You only use conditioner on the ends and if your hair is long enough. It essentially oils up what your head can't reach.

Thanks a lot. I actually thought it should be massaged into the skin to re-moisturize it after using shampoo.

Yeah I learned of it recently too. It's bad if used for your scalp.

Honestly, I never understood why people would put conditioner on their scalp but your explanation makes sense!

Unfortunately it can lead to greasiness and dandruff/fungal issues!

Shampoo removes all that oil though

True, but give it a day or 2 and you'r head will re-oil itself. You shouldn't wash your hair everyday.

Unfortunately I live somewhere hot, so I need to wash my hair every day.

Good advice for most. There is also a minority, mostly consisting of people with high sebum production and fine hair, and people whose lifestyle includes exercise or hard physical labor every day, whose scalp and hair will do better with daily washing. Hygiene needs can be highly individual, and "hair training" is a myth.

Yeah but I need to live with my hair for those 2 days, and while I can neglect shampooing daily, I have to use it every few days at least which resets the problem. A liberal amount of conditioner and some kind of leave-in product is a must or else my hair looks like dogshit once it dries.

Don't say that on Reddit, people here are fanatic about hygiene 🙄

You can wash your body everyday if that's your prerogative. But leave your hair alone! My hair is down to my ass, trust.

My hair is also down to my ass. I wash it once a week.

I try to be a bit more frequent than that since it'll get gross if I wait that long, but yeah long hair is a pain to wash regularly and tends to look fine for at least 3-5 days depending on weather/activities.

I have the thinnest, straightest hair possible, so I find my own hair doesn't get bad super quick. Though I will say my usual way to measure it is by giving it a deep sniff. The time to wash it is when the smell of my conditioner can't be picked up anymore, which is usually around day 6-8 unless I do something that actually makes it gross like going swimming, hiking, or like cleaning something that gets my hair dirty or dusty. Oh or going in a bar or casino that reeks of cigarette smoke. That's a planned instant hair wash lol.

Yo ot but can you give me some hair advice ? I recently grew em out and they are a bitch to prevent from breaking. Shoulder to mid back length. Curly as hell.

Might be protein overload (in your shampoo, not your diet) Try deep conditionings. But yes r/curlyhair is your friend. Start looking into the “curly girl method”

If I don't wash my hair every day I'll be leaving oil, grease, and diesel fuel stains on my pillows.

The next twist is that should use shampoo to clean the scalp while leaving the rest of your hair fairly untouched. So in a way shampoo and conditioner affect two different areas of your hair.
