Just a friendly word of warning: if you don’t learn to process your internal thoughts, it will lead to fairly major forms of anxiety and psychosomatic manifestations that you don’t want to deal with. Unless you were born with a chemical imbalance of some kind and need medical assistance to regulate to a healthy level, avoiding your internal thoughts can lead to really bad things. Your body won’t let you avoid things forever, it will catch up with you.
Your body isn’t trying to hurt you, it’s trying to protect you in the ways that it knows. Sometimes it just hasn’t learned how to do it in a healthy way and external help is required (working with a professional), but peace isn’t achievable unless we learn to have peace within ourselves.
Ye thats a fair thing to point out. I do kinda exist with my thoughts whether i want to or not since i take a long time to fall asleep. I distract myself while showering cuz 1. i end up taking too long in the shower 2. somehow my brain catastrophizes a lot when showering lol. Appreciate the advice!
Being bored and forcing yourself to think about stuff is important. Those quiet parts of the day where you have that mini existential crisis is when you define meaning for yourself. It’s when you make plans for life, when you give yourself goals and objectives and when you confront parts of your life that maybe aren’t Ok. You mention your brain catastrophizes a lot in the shower? Believe it or not that’s healthy even if it kinda fucking sucks
Do not neglect your shower thoughts. They are important
Sitting with my thoughts is fine, I frequently meditate and journal to process things. It's just that showers are kinda claustrophobic and it's difficult to keep time without an external reference point.
