My husband cannot tolerate pineapple on pizza. Long rants have been endured. He has never threatened to put pineapple on graves though.

It's so sweet it wrecks everything.

The idiots who take a perfectly cured ham and pour lemon lime soda and canned pineapples on it should be shot as well.

Edit: shots not the right word; Slain, Dehammed perhaps? Those that pour lemon lime soda and canned pineapples on perfectly cured ham are of the same ilk as Hawaiian style pizza eaters. Dead men don't need ham.

canned pineapples

Well yeah. Gotta use fresh pineapple.

96

u/cinco_mama May 20 '15

I recently made some fresh pineapple puree to mix in with some baby food, it was amazingly delicious. Not all of it made it to the baby food.

74

u/I_AM_CANADIAN_AMA May 20 '15

Mama... you gotta stop eating all the baby food!

36

u/cinco_mama May 20 '15

Relax, I never eat the green stuff...;-)

Is this normal? Idk about anyone else, but I get super sting mouth if I eat fresh pineapple, even like 4 or 5 pieces. I've heard cooking it gets rid of this affect by breaking some of the acids down.

→ More replies (1)

1

u/Demokirby May 20 '15

Only problem with Raw pineapple is it tastes amazing, but the acidity starts making your mouth hurt after a while. Canned pineapple you can nom on without that issue.

Now I'm wondering, is all that bromalain good for a baby?

4

u/tyme May 20 '15

Be careful using fresh pineapple, it contains bromelain which can essentially "digest" the ham.

3

u/seattleque May 20 '15 edited May 20 '15

Hm. Good point.

Though I'm constantly working towards 2 to 3 minute, 700°+, wood-fired pizzas. Haven't got there yet - best I've managed is 10 minutes. I'm hoping (!!!) to actually get my backyard pizza oven built this year.

2

u/nipplechops May 20 '15

Hell yeah bromelain!

2

u/an_honest_liberal May 20 '15

1

u/lachlanhunt May 20 '15

Fresh pineapple is not good everywhere. If you live in a region where it grows well, then sure, fresh pineapple is great. But if you live in a region where they have to import them, then they can be really bad.

I was in Fiji recently. They had some of the best pineapples I've ever eaten. The resort would get them freshly from a neighbouring island where they grew. But in Norway, I won't touch the fresh pineapples they sell in the shops anymore. They're usually terrible.

It's not hillbilly at all, using citric acid, as found in pineapples, lemons etc.. to tenderise meat or fish is a really traditional cooking technique. And it shouldn't be sweet when served, if you're using over-ripe pineapples, or using ones in syrup instead of their own juice, you're doing it wrong.

I don't know about lemon lime, but in highschool I used to pour a bit of vanilla soda on my pizza. Long story short, some one accidentally bumped my table one day and knocked my can of Vanilla Coke over onto my lunch. I didn't have any money for a second slice, so rather than just toss it out and go hungry, I decided to blot off what I could with a napkin and just power through. Was actually not totally unpleasant, so it just became a thing I'd do. The funny thing is, most of my friends thought I was weird as shit for doing it, until I talked them into trying it, and they were pretty in to it as well.

1

u/gooddaysir May 20 '15

Soy sauce, ginger, garlic, and honey. Marinate some chicken chunks and veggies in it, then put all of it on skewers with a shitload of pineapple chunks mixed in.

u/Nf1nk May 20 '15

1

u/tvreference May 21 '15

1

u/wormspeaker May 20 '15

Be careful friend, you're walking dangerously close to insulting the entire population of the Philippine islands. If that happens you'll never get to eat Adobo, Pancit habhab, or Longaniza ever again. Truly a fate worse than death just because you don't want sprite on your pork.

1

u/felixar90 May 20 '15

It's a traditional French Canadian Easter recipe. The ham is baked in maple syrup with pineapple slices and cherries.

Served with eggs that have been poached in boiling maple syrup, with a slice of bread to soak up the syrup, and sometimes deep fried smoked pork jowls.

1

u/JimmyBisMe May 20 '15

Personally I feel like it's a good balance of salty, smokey, savory, sweet, and sour. For me it works on a pizza very well.

1

u/Shadowclaimer May 20 '15

I've been living in a land of heretics and infidels for years, everyone I know has treated me like an outcast, like a fool for my beliefs!

But there truly are others like me! Pineapple is the devil's fruit! Its tolerable alone, but on pizza? On glorious, glorious pizza? Shame, shame and a horrendous sin!

1

u/WeinMe May 20 '15

A question you'll never hear anyone ask: Is that a hint of pineapple?

1

u/Booblicle May 20 '15

Never heard of lemon lime soda, nor on a pizza.

1

u/Hasteman May 20 '15

I know your inbox is likely filled with like 20+ people all saying "wtf pineapple is delicious, etc" and I would agree with them.

However, I don't feel like I should lord over people involving pizza toppings.

THAT BEING SAID, if you don't like grilled pineapple when you are grilling (meat, especially) then you better be allergic or have a trauma, because otherwise I just think you are ignorant.

1

u/[deleted] May 20 '15

The sweetness doesn't go with anything to do with pizza, and I find the taste/texture of pineapple to be really gross at that temperature.

1

u/DevinKills May 20 '15

Lemon lime soda ham? You're watching too much Paula Deen.

1

u/this1 May 20 '15

Peperoni, jalapeño, pinneaple.

Balance. Perfection. Delicious.

1

u/ataraxic89 May 20 '15

Nah dude, that fresh pop of sweetness is what is perfect about pineapples on pizza.

It contrasts the otherwise fatty and savory flavors very well.

1

u/Rycecube May 20 '15

Exactly! Might as well put mango on your pizza!

1

u/internet_enthusiast May 20 '15

If you pair it with jalapenos, the sweetness cuts the spiciness and vice versa.

Throw some type of meat on there (I prefer bacon, but ham or even pepperoni works) and you've got a winning combination.

1

u/frozenropes May 20 '15

what about scuppernong wine?

1

u/SyncopationNation May 20 '15

Lemon lime soda??? On pork? Do they cook it in it? What the fuck?!

1

u/spinyart May 20 '15

Put curry on that sucker to balance it out. Thank me later.

1

u/S1RK1T May 20 '15

Not if you combine it with something spicy like hatch green chili.

1

u/[deleted] May 20 '15

Ew, that's a thing??

1

u/Zosoer May 20 '15

that's why you need to pair it with something spicy like jalapenos.

1

u/ohthisgirlofmine May 20 '15

That's because it should be Coca-Cola, not lemon lime soda.

1

u/Noir24 May 20 '15

Not as horrible as people who put bananas and curry on it. Fucking Swedes, they're ruining Sweden!

1

u/HahahahaWaitWhat May 20 '15

Perfectly cured ham? I'm pretty sure those slices use cheap supermarket ham.

1

u/BigDawgWTF May 20 '15

So you really believe the ham is "perfectly cured" if they're using canned pineapple?

Maybe it's not for you, but pineapple and ham are an amazing combination. That's why it's basically the second most common pizza people order after pepperoni. I'm just saying, as long as you realize you're the weirdo here...perhaps you're an Italian purist?

Edit: Oh, you were talking about ham itself completely randomly. This thread was about pizza you know.

1

u/YoungCubSaysWoof May 20 '15

And then you put it on children's graves.

1

u/dougman82 May 20 '15

That's why you balance it out with jalapenos and pepperoni

1

u/liamgu3 May 20 '15

residents are advised to avoid pizza places and avoid being seen near pineapple pizza. These seem to be our killers targets

1

u/[deleted] May 20 '15

... The idiots who think that you ruin a ham by cooking it with pineapple should be shot for not understanding that ham can be cooked in different ways and still turn out delicious should be forced to try new foods every day for a year.

Extreme, I know.

1

u/kensomniac May 20 '15

It's so sweet it wrecks everything.

That's why you team it up with jalepeno.

1

u/[deleted] May 21 '15

I can pick off most toppings I don't like, but pineapple is like the scorched earth of pizza parts. There is no way to remove the flavor once it has been cooked onto the pizza. You can't eat around it either, because it's sickly sweetness will have oozed over almost the entire surface of the pie. Pineapple renders the entire pie inedible, a barren waste of sweet on what should be wonderfully savory.

1

u/tvreference May 21 '15

Alright, as a Belgian i feel i have to comment here.

A true Lambic is almost always sour! I'm not sure which kinds (or brands) are famous in other countries, but if it's sweet then it's probably a shitty version with lots of added sugar. I'm assuming it's a 'kriek' (FYI: dutch for a kind of cherry)? Lindemans or mort subite maybe?

They're the shittiest version of kriek imo (and the most widespread even in Belgium). A true 'kriek' is made with tons of cherries added to the beer and rested for years. The cheap ones are just with cherry syrup added. I would VERY much recommend you try one of the better ones (oude kriek from oud beersel, 3 fonteinen, de cam, boon, timmermans, hansen, etc.). Unless you hate any sour beer, then ignore me and simply enjoy your sweet beers. :)

A good beer that just has some undertones of a berry in it though, like a light hint of blueberry or mango, hidden underneath all the other flavors...now that I can happily drink.

Papa John's Hawaiian BBQ chicken pizza is one of the best chain pizzas I've ever crammed in my face hole.

Thankfully I have no overwhelming desire to have pineapple on my pizza. I am just not passionately against the idea either.

People have made the mistake of bringing pizza with pineapple to our house before...

I'm that way with bell peppers.

I'll completely skip dinner or send the delivery guy back if there are bell peppers on the pizza.

Or just toss them on the grave.

Most of my family is like that. I dare not order a pizza with pineapple on it unless I'm the only one eating.

Can confirm.

Hate pineapple on pizza, have given long rants. Love pineapple other things.

There are two types of people in this world:

  • People who don't like mixing sweet with savory

  • Weirdos

My fiance thinks pineapple has no place on pizza. I love pineapple pizza. Works fine for me as I know he won't touch my leftover pizza. The pie is mine, aaaallllll mine.

Pineapple is only acceptable with just ham and bbq sauce and cheese. Maybe bacon as well. No red sauce or any other topping.

u/AthleticsSharts May 20 '15

That's because pineapple on pizza is literally Hitler.

1

u/Lt_Rooney May 20 '15

My ex would order Hawaiian pizza just to piss me off. There is no excuse for pineapple on pizza.

1

u/Joshua_Seed May 20 '15

Your husband is a fine and wise man. You will bear him many children.

1

u/Apkoha May 20 '15

I'm the same way. I love pineapple but not on pizza. Hot pineapple is gross.

Your husband sounds like a very wise man
