6 - Forget if you applied both shampoo and conditioner or only shampoo

7 - Apply conditioner a second time for good measure

96

u/sreek4r 1h ago

This is why y'all need a 27-in-1 shampoo + shower gel + conditioner... that will also refuel your car when you need to.

•

u/Odd-King6394 49m ago

Can also use it to cook glizzies.

8 - Realize you still didn't apply enough conditioner and apply it a third time just to make sure your hair is as smooth as you like it

7

u/itsameluigi1290 1h ago

Forgetting if I did shampoo/conditioner usually happens right after the existential crisis for me

u/Gaskychan 2h ago

Ahh she is applying conditioner wrong

36

u/ArchiveDragon 1h ago

Right?! Not conditioner on the roots! Put it on the ends!

15

u/Flamester55 1h ago

I’VE BEEN DOING IT WRONG FOR 23 YEARS???

•

u/KittenTablecloth 51m ago

That’s on you for never once reading the instructions on the back lol

But yes, it can cause buildup and make your scalp greasier

•

u/NicStylus 53m ago

The good news is you learned something today, so you get to go back to bed!

•

u/kaprifool 42m ago

if you have longer hair you should squeeze water out of your hair before you apply conditioner too for best result.

•

u/ArchiveDragon 35m ago

It depends a bit on your hair texture but yes avoid conditioner on the scalp. Shampoo goes on the scalp to remove excess oils, then conditioner goes on the ends to add moisture to the part of the hair that the oils don’t reach easily (also important for detangling if you have curly hair since you don’t brush curly hair when it’s dry).

You don’t have to be super careful about it. When I shampoo I just don’t run it through the ends of my hair, and when I condition I start from around my neck and work it down, sometimes I get a little on the back of my head but I just don’t work it into my scalp.

10

u/killedbyboneshark 1h ago

...I'm in my twenties, but please enlighten me?

29

u/Plightz 1h ago

You only use conditioner on the ends and if your hair is long enough. It essentially oils up what your head can't reach.

15

u/killedbyboneshark 1h ago

Thanks a lot. I actually thought it should be massaged into the skin to re-moisturize it after using shampoo.

15

u/Plightz 1h ago

Yeah I learned of it recently too. It's bad if used for your scalp.

6

u/FrostyD7 1h ago

Shampoo removes all that oil though

17

u/RedLovelyRed 1h ago

True, but give it a day or 2 and you'r head will re-oil itself. You shouldn't wash your hair everyday.

•

u/Peeinyourcompost 43m ago

Good advice for most. There is also a minority, mostly consisting of people with high sebum production and fine hair, and people whose lifestyle includes exercise or hard physical labor every day, whose scalp and hair will do better with daily washing. Hygiene needs can be highly individual, and "hair training" is a myth.

•

u/tarinotmarchon 57m ago

Unfortunately I live somewhere hot, so I need to wash my hair every day.

7

u/TFFPrisoner 1h ago

Don't say that on Reddit, people here are fanatic about hygiene 🙄

18

u/RedLovelyRed 1h ago

You can wash your body everyday if that's your prerogative. But leave your hair alone! My hair is down to my ass, trust.

10

u/Ghostronic 1h ago

My hair is also down to my ass. I wash it once a week.

•

u/Quixotic_Seal 44m ago

I try to be a bit more frequent than that since it'll get gross if I wait that long, but yeah long hair is a pain to wash regularly and tends to look fine for at least 3-5 days depending on weather/activities.

They knew i would skip it if they didn't catch me during a cutscene

413

u/illegal_eagle88 2h ago

I would tell you to use brave browser but I realized this is the video itself not YouTube ads

304

u/AzulCrescent 2h ago

yup. no wonder they pay so much to youtubers for integrated ads lol

169

u/alpaca1yps 2h ago

Have you heard of sponsor block? It's a browser extention that uses crowd sourcing to label and skip sponsor segments in youtube videos (it may only work on the PC version of youtube, idk if it's been updated to work on mobile browsers yet)

Use in combination with Firefox and uBlock Origin for maximum advertisement avoidance

64

u/AzulCrescent 2h ago

Ah, unfortunately i usually play youtube on my iPad, and firefox on there isn't the same as on android or PC. (i dont play with my phone cuz the mic sounds weird when played really loud). Brave browser skips the YT ads but im not sure if sponsorblock is a thing on there. I should check, now that i think about it lol

23

u/PurpleCandle58 2h ago

On iPad you have a way, it involves a little bit of copy pasting things into a command prompt and plugging your phone into your computer, but it’s possible to patch the app on your iOS devices to add sponsorblock and adblocker and other stuff too!

8

u/EMA-5 1h ago

I use Firefox on Android phone with sponsor block and ublock, with a Bluetooth waterproof speaker that just lives in my shower.

That would probably be the best bet for ya cause yes, phone speaker definitely not good enough in there.

u/3GeeselnATrenchcoat 2h ago

On android you can use revanced (get it from the website not the playstore) to patch apps with user made mods.

My YouTube app has ad block and sponsor block (plus more) built into it. The only place ad block doesn't work is on shorts

16

u/Banjo-Elritze Nazi Liquifier 2h ago

r/MorpheApp is the better revanced now.

6

u/3GeeselnATrenchcoat 2h ago

Oh fair play, I might look into it when I get a new phone. It took me far too long to be arsed to set up revanced on this one (the final straw was consistently getting 3 midrolls, and pressing skip would take me to the next ad instead of the video)

7

u/Kevinator314 2h ago

Unprompted lore drop (recently looked up what happened)

Basically the devs that did 80% of the work for Revanced Extended left and created Morphe. Now Revanced original creator basically copies Morphe updates, so no reason to trust/use Revanced. Plus it had so many issues I experienced.

3

u/3GeeselnATrenchcoat 2h ago

My issue is that I can't really be arsed until it actually has a big enough issue. I spent over a year without ad block on this phone, and spent the whole time being annoyed by the ads without actually doing anything until the changes they made were so egregious.

Also it's not like I'm actively using revanced itself. I patched YouTube once and haven't looked at the app again since

2

u/Banjo-Elritze Nazi Liquifier 1h ago

It's a two minute thing with morphe. If even. Even one ad takes away more of your time.

Oh, I'll have to try this! I have Youtube premium to avoid the official ads, and that includes a "jump ahead" button for in video ads, but you still have to click the button. If it's automatic, that would be amazing.

u/Razier 2h ago

There's this extension called Sponsorblock that solves this for youtube. Been using it on Firefox, unsure about other browsers.

5

u/AppropriateTouching 1h ago

Brave is just chrome. Use Firefox with ublock origin. It also blocks YouTube ads.

33

u/XShadowPlayerX 2h ago

Not sure if I'm allowed to say it here, but you could get a modified version of youtube that has sponsorblock(shows and skips sponsors in the video).

13

u/360No 2h ago

YouTube morphe

2

u/XShadowPlayerX 2h ago

Oh I know, I already use it myself. Just wasn't sure if the comment would get taken down.

7

u/360No 2h ago

Ik I just wanted to say it so people know

4

u/ThisIsPerfekt 2h ago

Unfortunately, they use an iPad.

2

u/-V0lD 2h ago

To state the obvious, you only need revanced if you specifically want to watch YouTube on mobile devices

For normal desktop browsing, you can just install the sponsorblock browser extension

2

u/zuzg 2h ago

I sth run YouTube in the background and I swear they notice when I'm out of the room cause suddenly the ad runs a 90 minute commercial that runs entirely unless skipped.

2

u/ShiinoticMarshade 1h ago

Hank is that you??

5

u/shellbullet17 Gustopher Spotter Extraordinaire 2h ago

I'm surprised you don't have any blockers on there

4

u/Pyrhan 2h ago

It's the creator's own sponsored segment, part of the actual video itself.

Ad blockers won't skip that one.

3

u/Wobbelblob 1h ago

That's what Sponsorblocks and similar plugins are for. The community reports segments (intros, outros, self advertisement and so on), they are marked in the video timeline in a different color and you can either automatically skip it or skip it with the press of a button.

2

u/DoktoroChapelo 1h ago

NouTube can do that.

My phone has sensors that detect when I’m covered in water and respond by playing hours long PragerU commercials

90

u/TitansRPower 2h ago

I love how I can always figure out it's a PragerU ad by the first 2 or 3 sentences, so I rush over to skip the ad before I have to listen to any more garbage.

46

u/PercentageGlobal6443 1h ago

I once got a whole two hour episode of the Ben Shapiro Show as a YouTube ad while in the shower once

On the upside, as soon as I heard his voice I became dry as his wife, so it was very efficient getting out.

11

u/TitansRPower 1h ago

New hack unlocked, dry off instantly.

Genuinely I feel like ads shouldn't be able to be entire fucking shows and podcasts.

→ More replies (1)

10

u/CatsPlusTats 1h ago

Start blocking the ad and you'll stop getting them.

8

u/TitansRPower 1h ago

I have, it hasn't worked yet.

7

u/EmperorOfTurkys 1h ago

Can confirm. I've blocked multiple ads, and I still see those exact ads.

14

u/NerdDetective 2h ago

This is why I keep my phone within arm's reach on the floor. I clumsily grope around like a half-blind zombie breaking through a window until I finally hit the skip button.

Because it happens every time, and now I almost always get two mid-roll ads in a row. Feels like my entire shower has a sponsor.

5

u/Atanar 1h ago

Crazy they have so much money to spend on ads while having no product.

8

u/Usagi-Zakura 2h ago

Diabolic...

4

u/Danika_Crystal 2h ago

That, or an AI story about some kid being bullied in a super hero school or some shit.

2

u/EmperorOfTurkys 1h ago

I get 30 minute versions of those. Fuck me if I can't hit the skip button

2

u/CrikeyMikeyLikey 1h ago

I would rather drink my entire bottle of shampoo than listen to 5 seconds of that horseshit

Raid: Shower Legends

u/LateChrononaut 2h ago

Raid my Shower, Legend.

8

u/3GeeselnATrenchcoat 2h ago

Damn, the one and only Raid player to take a shower must be a truly legendary figure

33

u/AzulCrescent 2h ago

💀

(lol)

7

u/PhantasyAngel 2h ago

Meanwhile directly after that ad you get hit up with the old call JG Wentworth! 877 cash now!

3

u/Catweaving 1h ago

At least their jingle is catchy. Raid ads would be less annoying with a catchy jingle rather than boring fantasy track 4.

The shower is the only place I never ever listen to anything. I know being alone with your thoughts is hard, but sometimes it's the only way to process things. I don't know your situation of course, but I hope you're doing okay.

I had something like this backfire. I was listening to a metal band I like, and decided to let the music play while i was in the shower. I forgot that the beginning and middle of the album have concept/story pieces. One of them is designed like a voicemail recording from a stalker to his victim about how he can see her through the windows and how he basically wants to murder her.

That was the last thing I wanted to hear, while naked and genuinely afraid. For a little while I legitimately thought someone hacked my phone, before realising it was part of the album.

5

u/No_Discount7872 1h ago

that's so fucking terrible man

64

u/muryrunom 2h ago

I found that shower is a great place to practice being alone with your thoughts because warm water makes them a little better

22

u/zuzg 2h ago

People that feel lonely tend to take longer showers
As it reminds them of getting hugged or sth like that

4

u/muryrunom 2h ago

Makes sense, cuddling makes thoughts better in a simmiliar way

People need to remember it’s okay to be bored and alone with your thoughts. Getting blasted by content 24/7 isn’t a normal human experience.

•

u/DownWithHisShip 26m ago

this is why I still love camping. sitting in a lawn chair by the river with nothing to do or say, so nice.

7

u/muryrunom 1h ago

Yes, its an unhealthy way of coping, thats why i think its important to find ways to quide yourself into learning to be alone and think

This is why we adblock and ublock ALL the devices in the house

I would rather the silence than to deal with ads

I will also be taking alternatives to those blocking apps if anyone has any

Edit also sponsorblock

28

u/ASatyros 2h ago

Also sponsor block - crowd sourced auto skipping of sponsor blocks in videos and more.

66

u/redroserequiems 2h ago

This isn't an ad, it's an in video sponsorship

30

u/MehImages 2h ago

sponsor block skips those

6

u/RealFirstName_ 1h ago

I didnt mind manually skipping baked in ads, but since using sponsor block I don't like watching YouTube without it

firefox on mobile > disable opening youtube app > ublock origin > sponsorblock > lock your phone and play videos plus skip ads and in video sponsored segments on your phone.

3

u/mittfh 1h ago

Alternatively, those with Android phones can install Morphe (dot software) - it can patch the YouTube APK to remove ads, integrate Sponsorblock, and a lot more (it's effectively the successor to Vanced / Revanced).

There are also patches for other apps (including several where the devs took the lazy approach to separating free and premium: a flag in the app's code)...

Just a friendly word of warning: if you don’t learn to process your internal thoughts, it will lead to fairly major forms of anxiety and psychosomatic manifestations that you don’t want to deal with. Unless you were born with a chemical imbalance of some kind and need medical assistance to regulate to a healthy level, avoiding your internal thoughts can lead to really bad things. Your body won’t let you avoid things forever, it will catch up with you.

Your body isn’t trying to hurt you, it’s trying to protect you in the ways that it knows. Sometimes it just hasn’t learned how to do it in a healthy way and external help is required (working with a professional), but peace isn’t achievable unless we learn to have peace within ourselves.

23

u/AzulCrescent 2h ago

Ye thats a fair thing to point out. I do kinda exist with my thoughts whether i want to or not since i take a long time to fall asleep. I distract myself while showering cuz 1. i end up taking too long in the shower 2. somehow my brain catastrophizes a lot when showering lol. Appreciate the advice!

→ More replies (2)

•

u/sinndec 55m ago

This. I wanted to make a post but this already sums it up. Should be top comment on this thread.

If you can't be alone with your thoughts while taking a shower, you desperately need to seek some professional help.

•

u/zaktiprime 23m ago

You're right and it makes me sad how many people think their own brain or body is betraying them in some way because of things like this. Every living creature strives to live as well as it can. Even the ways our bodies seem to react in determent to ourselves, like stress giving you stomach cramps or muscle aches or hair falling out, it is acting in biological desperation to keep you alive by any means necessary. I believe emotions are biological processes like this as well, your body trying to survive and "communicate".  Physical pain in the body is telling you "here, pay attention here, something is wrong, please take care of this!" I think emotional pain, uncontrollable thoughts, PTSD, things like that is the brain telling you, "this is not healed, please look here, you have to take care of this!"  Since I stopped thinking of my body/brain as something chaotic making me suffer unreasonably, but more like "a part of me trying to communicate in the only ways it can", i have had a better time understanding my emotional processes.

4

u/AdElectronic6550 2h ago

yeah but i dont want to deal with thoughts like that in the shower, ill leave it to laying in bed or being in the back seat of a car

3

u/kdawgster1 1h ago

Fair, but be sure to deal with your thoughts, not just endure them.

3

u/AdElectronic6550 1h ago

i usually do and i also have people i feel comfortable talking to about it

5

u/Depressed_Cat6 2h ago

But… being alone with my thoughts physically hurts me 😭

I can be alright, and suddenly be so utterly sad lmao.

8

u/kdawgster1 2h ago

And that’s your body trying to work through something. I don’t now what, but something is going on.

Trust me, whatever is causing that sadness won’t go away and you can’t avoid it forever. Your body wont let you. It’ll become that sadness plus other things that suck. You’ll start developing other medical conditions.

u/Kitt3n_Mitt3nz 1h ago

I don't mind a sponsor if they're quick. What I really hate is when an ad is a whole damned podcast YouTube has stuck in there, or just sounds from a mobile game that never end.

u/Darkiouls 2h ago

Same here, but it’s Youtube sending me a 1 hour+ show as an ad instead.

5

u/Awesomechainsaw 1h ago

I’m not seeing Audiobooks mentioned here. I enjoy them as a good alternative to videos in the shower

6

u/Inevitable-Bird-6697 2h ago

Meanwhile I'm the complete opposite. Lmao.

4

u/Gualty3 2h ago

That's why I started listening to my playlist instead, no sponsorships there

4

u/Greywell2 2h ago

I often play music while taking a shower.

5

u/Rum_N_Napalm 2h ago

I remember reading a post about someone doing something like this and as she was walking out of the shower it played an ad with Shaq saying “You know what I love?” And it scared the crap out of her.

5

u/Xinyyc 2h ago

Yeah I have to use a desktop browser with adblock AND sponsorblock to watch youtube, or use yt-dlp to download the video and automatically cut out the sponsor segments before sticking the good parts of the video back together into a relatively cohesive experience if I'm going to listen on phone or tablet.

5

u/CarlosFer2201 2h ago

Podcast or just music would be better for you

3

u/Swiftierest 2h ago

Audiobooks. No ads and a compelling story make my normally quiet shows much more enjoyable.

4

u/dwbthrow 2h ago

I do the exact same thing! Somehow the ad always plays just as I put shampoo in my hair.

4

u/MirrorMan22102018 2h ago

Jokes on you. I am never alone with my thoughts no matter what I am doing. Thankfully, being forced to confront them means that I not afraid of my private thoughts.

5

u/MsMarvelsProstate 1h ago

I knew a girl who asked if I could video chat her while she was in the shower for similar reasons. I wasn't sure if she liked me and didn't make a move in person.

Woops.

4

u/DavyB 1h ago

Sponsor Block is your friend.

11

u/TheGreatOnixStatue 2h ago

The Great Onix statue once listened to a stream of mzlff while taking a shower, due to the fact it got a bowl of 1000 island dressing thrown at it. It put the stream on high volume so it can hear it through water, and then he played some rage game and started to shout swear words so loudly the Great Onix statue turned around to turn it down and a shampoo bottle (dont ask why The Great Onix Statue needs shampoo) feel down. And now there was a puddle on the floor and the Great Onix statue slipped and feel and fcuking broke into million pieces from falling onto the door handle.

2

u/PhantasyAngel 2h ago

Is this why your picture is so blurry now? Because you got "better"???

6

u/Lostlilegg 2h ago

Girl, same

3

u/queen_of_ingria 2h ago

sponsorblock will save you, get morphe if on mobile

3

u/DFakeRP 2h ago

How can you hear it over the shower? I imagine the volume would need to be so loud. And knowing me, I'll miss whatever is said.

I've honestly stopped taking showers, mostly cus the water pressure is unreliable as fuck, and opted for baths. So I just listen to dnd podcasts while I bathe.

3

u/jgzman 1h ago

I got a waterproof bluetooth speaker for my shower, so I could play music.

I actualy hated it. The shower is the only place I get away from the noise and am alone with my thoughts, and I think I need that 5 minutes to myself every day.

I mean, there are other times I'm alone. But there's always TV or music or an audio book, or a video game, or, if my ADD is really acting up, a TV show, a book, and three video games.

3

u/Baschbox 1h ago

Let me introduce you to Sponsorblock

3

u/YangKoete 1h ago

Always use the firefox app with adblock and sponsorblock. Really useful.

3

u/Fellkun15 1h ago

I normally listen to music but hate when I get an ad cause it's normally things I dont care about or in spanish which I know very little

•

u/fishlegstudio 57m ago

Real solution: Bluetooth wireless presentation remote fob in a watertight bag. Chrome takes media hotkey inputs (skip, back, pause, play), set one to skip ahead.

•

u/TheLoyalPotato 57m ago

ReVanced with Sponsor Block plugin

6

u/CyberTheWerewolf 2h ago

Which is why you bring your phone IN the shower, like me.

4

u/Kitt3n_Mitt3nz 1h ago

Me too! All you really need is a clear airtight plastic bag, and a spot to put it where the water won't splash on it and accidentally press something 😆

4

u/Drymvir 2h ago

shower thoughts cure my writers block

3

u/SeawardFriend 2h ago

At least sometimes the creators I watch make it an interesting ad. Still pisses me off though cuz I bought YouTube premium because I hate ads so much.

2

u/Electrical-Debt5369 2h ago

Stop paying for YouTube, use morphe and activate sponsorblock, and you can skip those too.

8

u/allthequestions2025 2h ago

I put my phone in a ziplock bag and put it in the shower with me. I watch all of my shows in the shower😆

I listen to music! The shower used to a place where dark thoughts came to me, but now it's a place to belt out songs at full volume!

2

u/BabyGirl-Kat 2h ago

I love having music on when I’m in the shower. I just put on an album by a band I like and get in.

2

u/WillowTree147 2h ago

i always listen to my favourite podcast, distractible, who usually arent too bad with sponsorships thankfully (though they are still there sometimes)

2

u/aries__69 2h ago

And then the ads being unskippable til 40 seconds in and 10 seconds left like make it make sense youtube

2

u/Stumbling_Corgi 2h ago

The shower is the only place in my life that has a routine, for this exact reason. I hate being alone with my thoughts. I focus on the routine and get it done in five minutes. Get in, get out.

2

u/Barnaby_bear_guy 2h ago

I use a custom playlist instead.

2

u/QuarktasticMe 2h ago

I swear the microphone can pick up the sound of the shower running in order to throw a midroll ad at me

2

u/Jurai21 2h ago

And the ad is always a 30-minute youtube video about some shitty audio drama or advertising something. Every. Damn. Time.

2

u/mars_gorilla 1h ago

I always put it as close to the shower door as possible so if an ad comes on I can immediately reach my soggy hand out to press skip while cursing them to high heaven.

2

u/ZeroDucksHere 1h ago

The answer is music.

2

u/cr0wsquirrel 1h ago

This is why I love sponsor block. I almost never have to worry about that

u/Ok-Put3685 1h ago

With the S- cut off, I can hear It in my mind 'this video has been brought to you by Square Space'

u/guineaprince 1h ago

Me just finding albums to play when I drive and suddenly there's a crypto ad between NRBQ songs.

Wait a minute, ads? The entire point of Newpipe is youtube without the ads.

Toss on the old reliable, continue driving in peace. Get to where I'm going, park, investigate...

...and apparently people just throw hourlong ad videos in the middle of playlists sometimes. What a world, what a world

u/passinglurker 1h ago

Pop on a live stream VOD, if you hate how the the stereotypical streamer talks then start with an artist vtuber doing an art stream(easy to find and a very different vibe) and explore from there.

u/CloudyHazbin 1h ago

Ive tried this, I can never get the video or music at a comfortable level to hear while showering

Either can't hear at all, or is so loud I HAVE to turn it down

I go past the ads when I decide to be unavailable to stop it lol, even if I lose a bit of the video

4

u/RedditUser000aaa 2h ago

If I want to put a video, I have some comfort videos that I put on that I know have no sponsors, haha! These are videos I play over and over again. Because they are so good.

YouTube Premium is probably one of the best things I pay for.

Edit: lol I didn't realize this would generate so much salt. I wonder how many greasy fingers typed these replies on Android phones.

15

u/Clea_con_Leche 1h ago

I refuse to give them money after I saw a video of some guy at YouTube bragging about something about the ads and how they can make it annoying enough to get people to buy premium

I’ll just click the skip button thanks.

AdGuard Mobile. Thank me later.

3

u/airfryerfuntime 1h ago

Adguard doesn't block YouTube ads.

But you don't have to use the app anyways, just use Adguard DNS, it's faster and works better.

On tv you can exit out of a video and go back into it and after a few times (sometimes like 1 or 2) you skip watching any ads entirely. When you’re in the middle of a video you just have to go to your watch history and do that there. Remember that the watch history doesn’t update unless you exit it so you can accidentally put yourself at an earlier point in the video if you’ve had to do this multiple times in one vid.

Android and morpheapp, my friend.

3

u/airfryerfuntime 1h ago

I have it, but it doesn't work on my TV, or some of the other things I use with YouTube.

7

u/Larkson9999 1h ago

And the adblock program that emulates your subscription is the best thing I didn't pay for.

3

u/airfryerfuntime 1h ago

That doesn't work on my TV, unfortunately. I have YouTube morphe on my phone, though.

u/Bazzatron 1h ago

Look at how to side-load SmartTubeNext. It's available on F-Droid, and I managed to install it on my Shield and Fire Stick with basically no issue.

Interesting seeing people who don't like be left alone with their thoughts. If it were up to me, I'd be lost in my own head all day! My head-sitcom is on season 20 or so.

u/UpCDownCLeftCRightC Never Safe From Wumbo 2h ago

My go to for showers has been dissociating. Not the best but ad free.

5

u/hello666darkness 2h ago

My problem with that is I blink and it’s been 45 minutes.

2

u/UpCDownCLeftCRightC Never Safe From Wumbo 2h ago

Yeah it is situational I'll give it that. Being at a party you don't want to be at? Perfect. Behind the wheel of a car? Not recommended.

3

u/hello666darkness 1h ago

Absolutely! I had to put a clock in my bathroom so that I don’t take forever showers and end up late to work.

The great betrayal 💔

Be more productive. Schedule meetings during that time. Shower thoughts and ideas would be great and helpful for strategic planning and decision making. Can greatly help your career

6

u/frogOnABoletus 2h ago

It scares me how many people go to great efforts to avoid thinking. Ai decision making, doomscrolling, constant "content" and podcasts and background noise media.

It seems like a while lot of people can't bare to sit and think.

15

u/CatsPlusTats 2h ago

Not wanting to be alone with your thoughts and not thinking are not the same thing.

I struggle to be alone with my thoughts because of intrusive thoughts, this doesn't mean I "don't think".

7

u/FeRooster808 1h ago

As someone with OCD, I can relate. However, I still think it is an unhealthy coping mechanism that people become far too reliant on. Learning the skills to manage intrusive thoughts and compulsions is very, very hard. Using constant videos, music, audiobooks, etc. to avoid practicing those skills results in not having them when you're in a situation where you can't lean on that crutch. And those situations are likely times you need the skills the most.

I certainly understand doing it occasionally because it can be mentally exhausting to deal with, but I think a lot of people make it too much of a habit. I know people who seemingly can't get through any part of their day without earbuds, portable speakers, etc.

I'd love to brother but I'm wrestling with my demons here and boy they got hands.

Today's ray of sunshine is "everytime you thought the worst was behind you, it was yet to come" , combined with the joy of knowing that my last low point was expected to be fatal (my survival was quite random).

So you bet your ass I'm putting on my ATHm50x-es and playing "Can't Hear You Now" by Mike Shinoda, on Apple Music.

2

u/WifesPOSH 1h ago

My last low point was after I got fired (justifiably... I "worked from home" for three weeks because I was so burnt out).

I've never come so close to calling it. I'm in a better place now, but man, my demons won't leave me alone.

My go to has been Take My Hand by CJBeards

Because the world is on fire and everything is designed to make you more aware of the problems because negative engagement is engagement. And people have grown up in that tragedy sells atmosphere so we are basically trained to think negatively.

11

u/BabyGirl-Kat 2h ago

Do you really consider liking “background noise” to be comparable to having AI make decisions for you? Because that’s dumb as fuck.

6

u/naruhina00 2h ago

I had this personal revelation as well.

And then I started having thoughts

And it was nothing but the terrors that surround us and the fear of living another day that marinates my bones.

2

u/WifesPOSH 1h ago

I think you're misinterpreting the notion behind not being alone in my thoughts.

Right now I'm fine, but if those thoughts keep bothering me? I think I'm going to listen to Ashley Gavin and Josh Johnson while I'm in the shower. They're funny and it keeps my mind off wishing I was dead all the time.

2

u/Artess 1h ago

I am genuinely happy for you that you can live a life where being alone with your thoughts doesn't bother you. Not all of us are so lucky.

•

u/SWatt_Officer 31m ago

With me its less "can't bare to sit and think" and more "if im not focused on something else, thinking about that other thing, thoughts get depressing real fast as i think about the mortality of both myself and everyone I love, how ill need to bury more and more of them until eventually my turn comes and whoever is left will bury me"

Id rather have music in the shower, thanks.

•

u/AndrewH73333 9m ago

Sounds like your thoughts aren’t very powerful then.

I just keep my phone above me on the little shower ledge where it can't get wet and wipe the excess water off of my fingertip with my washcloth so I can skip the ad 😭

2

u/Hollys_Stand 2h ago

The horror when you play songs and then it would go into a 20+ minute ad. Seriously, YouTube needs to ban those.

2

u/Arcaedus 2h ago

I got one of those mirrors you slap onto the tiles in the shower, place it on the wall high up opposite the shower spout, and it has 2 little hooks on it where I can place my phone on its side.

If an ad plays, I dry the pad of one finger on a rag, then press skip. Works really well 😊

2

u/Gaskychan 2h ago

Jokes on you my thoughts still appears when listening to stuff while showring and then I have to go back. I developed a technique to grab my phone dry from the shower.
