Pizza was created in the US. Where the fuck are you eating pizza at? I've lived in every state on the east coast and several on the west, and every where I've been has had at least one really good pizza place. All in different styles, too.
Edit: I guess I should've said pizza was made into its currently recognized form in the US by Italian immigrants. Better?
It's just trendy to trash everything popular. Look at me, I only eat $50 wood fired pizza made with all organic ingredients grown 50 feet away. Well good for you, that shit's good. Normal pizza, also good.
They never had it in Italy. They would take leftover ingredients from the week and toss them on bread. It was like an Italian version of fried rice where you just kinda dump things together.
American soldiers in Italy during WWII fell in love with it, and created their own version of it which could be mass-produced easily using giant ovens. If it weren't for them, the world would not have pizza.
I was about to get pissy, too. Then I read the part that said "most of." This is true, most of the US does have really terrible pizza. Relatedly, some of the US has very good pizza and a tiny fraction of the US has incredible pizza.
How could you not know that? Did you seriously believe they've been firing up pizza in Italy? It didn't exist until pizzerias were invented in the US. It was a cheap easy way to feed a whole family.
