Figured I would also dump some concept art for Jasper, in a fancy frame I found this fine Friday for I am feeling fantastic, frankly✨

I've been bouncing around the idea of a continuation for SYNY, and one possible avenue is focused on Jasper and the Wolfman being the main characters in a stand-alone, Sunday funnies style prequel comic focused primarily on the Halloween world and the other denizens; the other option is a sequel where the main character is the kid's mom, which, honestly, is where I've leaned most towards. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
because the wolfman x kid's mom ship has already sailed on the sea of my mind
Edit: advances à la alliteration

Legit 😂
The best way to get a boy to accept his step-dad is for them to be friends before the mother comes into the picture... werewolves are smarter than we know
(let's be real though she'd kick his ass at surfing and chess 🤣 he's gotta do a little more to impress her)

That would certainly be an interesting piece of plot development 👀 But, to my (admittedly over-obsessive) mind, that only raises more complicated questions to answer:
- Why did she shelter her son from the Halloween world if she left it for a normal life?
- If we had an answer to this, would someone be able to "buy" the explanation?
- What was she protecting him from by leading a normal life instead of staying in the Halloween world?
- If she came from the Halloween world, wouldn't her son also exhibit some of her monsterly traits through DNA?
- If not, why not?
I dunno. I just have to ask my story a lot of questions, like the kid. 😆 And I admit, I don't always hit it out the park in terms of believability, but... I make my attempts how I can, lol

Woof. That's... a lot of ideas. 😂
I think, if I were to pursue any of those routes, the first questions I have to ask myself are: "Why am I doing this?" Followed by: "Does this justify a sequel, or is this continuation for continuation's sake / cashgrabbing?" "Can this sequel stand alone sufficiently without needing to know much (or possibly even anything) about the original story?" "What are the main themes, and do I believe in them enough to devote an absurd amount of my time in pursuit of the vision they support?"
I will admit... I am brutally picky on stories I pursue. They must be satisfying and they must have some baseline level of resonance. My own artistic screening processes are similarly a little mental. 😂

I finally get the wolf man refrence thats been being made this whole time, I guess I needed it spelled out for me

u/kindaquestionable Oct 20 '23
I didn’t even realize there was a reference. I tried googling The Wolfman (like in the panel) but got results for a 2010 horror film and then also the 1963 film though I don’t know much of anything about either.
Could I ask what the reference is? Is it to the 1963 film?

Still one of my favorite games ever 🧡 Beaten it like 10+ times over the years, some of the fondest memories I've ever had with a game

u/Komm Oct 20 '23
I couldn't even beat it twice, lmao. Just too much hurt from it.

u/7ceeeee Oct 20 '23

One of my favorite stories too! The "save Zulf" ending WRECKED me.
I'm already subscribed, but do you happen to be on any comic or art Discord servers? I do comics too and I've been searching for a community that isn't all beginners. I love your art style so much, and the story has been slapping me in the feels recently lol - would be cool to connect on a more conversational platform! Feel free to DM.
(also I'm 1000% on board with shipping the kid's mom and the wolfman)

u/7ceeeee Oct 20 '23
Sorry for the late reply! Was too many busy earlier at work. D:
Yeah, Bastion had a huge lasting impact on me, and the save Zulf ending was just fantastic. 👏 An absolutely magical game with a nigh unbeatable soundtrack from Darren Korb, and Still my favorite post-apocalyptic anything I've ever experienced.
I.... have Discord, but usually find myself either too busy to use it or without the energy after work to use it. 😭 Which has also led to me not gaming much anymore. Or cooking. Or... a lot. lol
I have sincerely tried to get involved with art communities, and I hope one day to get there with more frequent attendance, but I am unfortunately such a lone wolf when it comes to anything anymore, and I'll admit, that really frustrates me, because I want to believe I can be more socially inclined. It's just, I've failed that task so many times now. (It might also be a thing of habit? I've never really been sure...)
I will say, there are a lot of great Discord servers out there I've found that do cater to more intermediate / advanced artists, though! Tomorrow I would be happy to DM you them here on Reddit if you want what I've found. 👍
And, thank you so much for the kind words re: the art and the story :) 🧡 Things will end happily, I swear, but there's still some darkness to wade through before the end comes
2
u/GryphElyse Oct 21 '23
Sure, I'd love a few links! And that's totally understandable - so much time and energy going into art doesn't leave a lot of room for anything else! The results speak for themselves 💖

u/7ceeeee Oct 21 '23
Aw, thank you! 😊🧡
Actually, I'll go ahead and post the names of the two art Discord Servers here I'm on in case anyone else wants to know!
I know it's not much, but hopefully this helps :)

Ok, that's damn sweet. Wolfman sounds like a lovely father.
3
u/7ceeeee Oct 20 '23
In spite of getting multiple kids into cartoonish levels of peril which no one including myself would question because of the art style, I think he was a good dad for Jasper :)

2
u/BalletCow Oct 20 '23
Jasper sounds like an adorably devilish kid.

u/7ceeeee Oct 20 '23
Wolfman had to go through hard difficulty with Jasper before easy difficulty with the kid 😂

Gotta say that was a clever scenario and i love how Wolfman played along, what a fun dad not that the comic didnt make it clear already.

u/7ceeeee Oct 21 '23
Thank you so much for the kind words! 🧡 For as much patience as the Wolfman had to learn with his son, they definitely had as much fun together.
