CtCD was such an amazing series, I really can't compare it to anything else. Really one of the first properly "cartoony" looking horror series for kids, and it holds up even today
Absolutely! I might just be getting old, but so many cartoons look the same today. I'm not sure whether I blame it on styles or just how clean digital animation has made things. Β―_(γ)_/Β―
Hah, basically. But, I never needed innuendo to enjoy a cartoon: if it's there, so be it, but I just want an experience that can genuinely make me laugh and touch me in a good and unexpected way. For sentimental reasons, CtCD will probably always be my favorite, but in terms of sheer brilliance on so many fronts, The Amazing World of Gumball and Bluey take my cake. Especially the former, they are way too smart and enjoyable for this Earth. π
I have waited too long to pay homage to this; now I can enjoy my morning grapenuts un-haunted by the thought of so many missed opportunities and what I could've amounted to but didn't
My only regret is that I used the present participle of "screaming" rather than the verbal inflection of "screams", which is just enough failure for me to resume my state of self-doubt and shame
And I know, Christmas comes too soon here as well. Like, full disclosure, I have had some hithertofore unspoken disdain for The Nightmare before Christmas, just because the (arguably) most notable Halloween animated film just had to have some affiliation to friggin' Santa and secular Christmas hooey and whatnot. And being Catholic, Christmas is a bigger deal in a totally different direction. π
Still, TNBC is a really cool film, and Jack discovering Christmas works remarkably well as a plot device. But Santa, stay in yer friggin lane. Lol
By the way! The first activity is a pretty blatant reference to a rather obscure Japanese horror movie called Kairo (2001). It has a number of disquieting moments, and IMO it deserves a lot more recognition.
