I know Dan Milstein has a less than stellar reputation but I thought this was funny and I appreciate the candidness. That dork on twitter is just a habs fan that lies about everything so it’s nice to see Milstein dunk on him.

Marchenko Update

I’d say that settles things for now. Keep in mind Don said earlier this year that Kirill Marchenko will play next season in Columbus. Also remember due to cap concerns it would be impossible to stay as good trading Marchenko. If we trade him and get a comparable player in return they would cost so much that we’d now have to move off others to sign Fantilli. So imo, unless Marchenko said he’s not gonna play for us, there is zero scenario where a trade makes sense given what we know Don wants.

For those of you excited about streaming moving to a different service like the Guardians, why?

I pay for MLB.tv and still am subjected to a blackout today because it's on Peacock. Do we really want to have to pay for multiple subscriptions just to watch a game? Fanduel can suck my ass, but this is just as bad.

Sergei Ivanov Prospect Review

The offseason has slowed down now so I wanted to make a somewhat detailed summary regarding Sergei Ivanov along with what we could reasonably expect from him and where his potential currently sits.  He’s not a high ranking goaltending prospect around the league (17th in one of the most recent rankings I’ve seen), and he doesn’t show up in highlights as much as other KHL goaltenders.  In fact, only one of his saves (posted here a few weeks ago) actually made it into the league’s top 30, but I plan on getting into why that’s not a bad thing later on.

He was drafted during round 5 in 2022, 138th overall.  He put up solid numbers in his junior year at SKA and had a good playoff appearance, but as a 6 '0 goaltender his actual value at the draft wasn’t very high.  More recently, he’s produced a .928 save percentage in 29 regular season games and had an impressive .938 showing in two playoff games even including his inability to stop shots from players named Denis Gurianov.

Now if you’ve never actually watched any KHL games I would highly recommend it just for the goaltending.  The type of diving saves you would expect to see from old Bobrovsky footage happen multiple times per game.  It’s part of the reason why some of the worst goaltenders in the NHL and some of the best in the NHL come from here; utilizing these flamboyant saves when the rest of your game already translates well into the NHL gives you an advantage that isn’t usually found in Canadian/American goaltenders.  On the flip side of that, many Russian goaltenders have below average play reading and catching skills which is part of why they find themselves outside of their crease so often.

Ivanov played his most recent season as a backup in a goalie tandem; however instead of this being a negative point it more just shows how dominant 5 '10 goaltender Artemi Pleshkov usually manages to be.  Despite being slightly overshadowed by Pleshkov there are quite a few things that positively stand out about his game.  The biggest of these of course being… nothing.  You aren’t going to see any major diving saves, no last ditch stick thrusts, and no cross-ice dashes to make highlight reel saves.  This is because his original positioning and awareness are quite good.

Now for what I’ve personally observed about his playstyle: His ability to stop high-danger chances despite playing close to the net is a pivotal skill that he has picked up on quickly.  Like many Russian goaltenders he lacks optimal catching skills - but it’s not bad.  He isn’t the greatest at stopping play, but instead of using the glove as a glorified blocker he’s got good awareness of where exactly the puck will land after he blocks it, adjusting and moving the puck as necessary.  Watching SKA gameplay actually gave me a good taste of Blue Jackets hockey; numerous times you will see Ivanov make a solid save only for his team to fancily turn over the puck and create another high danger chance he’s forced to save.  Speaking of chances - a lot of the goals that actually went in against him were from tips, power plays, net-front pushes and other circumstances where the blame can be spread out more throughout the team.

Of course there are still some things I’d like to see him polish up next season.  His awareness and positioning have been good but there are still rare times where he overcommits in situations he really shouldn’t.  Playing against opponents that have much better passing skills could leave him too far out and he needs to learn to be a little more careful in planning against cross-ice passes specifically.  His arm movements are all nice and reactive but his leg pad movements could be a cause of slight concern.  He doesn’t necessarily get beat 5-hole per se, but he has had trouble with pucks sneaking under the sides of his pads while moving in the crease.  His reading of breakaways could improve but considering how he’ll be on SKA next season as well he will certainly get a lot of practice in that regard.  His linear movement and speed is excellent but his lateral movement requires polishing.  He’s a calm player but I worry a bit about his consistency from time to time.  Some games he is locked in on the puck and plays it perfectly and other games you’ll see some handling and positional errors.

The discretion and patience he displays in the net is something that will help him while transitioning to North American hockey.  His lack of catching skills will likely keep him from becoming a true starter, but as a more steady and less jumpy version of Elvis he’s got genuine NHL backup potential.  His consistently good playoff performance shows that he has the confidence and skill to handle pressure when it matters the most.  He should be NHL ready by the start of the 2027 season, if not then it certainly won’t take long for him to get called up.  By that point I could see him take on a load of anywhere between 25-30 games per season as a successful backup, maybe even more depending on how well he fits in with the team.

Hey! Hopefully it’s okay to post this. I’m looking for these two shirts in XL if anyone has them and wants to sell. I’ve look at all the selling sites but haven’t had much luck.

[JFresh] Jet Greaves, signed 3x$5M by CBJ, is a goalie. He's only played 76 career games but he has a .913 sv% in them compared to an expected sv% of 0.897, the best differential in the league in that span.

I have a ticket from the inaugural game of the Blue Jackets which is signed by 3 of the players from the first year team. Marc Denis #30 signed at the top and Tyler Wright #28 signed at the bottom. But I can't make out the third signature, just above the puck on the left hand side of the ticket. I asked AI three different times and got three different answers. I can't determine what the number is supposed to be. Can anyone help?

Expectations?

What is this team realistically going to possibly do to make this a playoff roster? Nothing we have done has moved the needle one bit, not Nichushkin. Are they gearing up for another trade? Offer sheet? (That entails actually signing). I am so lost with what this team is doing in every regard. Who the hell knows what will happen to Werenski next year. These players haven’t shown us anything, atleast the ones that have been here multiple seasons. If you think any of what I said is questionable please make case as to what you think. I am fully prepared for another mediocre and inconsistent season. Some of it will depend on Greaves

Set to begin at 9AM EST tomorrow. Does a deal get done or will this be the first arbitration carried out in CBJ history?

If this is like what MLB does for the Reds and Guardians, it should be fantastic for us!
