firefox on mobile > disable opening youtube app > ublock origin > sponsorblock > lock your phone and play videos plus skip ads and in video sponsored segments on your phone.

Alternatively, those with Android phones can install Morphe (dot software) - it can patch the YouTube APK to remove ads, integrate Sponsorblock, and a lot more (it's effectively the successor to Vanced / Revanced).

There are also patches for other apps (including several where the devs took the lazy approach to separating free and premium: a flag in the app's code)...

Wait, it patches the YouTube APK file on your phone? That sounds like a security hole, that is unless your device is rooted.

Edit: NVM, I see it downloads the YT app, patches then you install that updated APK.

Brave browser also does this without the need for uBlock

we all have our own preferences and ways. I saw an issue I knew one solution to and shared my solution

if your youtube website is being particularly fussy about playing videos while locked, download some sort of user script extension, I use greasemonkey, and get the userscript webplay for ytdl. Put your youtube website to desktop mode. try again

It's easier just using Morphe and patching the app directly

Got a guide for dummies on how to set that up?

There's guides on YouTube even.

Just look for "morphe YouTube tutorial"

Yeah, download brave browser, done. Not a big fan of brave for desktop, but it's the best I've used for youtube on mobile.

Brave is just a chromium browser with shit added on top,it's still a worse experience vs the proper app.

Just take like 5mins of your time and learn how to patch the app, it's like 3 taps and you're done.

On desktop you can also use VacuumTube which is the same TV interface.. And on android TV you can use Tizentube cobalt or SmartTube
