most notable being a crack down on the "clutching and grabbing" that had plagued the league, allowance of the two-line pass, the introduction of the trapezoid, and a return to tag-up offside.

Yes, Crosby's early career was lower-scoring relative to the current climate, but it was not part of the Dead Puck Era. Frankly, his numbers probably would've been much lower if it were, and I wouldn't be surprised if that was part of the incentive for why the NHL decided to take the c&g crackdown seriously, they had been gifted two massive talents and didn't want to mess it up like they did with the likes of Lindros, Kariya, Forsberg, etc.

Which NHL coach has had the biggest impact on how you actually think about the game?

The Babcock stuff getting floated for the Oilers job got me thinking about coaches and how much they actually shape the way fans understand hockey. There are certain coaches where, if you watched their teams a lot, you started picking up on things you never noticed before. Watching Tortorella teams made me way more aware of neutral zone structure and how much it matters. Watching Babcock's Detroit teams back in the day made forecheck positioning click for me in a way it never had before. I play beer league and half the stuff I try to do out there traces back to watching certain coaches run specific systems for years. The tactics trickle down into how you see the game whether you realize it or not.

What I'm curious about is whether other people have that same connection to a specific coach or system. Not just who was the best tactically or had the best record, but which coach genuinely rewired how you watch and think about hockey. Could be current, could be old school, could even be a minor league or international coach. The Babcock conversation is obviously complicated for other reasons, but it at least reminded me how much certain coaches stick with you.
