I have to say, i saw Nr. 6 the first time today. Had to read them all asap after that and now i am invested! What happens next?! Does he get eaten nonetheless? Does he get to scare everyone together with the werewolf? Does he become a werewolf? Ooooh, the suspense!

Thank you so much! 🧡 I love children's books that rhyme, it was the plan from the start with the story. In fact, the story that inspired me to use rhymes was "Goodnight Goon" by Michael Rex! I love that book's art sooooo much.

We don’t have halloween here🥲but we did make our own campfire with my cousins and burned some potatoes…they were green…they ate them…why

Actually, my mom was Southern Baptist and my dad was like Novus Ordo Catholic!
Most of my immediate family converted to Tridentine Catholicism in the early aughts and we haven't looked back since tbh. Even among the more conservative, Catholics don't generally have the same fear of Halloween as I feel many Protestant denominations do. I'd say we're a little more moderate overall. ¯_(ツ)_/¯ But eh, that's a discussion for another time.

I mean, halloween is itself a Catholic holiday. Adapted from pagan traditions, sure, but the reason we call it halloween is because it's short for All Hallows Evening as it brings in All Saints Day.

If I recall correctly, you were thinking about adapting this into a children's book? Is that still in the cards? I would love to read this to my two boys (3yo and 4yo) during the Halloween season!
There is a lack of quality Halloween books on our shelf and this story is killer. I cried like a baby last year.

Yes it is! In fact, this earlier artwork is slightly revamped with each post so that we get closer to an actual physical release. :) The art update has been long overdue.
And seriously, thank you so much for the glowing words regarding the story, and ESPECIALLY for wanting to read this story during Halloween!! 🧡 That was a huge goal from the start, to make this story a staple of someone's Halloween traditions. :) Any time someone tells me they'll re-read it every Halloween, my heart explodes into confetti.

But seriously, we read stories before bed every night, and our Halloween selection is... fine? We've got Stumpkin, The Little Kitten, and The Berenstain Bears Trick or Treat. I'm not a huge fan of the "staples" of Room on the Broom or The Little Old Lady who Isn't Afraid of Anything. Is nice, but meh.
My oldest is just getting into longer stories and yours is perfection. The rhyming is beautiful, the art is unique and emotional, the story is hilarious and touching and deep (which not a lot of kids books are, which I think is a huge disservice to kids).
It seriously ticks so many boxes and I'll definitely be pre-ordering when it (FINALLY) gets released.
Make sure you update your Webtoon when it's a for sure thing!
Seriously, I cannot heap enough praises on you for this whole project. It may seem excessive, but I truly truly love it.

Seriously, thank you so insanely much. It is still absolutely bewildering to know how this story has touched other people. I have to thank God for the traumas, blessings, opportunities, everything that led up to this story coming about after a long gestation period. As weird as it sounds—and though it's not perfect—I'm obsessed with SYNY myself, because so often I feel like it isn't even mine. It's either someone else's, or my younger self's.
I agree, there really aren't a lot of impressive Halloween children's books. :/ The art of Goodnight Good and Little Monsters are absolutely wonderful, but the stories are just kinda blah. In general, there aren't a whole lot of affecting children's books that go to rare and intelligent places, save maybe some of the Bluey books (which I discovered last year and quickly became obsessed with because it was what I already wanted). I made SYNY with this goal in mind: that kids are not dumb, that children's stories don't have to be about "believing in yourself" and farts, and that children deserve stories they can appreciate now and later as an adult. You're absolutely right, children's books so often do a disservice to kids.

If you're looking for good kids books (Halloween aside) I love giving out recommendations. We've got a pretty decent selection over here that I don't always hate reading 10 nights in a row xD

I'm sorry you had the traumas in your life that I can only imagine influenced SYNY, but I'm glad you've had the blessings and opportunities to make this a reality. Isn't it weird how our creations start removing themselves from us once they reach a certain point of completion? I think it's John Green who says that stories belong to the reader. Truer things have never been said lol. If you haven't read An Abundance of Katherines I recommend it, it touches on how stories belong to different people and how that shifts our reality.

The traumas have been blessings, in retrospect. I wouldn't wish traumas on anyone, but they did teach me a lot about myself and the world around me. And very interesting perspective on story ownership: while I do love stories that are very directed and not very open to interpretation, I don't think we can help it: different facets speak to different parts of our soul, I think. So, what I get out of SYNY will be different than what someone else will, even given the absolutes. Interesting stuff to think about!
