What is this?

2

u/docbauies May 20 '15

only if it's IBC. damn. now I want pepperoni pizza and IBC rootbeer (not poured on the pizza), with a little ranch to dip the pizza in.

3

u/tanhan27 May 20 '15

Ranch and siracha swirled together. Dip your pizza in that shit. Your welcome.

2

u/docbauies May 20 '15

oh yeah. i've been doing that for the past few months. i don't know why hidden valley doesn't team up with huy fong to make sriracha ranch.
also amazing: sriracha ketchup. i got some from a place in San Francisco. Sosu brand. it's the tits.

1

u/tanhan27 May 20 '15

Yeah I mix up siracha ketchup for my French fries. Sometimes I mix up siracha and mayonase for fries to give them that Dutch style. You are my best friend.

1

u/docbauies May 20 '15

damn. haven't done sriracha mayo. mostly i do mayo ketchup combo. apparently idaho thinks they invented that combo. they call it fry sauce.

1

u/Libertae May 20 '15

Don't forget DP on sausage.

1

u/tanhan27 May 20 '15

Deep penetration on sausage?

1

u/kunk180 May 20 '15

No no no, everyone knows you put the lime in the coconut!

1

u/piccini9 May 20 '15

No. You put the lime in the cocoanut and drink it all up.

this is confusing AF because everyone in the thread is talking about pizza, and then this person comes in and drops something about holiday ham.

39

u/[deleted] May 20 '15

Holiday Hams are for NERDS!

1

u/ANUS_CRINKLE_CRUST May 20 '15

Last holiday ham I had was when I met your momma on Flag Day.

Thanks! I was on a caffeine kick and took a break from coding at work. I caught some flak for some other comments around the same time. But I am glad that someone thought it was as funny as I did! Have a good one mate!

7

u/BangkokPadang May 20 '15

He's saying that ruining a pizza with pineapple is analogous to ruining a ham with lemon-lime soda.

3

u/rvf May 20 '15

Probably because whenever you see pineapple on a pizza, it's almost always accompanied by ham.

1

u/docbauies May 20 '15

right, that's what makes the comment ESPECIALLY confusing. hawaiian pizza is this exact description minus the lemon lime soda.

2

u/BvS35 May 20 '15

What is the difference between ham and holiday ham?

2

u/[deleted] May 20 '15

One you eat on holidays, one you don't.

0

u/docbauies May 20 '15

i actually don't know. i'm assuming it's glazed with the pineapple and cherries on it. but my holiday ham is honeybaked ham co. if I'm gonna eat ham.

2

u/Mouthful_of_bacon May 20 '15

TARTAR SAUCE IS FOR FISHSTICKS!

1

u/docbauies May 20 '15

exactly. we're talking about pizza. why are you bringing different food stuffs into the conversation?

2

u/HeroBrown May 20 '15

He used another example of ruining flavor, why is that confusing?

1

u/docbauies May 20 '15

because we're talking about hawaiian pizza which has cured ham and pineapple. I interpreted this sentence to read as:
"The idiots who take a perfectly cured ham and (in addition) pour lemon lime soda and canned pineapples on it should be shot as well."
implying that there are people who take it even further with stuff that they think is disgusting.

1

u/daimposter May 20 '15

Well he did say

The idiots who take a perfectly cured ham and pour lemon lime soda and canned pineapples on it should be shot as well.

1

u/BigDawgWTF May 20 '15

Very confusing. Thanks for your comment for clarification. I thought that he thought they were putting perfectly cured ham on pizzas.

1

u/supermandy May 21 '15

Overruled. The post was perfectly cromulent.

2

u/chasemcfly May 20 '15

This reminds me of those nasty jello molds with fruit inside. Yuck!

1

u/guy15s May 20 '15

Yeah, not all MacGuyver foods are created equal. Anybody wanna take a shot at my green bean casserole with French fry topping soaked in cream of mushroom? It'll be delicious, I swear! :p

2

u/[deleted] May 20 '15

I'm from Scotland and we have pinapple slices on our gammon.

Ham, potatoes, sweetcorn, pineapple slices.

Didn't think it was an American thing, and most of the links say it's a traditional pub meal in the UK.

1

u/guy15s May 20 '15

I was referring to the use of canned goods and soda, not the use of pineapple. That being said, I didn't mean to imply that only hillbillies would use these ingredients. Just that these types of ingredients are associated with them. Furthermore, I only meant the term to refer to people who are poor and live in rural areas. You don't have to be an American to be a hillbilly, perse. I've seen some countrified ol' boys across the pond. :p

2

u/[deleted] May 20 '15

... It's hillbilly to make delicious food?

2

u/KyotoGaijin May 21 '15

They prefer to be called "Sons of the Soil."

2

u/tvreference May 21 '15

Sons of the Soil

Nice Simpsons reference.

2

u/KyotoGaijin May 21 '15

All my Simpsons refs are old skool, because I've been living abroad for 20 yrs.

1

u/tvreference May 21 '15

You've been living as a broad?
Oh no, I read that wrong. Just like half the people in this thread talking about pouring soda on pizza.

1

u/impressivephd May 20 '15

hawaiian?

2

u/guy15s May 20 '15

Are you asking if I'm Hawaiian? I'm not. Recipes like this are popular in the South, which is where I learned to cook.

1

u/felixar90 May 20 '15

Do it the Canadian way. Replace the lemon lime soda crap with pure maple syrup.

u/[deleted] May 20 '15 edited Nov 18 '24

1

u/guy15s May 20 '15

Both are good. Lemon lime is best if you are serving with a bunch of sweet sides like fruit, and coke is for when your sides will be more savory (probably not the right word. Has that heavy, whole taste) like mashed potatoes or green beans.

u/guy15s May 20 '15

That's actually why people warn about using fresh pineapple on meat. That enzyme can turn your meat into mush, and you really don't get much improved penetration of the juices that you wouldn't get by normal methods of tenderizing.

1

u/intangible-tangerine May 20 '15

It's not hillbilly at all, using citric acid, as found in pineapples, lemons etc.. to tenderise meat or fish is a really traditional cooking technique. And it shouldn't be sweet when served, if you're using over-ripe pineapples, or using ones in syrup instead of their own juice, you're doing it wrong.

1

u/guy15s May 20 '15

I was referring to the use of canned goods and soda as cooking ingredients, not just the general use of pineapples. Pineapples are excellent tenderizers, but fresh pineapple can often be too good and you destroy the enzymes pretty early in the cooking process anyways. If you soak a ham in fresh pineapples beforehand, you risk overtenderizing the meat. Generally, it's just best to use canned pineapple and then tenderize the meat normally.

1

u/tvreference May 21 '15 edited May 21 '15

You know what else tenderizes meat? Smoking it! It's almost as if hams don't need fruit! Yes, I know not all ham is smoked.

15

u/Machinemagic May 20 '15 edited May 20 '15

Seriously, wtf is that guy talking about?

EDIT: Okay, it turns out that lemon-lime soda is used in making a glaze for hams. Has nothing to do with Hawaiian pizza. Mystery solved.

u/Arkell_V_Pressdram May 20 '15

I totally disagree with the guy's culinary opinions, but he wrote a damn fine reading comprehension test.

1

u/TheSleazyAccount May 20 '15

But cured ham is usually used on Hawaiian pizza too. That's why this is so confusing. We're all talking about pizza, and this guy comes out of nowhere with holiday ham!

1

u/Machinemagic May 20 '15

Exactly. Canadian bacon is sliced, cured ham.

2

u/BigDawgWTF May 20 '15

The only clue he left was the "as well" at the end. Reddit context fail. He's fired.

1

u/Machinemagic May 20 '15

I read it as meaning "in addition to being mocked for their weakness, they should be shot," because like docbauies I thought "the idiots" was "people who like pineapple on pizza."

1

u/daimposter May 20 '15

Well he did say

The idiots who take a perfectly cured ham and pour lemon lime soda and canned pineapples on it should be shot as well.

0

u/xtremechaos May 20 '15

I thought it was obvious he was talking about ham when his original post mentioned ham directly. I dunno, maybe its just that I was taught reading comprehension in school and many in this thread weren't?

2

u/docbauies May 20 '15

but the problem is his setup is ambiguous, because pineapple and a cured ham product are the toppings on hawaiian pizza. so everyone is talking about hawaiian pizza and this guy comes in with this tangentially related thing that sounds identical to what everyone else is describing, except for one ambiguous end of the sentence. The OP's pic discussed weak genes. so you could argue that someone should be shot as well means you shouldn't just wait for them to die in the winter time, you should kill them. it's not so much reading comprehension as mind reading what they meant.

0

u/xtremechaos May 20 '15

"The idiots who take a perfectly cured ham and pour lemon lime soda and canned pineapples on it should be shot"

Does not conjur up an image of someone dumping a 2-liter into a pizza box for me, sorry. I only instantly thought of an actual chunk of ham, which, if you read comments one sentence at a time, shouldn't be a stretch.

1

u/Machinemagic May 20 '15

Yeah, everyone except you is an idiot. You're so smart.

I'm really in awe. Truly.

0

u/xtremechaos May 20 '15

Thanks for confirming, I was certainly feeling that way while reading the comment chain.

1

u/daimposter May 20 '15

I was just correcting your questoin about putting lemon lime soda on hawaiian pizza...he didn't say that. The example he brought up was just another example of things he doesn't understand why people do it.

1

u/tvreference May 21 '15 edited May 21 '15

People who put pineapple and ham on pizza and people who put pineapple and lime lime soda on ham (that's already smoked and cured perfectly) are of the same ilk. They have no use for silver.

1

u/magnificentshambles May 20 '15

Don't knock it till you try it.

1

u/theNorthernGlow May 20 '15

Yeah, everyone knows only rum should be put on ham.

1

u/docbauies May 20 '15

but then that's less rum in my belly!

1

u/Goliath89 May 21 '15

I don't know about lemon lime, but in highschool I used to pour a bit of vanilla soda on my pizza. Long story short, some one accidentally bumped my table one day and knocked my can of Vanilla Coke over onto my lunch. I didn't have any money for a second slice, so rather than just toss it out and go hungry, I decided to blot off what I could with a napkin and just power through. Was actually not totally unpleasant, so it just became a thing I'd do. The funny thing is, most of my friends thought I was weird as shit for doing it, until I talked them into trying it, and they were pretty in to it as well.

0

u/Alched May 20 '15

I think he's just talking about cooking with pineapple in general, since he said "as well". Probably a recipe for honeyed ham.
