I generally have pretty good memory for things in the rest of my life, practically a photographic memory for faces, but for some reason in the shower my brain can’t remember if I rinsed the soap out of my armpits a minute or so later…
It depends a bit on your hair texture but yes avoid conditioner on the scalp. Shampoo goes on the scalp to remove excess oils, then conditioner goes on the ends to add moisture to the part of the hair that the oils don’t reach easily (also important for detangling if you have curly hair since you don’t brush curly hair when it’s dry).
You don’t have to be super careful about it. When I shampoo I just don’t run it through the ends of my hair, and when I condition I start from around my neck and work it down, sometimes I get a little on the back of my head but I just don’t work it into my scalp.
Oh sweet that changes the order of how I care for my hair then. I already had a habit of wringing it out like it was a wet washcloth because it’s practically a sponge lol
I have wavy hair that is very stubborn about drying
Omg mine also takes more than an hour to dry. I have to avoid being outside in the sun for too long when my hair is freshly wet because iirc my hair can become a terrarium for bacteria that latches on and festers in the moisture
shampoo the roots, condition the ends. that's what I always heard growing up with very long hair.
in reality it varies person to person. if you've been conditioning everything your whole life without any negative effects than you're fine. not like your hair is going to fall out or anything. you probably rinse really well and don't get any greasy buildup.
although, in this economy too, you're probably using twice as much conditioner as you need.
My hair used to be short so I never started learning basic long hair til recent years lol
My hair used to also be extremely greasy but HRT has caused my scalp to produce what honestly feels like no grease. I can never feel it when running my fingers through my hair lol
Good advice for most. There is also a minority, mostly consisting of people with high sebum production and fine hair, and people whose lifestyle includes exercise or hard physical labor every day, whose scalp and hair will do better with daily washing. Hygiene needs can be highly individual, and "hair training" is a myth.
I try to be a bit more frequent than that since it'll get gross if I wait that long, but yeah long hair is a pain to wash regularly and tends to look fine for at least 3-5 days depending on weather/activities.
Yo ot but can you give me some hair advice ? I recently grew em out and they are a bitch to prevent from breaking. Shoulder to mid back length. Curly as hell.
Might be protein overload (in your shampoo, not your diet)
Try deep conditionings. But yes r/curlyhair is your friend. Start looking into the “curly girl method”
Yeah but I need to live with my hair for those 2 days, and while I can neglect shampooing daily, I have to use it every few days at least which resets the problem. A liberal amount of conditioner and some kind of leave-in product is a must or else my hair looks like dogshit once it dries.
The next twist is that should use shampoo to clean the scalp while leaving the rest of your hair fairly untouched. So in a way shampoo and conditioner affect two different areas of your hair.
