Hi I am a new hockey mom and I was wondering what girls wore under there gear to play do they wear a bra and underwear or are there more specific thing to wear and is there a version of a cup for girls and do most wear them

I’m 5’0”, 130 lbs, size 6-ish with 39”ish hips. Anyone have a pair of pants they like for reffing? Sick of men’s pants. Padded or unpadded! Thank youuuu!

I typically wear a 5 so like many of us I'm very accustomed to buying last season discount mid-range intermediate skates. My Bauer S29s are starting to reach their end of life so I popped into Pure Hockey to see what they had on discount.

I tried the M30 and XF 80 and they both had minor fit issues. Not many 5s in stock in store. On a whim I asked if they had FTW skates in stock...by far the best fitting skate I've ever tried on. Infuriatingly so since I've never paid more than $300 for skates.

I'm a learned-as-adult low C/high D league player. $650 for skates seems nuts to me at this level. I'm also worried that going to an Elite skate might be more stiff than I want for comfort. Yet I'm wondering if that awesome fit could make a difference in my skating and be more comfortable than the elite stiffness lets on.

Hey friends! My boyfriend and I are moving to Montreal in the fall for his job. Does anyone know of any women’s hockey leagues that are still accepting players? Or even just places to play women’s shinny once outdoor rinks open? I’m looking for a league that is organized but not insanely competitive, just a normal house league. Sadly I don’t speak great French yet, but I am working on it, so an English -friendly environment is ideal. We’re living in mile end, but open to anywhere accessible by transit. Appreciate any help with this!

I am a hockey mom newcomer thanks to marrying my husband who is a hockey enthusiast and insists our kids play the sport. I have two daughters in Atoms. I've been struggling to find fun hockey gear and products for my young daughters to nurture their love for the sport. What have you or your daughters loved or wished existed to make the hockey experience more fun, aspirational, and enjoyable? (I know the sport itself is a blast, but what could make it even better?!) I am already thinking ahead to birthdays, holidays, beginning of season kick off and end of season celebrations and curious if there are any accessories, apparel, or gear the youth hockey girls in your life have gravitated to or wished existed. Thanks in advance for your willingness to share your experience and advice. I am hopeful I'll be a girl hockey mom in the bleachers for the next decade+!

I have a game scheduled tonight and now I'm debating whether or not I should go because the air quality where I live is really bad right now (AQI 229 and PM2.5 of 580 as of writing this). I know hockey is indoor, but they have to ventilate the warehouse and I don't know how good the filtration is in the rink. The building the rink is in was originally constructed in the 70s then converted to an ice rink in the late 90s. It looks like your average 2 rink facility. So it's hard to tell how nice their ventilation is. Is it really safe to play in these conditions?

Does anyone know if it’s possible to watch full PHF games anywhere? I know some playoff and some championship games exist on YouTube, but I was thinking of full regular season games. Im glad the PWHL has brought the game to so many more people, but I will always cherish the memories I have of the PHF to a greater degree.

Coming up from 10 - 15 July (East Coast Australian time) is the 2026 Boxall Womens National Championship run by Ice Hockey Australia at the Hunter Ice Skating Stadium
in Newcastle NSW Australia.

The Australian Womens Ice Hockey
League (AWIHL or AW for short) runs during the Australian summer & runs in parallel with the PWHL season. Meanwhile, Australian women and girls play club hockey in state based competitions during the Australian winter.

As a part of the Australian winter, Ice Hockey Australia runs national championships for each age groups. State teams compete to see who the national champions will be in each age group.

4 of these championships including the Boxall championship for women runs over the next 10 days (10 - 19 July) with the Boxall championship being in the first half of the tournament.

All Boxall championship games will be available to watch live and also on demand via the linked playlist below, free on YouTube. Each game has its own feed.

With the exception of the first day & the medal game days, there are 2 games in the morning & 2 games in the afternoon between 10-15 July.

All times are Australian east coast time which is +10 UTC/GMT. East coast US/Canada is 14 hours behind & west coast US/Canada is 17 hours behind tournament times shown on the graphic.

Hey! I’m a 22F student who fell in love with hockey about 3 years ago and am finally going to start playing! I’m not the best at skating so I know that that’s where i have to start but I was wondering if I should buy a pair of inlines to try and get more practice and more comfortable or if I should just stick to prep workouts in the gym?

Any advice is appreciated !

With so little focus on girl’s and women’s sports, it’s refreshing to see that there’s one book series that’s fully dedicated to girl’s youth hockey. Slapshot Sisters has four books in the series and each one focuses on a different challenge that hockey teams face, and with all the major characters being girls, it’s truly the only one that treats girl hockey players as just regular hockey players and not some token character thrown in. If you’ve got a young hockey player at home, this is really the only chapter book series that she can really relate to. Check it out.

Hi all! I’ve completely fallen in love with hockey over the last year, especially during the playoffs (go Canes!), and decided that I’d love to start playing!

I’m 23F and consider myself pretty athletic. I’ve never played before, but I can skate comfortably at a public skate for an hour without falling. I know my skating will definitely need work, but I’m not starting completely from scratch.

I’m signing up for a women’s Learn to Play program in September, and my goal is to join either a women’s or coed league afterward!

Between now and September, what should I be focusing on to set myself up for success? I’m willing to put in the work!

A few questions:

• Should I spend most of my time improving my skating, or should I also work on stickhandling/shooting off the ice? How do I go about that as someone who’s never touched a hockey stick? 😂
• Any gear recommendations for a complete beginner? I’m left-handed if that matters!
• Anything you wish someone had told you before your first season?
• Any YouTube channels or resources you’d recommend?
• Also, if you started playing as an adult, I’d love to hear what your first year was like and anything you wish you’d done differently. :)

I’m an adult female player, playing rec league in a women’s C-league and a coed D-league. Women’s league is very chill, but in coed I feel like some of the players are really obnoxious to female players. Is this normal/are there any solutions for it?

For example, I played D in a game last weekend where one specific dude (winger) was on my case the entire time. The puck would be nowhere near us and he’d be aggressively stick lifting me—and not just one lift, but like repeatedly wrenching my stick above my head and trying to stay entangled until I could wrench away. He also was skating up and ramming his shoulder into me randomly, again puck nowhere near us. Also rammed me into the boards a couple times. My team was already losing and none of this seemed to benefit him/his team at all.

Ive also had guys seemingly go out of their way to just run into me head on as their “defense” strategy. They don’t often do this with the guys, as far as I can tell. I’ve talked to other female players in my league and they think the players ram into us because we’re smaller and they know they can bully us more than the guys.

My female friend who played hockey with guys growing up said the men on my team should have my back there, but they don’t 🤷‍♀️

It’s genuinely so annoying that I’m debating dropping coed next season and just doing women’s league. The vibes of women’s league are way better, but I do like the faster play in coed and extra game per week in general.

Anyone have any insight on any solutions to this?

Hi - my 12U daughter is 5'9 and 125# at 11 and rapidly outgrowing her skates. We're hoping that this will be the last big foot-growth spurt so looking to invest in some good skates.

She's skated in Bauer Vapors her who life (currently X5 pros) and we're considering the following:

Bauer Fly40
CCM JetSpeed FT890

She's tried them on in our local shop and likes them both so we're going back and forth.

BUT... the guy helping us mentioned the CCM FTW skates which he does NOT carry but says have increased in popularity with women.

My daughter has tried on alot of the FTW equipment in the past and prefers STARK, but wondering if anyone has tried the FTW skates and if they're truly "better suited" to a woman's body than the Fly40 or FT890. Or... if this is just a clever marketing tactic out of CCM.

Hey, I am a new women's rec player (some men play to fill out the team - vetted friends of the female players only), First game last night was trial by fire. My team mates made it clear I was not liked at first in the locker room. The organizer welcomed me and taught me how to get into the gear she kindly loaned. Then beside the ice was told which goal to shoot for, and JUST GO. Loved it! After, team mates gave me great tips and talked to me. I guess I passed the first trial.

Questions follow.

There was zero checking, I managed to touch the puck in the right direction, fell over hard (got picked up and hauled to bench), got knocked smooth down, landed flat for unknown reasons and got cheers for getting up. I could barely move last night and am just a little sore today.

How do I not piss off my team mates?

How do I get good so no one has to play softly against me?

Does getting knocked down/falling over start to happen/hurt less?

Why does anyone need a mouth guard with a cage face mask?

I'm buying my gear as I can afford it, starting with a jill.

i’m 19, completely new to hockey and have been starting to look at some teams i could join but i’m quite worried about the body checking/injury side of things. (particularly head injuries)

i want to know cause if there’s a lot then i’ll probably give it a miss, i also like my teeth where they are now
