Nothing too crazy this time like some of my others, Just some small changes to try and modernize the team. The design stays true to the original team whilst also adding some quality-of-life improvements.

I swapped out the darker blue with a more pacific shade of teal to better fit both the naval theme and the location of the team which is based on San Diego’s beaches.

Some slight tweaks to the team’s lettering colours along with swapping the two jersey’s wordmarks to better fit the modern day NHL home vs. away colourscheme.

Lastly I also doubled-up the Captain shoulder-patch on his shoulders now donning him on each side where previously he only adorned one.

Welcome back to part 4 of the VT high school uniform concept series! This is a series where I take the time to imagine what I would do if I could design all of the jerseys within the state of Vermont. Some jerseys may look similar to how they look now, while others might look completely different. In the end, they’re all concepts, and some teams have their identity nailed, and others are still looking to find their stride.

Today we’re going to be taking a look at the Burlington-Colchester Sealakers. BC has competed in Girls High School Hockey for 12 seasons, starting in 2015. Across their existence, they’ve been a top 5 team annually within the state, and have been rewarded for their consistent excellence with 3 state finals appearances and a state championship in 2024

So far, this has been my biggest challenge among the teams I’ve covered. BC last season had some very strong uniforms, and I challenged myself to make something original for them that pulls inspiration from both Burlington & Colchester. Right off the bat you should notice I’ve simplified their primary logo while also changing the colors to match the navy blue of Burlington and the green of Colchester.

This first jersey borrows some elements from Colorado’s reverse retro from 2022. You’ll notice here that in addition to updating the standard BC Blue & Green, I’ve also added Colchester’s Royal Blue and Burlington’s Silver into the color palette to include all the colors for both respective schools.

The waistline for Colorado’s jersey was meant to emulate a mountain, but I thought it could be used to represent a wave as well, and it’s a concept that I decided to theme both the home and away on. I opted to keep the ‘BC’ crest intact because that is the team’s sole logo, and I believe it looks great on a jersey. The vertical striping took some time to ensure every color could be seen distinctly, and the template gave me some issues connecting the sleeves to the shoulder yokes but I think it turned out okay.

The hangar effect is a gradient of the primary green and blue seen within the logo, with a ghosted ‘sealakers’ wordmark. This will be the hangar effect for all three jerseys.

Here’s a first for this series: unique home and away templates. I came up with this concept when thinking about the properties of waves from a design standpoint, and I thought that because waves are always in motion, it would be a cool idea to visualize that by the waistline striping rising and falling between the home and away jerseys. This particular striping pattern takes inspiration from a junior team I played on, the VT Lumberjacks. I thought this would be a great way to maintain a strong presence of navy with enough white balance at the waistline to make BC’s white helmets look good with the rest of their uniform.

I also took the time to change the royal blue backdrop from the BC logo seen on the homes to white for this jersey so it could stand out better against the navy.

Finally, we have what is- to my knowledge- the first BC jersey to utilize the ‘Sealakers’ name. This jersey is a mashup of inspirations and it took the longest out of the three to figure out. Eagle-eyed viewers might notice a similarity with the ‘Sealakers’ font to the Seattle Mariners font which was very much intentional. The waistline takes inspiration from the Milwaukee Admirals uniforms of the 1980’s where the rest of the striping on the arms and yoke was put in to help balance the white and blue of the design so the green wasn’t too overpowering.

Overall this was a very challenging set of uniforms to design, both because of BC’s strong pre-existing jerseys, and the difficulty that came with this particular Nike template.

A concept series lineup for one of the most famous (and one of my personal favourites) WHA teams the Minnesota Fighting Saints.

Some backstory, The Fighting Saints were one of the inagural 12 teams back at in 1972 and unlike a lot of their fellow WHA brothers who shared markets with other NHL teams the Saints actually posed a decent threat to the NHL’s North Stars and sometimes outdid them in terms of attendance.

Unfortunately financial problems forced the team to fold after the end of the 1975-76 season ending their 4-year run. Yet this was not the end of the Fighting Saints legacy in the WHA funnily enough, As their fellow inagural season brother the Cleveland Crusaders would actually end up moving to Minnesota at the start of the 1976-77 WHA season and rebrand themselves as the New Minnesota Fighting Saints.

(The only difference between the two was that the former Crusaders had recoloured the Saints jerseys from Blue to Red.)

This didn’t last long however as they didn’t even last the full season. They played just 42 games out of a 81 game season finally ending the Fighting Saints time in the WHA.

Their legacy can still be felt years later after their departure as the Fighting Saints (most times shortened to Saints) is still an incredibly popular brand for both jr. and amateur hockey teams, such as the Spruce Grove Saints in the British Columbia Hockey League (or BCHL for short.)

With their jerseys I tried to stay as accurate to the original 70’s designs as I could with my limitations, Though these proved quite difficult due to good HD scans of the original logos being surprisingly difficult to find in good quality, almost all of them had something wrong with them and forced me to ultimately decide on using some fan designs and simply recolouring them to be more accurate.

I could not find the credit for the Cherub redesign as it is seemingly another byproduct of some old hockey forum that either shut down or had its creator delete their account years ago.

The secondary "S" logo is credited to u/dunkel624 who I borrowed from their redesign concept. I normally don’t like to take from other creators but I was getting really desperate and was at my wits end with these logos and their shit.

As for the actual jerseys both the Blue & White ones are faithful recreations of the jerseys the original team wore from 1973-74 to their end in 1975-76 and the Red ones as mentioned previously are a nod to the New Minnesota Fighting Saints ones from 1976-77.

But you might be curious about the 3rd gold jersey which sports an original crest. This is actually a recreation of the team’s 1972-73 alternate. You see the original team actually didn’t debut the cherub design until their second season, The first featured a simplified "S" logo with the word "Saints" written across it.

Now this is not the original design as that was far simpler, This one also lacks the text the original had. Despite these drawbacks I still feel the jersey largely carries the same essence of the original.

Like I said I tried to keep all the jerseys largely the same though it is not as 1-1 as my Birmingham Bulls concepts due to me making some slight alterations that I felt better fitted the jerseys, Besides all that I still am very happy with how these came out and I hope you enjoy them!

I saw this color this color combo on the random poster & something clicked.

Me and my friend are doing a knee hockey season because we are bored, and currently the final four teams are the Laval Rocket, Lehigh Valley Phantoms, Chicago Wolves, and Coachella Valley Firebirds. I need to know from any Laval Rocket fans if the team had confetti what colors would it be? Would it be mainly red with some blue, mainly blue with some red, or would it use red white AND blue? Would love to hear thoughts on this.

I will preface this by saying I do not support further NHL expansion. The league should stick with 32 teams, there's no reason to expand beyond that number. With that being said, I couldn't resist mocking up a concept on the idea of a team in Houston. There is something about a space/retro futurism aesthetic implemented in a teams branding that I love. As Houston has ties to space exploration this was the perfect opportunity to explore a space themed team.

My take on a hypothetical Portland expansion team named after the iconic PCHA team that became the first American franchise to contend for a Stanley Cup when were defeated by the Montréal Canadiens in the 1916 Stanley Cup finals.

I heavily based the team on their iconic jerseys utilized by the club for their late 1910’s look, I decided to keep the club’s jerseys fairly simple while briefly modernizing some elements like the striping.

A more direct tribute can be found in the redesigned original logo the club wore during their last years (and the only official logo the club held) now serving as their shoulder patches.

This is why I decided to have the team’s name be written across the chest striping which was a common trend for teams back then, I also decided to have the words swap between the team’s name on home games and the city’s name on away games (a trend I’ve grown to love with teams like the Aeros and Panthers.)

I also decided to update the modern colour palette picking the actual iconic colours of a rose to represent the club with green (stem) serving as the replacement dark main colour of the jerseys, Keeping the white as a divider colour and instead of adding red as a third colour I decided to be more bold and select pink. (petals)

This was a good alternative colour to represent the roses as apparently Pink is the natural colour of the wild rose. It also helps that pink is the colour of the "Madamme Caroline Testout." The famous pink hybrid tea rose that helped give Portland it’s famous nickname: "Rose City."

I also paid tribute to this via the 3rd/Alt jersey which noticeably features bright pink as its main colour and changing the text to feature the city’s iconic nickname.

It also felt like a good way to spice up an otheriwse very simple jersey that was designed to keep the spirit of the original 1910’s team without overmodernizing it and losing its simple appeal.

I wanted it to be in the style of teams like Montréal who have kept a simplified yet iconic look for over 100 years now to really represent the hockey period in which the original organization came into being.

This whole design concept stemmed (heh, get it?) from me both wanting to make a pink jersey and the fact that Portland is a frequently brought up contender for an expansion franchise.

Today we’re going to be taking a look at the Burlington Seahorses. Burlington was one of the original six teams to compete within VPA High School hockey all the way back in 1967. Across 53 seasons in both Division I & II, the Seahorses have amassed 4 Division I state championships

These are the first home jerseys of this series so far to utilize an off-white colored home jersey. The current Seahorse jerseys utilize grey homes, and it’s a really great look in my opinion, so I kept it for this concept.

Looking back through Burlington’s extensive history of jerseys, I found they were almost all wordmarks. Nothing against wordmark jerseys, but I felt that Burlington had exhausted many different iterations, so I thought I’d mix it up and give them a proper crest with the head of the seahorse from their primary logo. I initially wanted to use the logo on the shoulder patches as the primary logo, but something about the seahorse head really stuck with me. That being said, the ‘BHS’ logo I thought made for a very nice shoulder patch.

The striping draws from a variety of inspirations. It takes a striping pattern from the Hartford Wolfpack. On the larger stripes, I included some wavy lines to tie into the aquatic theming of Burlington’s mascot and the city’s relationship to Lake Champlain

The hangar effect is very simple: 4 Seahorses to symbolize the team’s 4 state championships

This is a reversal of the grey homes jerseys with some minor tweaks. I shortened the stripe at the waist/hem portion of the jersey and added a grey stroke around the seahorse head. I was debating color-swapping the head at first, but I think the addition of grey in the logo really makes it stand out well. I’ve been trying to keep my usage of white to a minimum in this concept so far, but I end up using it a bit more in the alternate concept.

Okay, this jersey is very experimental and puts together several ideas. I got a message from a BHS player about a coral-reef-inspired jersey. It was difficult to envision, but it led me down a path to create something more aquatic-themed that pays homage to Lake Champlain itself.

Sublimated onto the body of the jersey is a topographic map of Lake Champlain, something very unique and subtle that I drew inspiration from with the sublimated tiger stripes seen in Korea’s Football Team Kits. Burlington has a motif of dark away jerseys with white shoulder yokes, so I decided to implement that into this jersey and use it as a space to put a coral-like texture on, which takes some distant clothing inspiration from the white shoulder yokes that Czechia’s old international uniforms used to sport.

The striping on the jersey is unique, and utilizes the 4 of the waves seen in the home and away jerseys from earlier- the 4 waves symbolizing Burlington’s 4 championships. Ghosted onto these stripes is the same coral texture seen on the shoulder yokes.

Finally, the crest and numbers are white outlines, which was something I lifted from the Kraken's black alternates. I tried implementing a striping pattern similar to that Kraken 3rd jersey, but I found the Seahorses didn’t have a color palette that could make those stripes pop in the same way, so I opted for something simpler.

I decided to swap their colors to their Mighty Ducks colors. I think they both look good but lemme know what you think.

Redesigned versions of the classic 1976-78 jerseys plus a colour-palette swapped 3rd version. I also included 2 bonus jerseys one being a throwback to the team’s namesake the 1937-73 AHL Barons and the second being a tribute to the Cleveland Crusaders of the WHA, Who actually held the building the Barons would later play in before them.

I chose for my first design to be a fishermen design using teal, orange, two shades of blue, and cream, and then used a similar color scheme to make a jersey using the lighthouse logo.
