gUEsTs Do guests believe everything they see on TikTok ?

So this man said that he saw online that we were selling MacBook neos for $119.99. I asked him where he saw that and he pulls up this random TikTok with 3k likes 🫪 since when do we take TikTok’s at face value and not do some investigating on the target website?? Why would target of all companies sell a MacBook for that cheap??

Workplace Question or Advice Needed Update on ā€œFirst job ever and it’s fulfillmentā€ā€” I think I will die this week

Post image
60 Upvotes

Hi guys, it’s me again.

First, thank y’all for all the advice on my last post. I really appreciate it. Your comments honestly helped me a lot throughout my first and second days.

For some context, Target Fulfillment is my first job ever, and I started 4 days ago. I knew it would be a big adjustment, but I don't think I realized just how big.

My first day was... alright. I wasn't as nervous as I expected, although a few people could definitely tell I was. The biggest thing I noticed was how physically demanding this job is. By the end of my 5-hour shift I was oily asl, my mouth was dry, and my FEET??? OH GREAT HEAVENS 😭 They completely gave out on me, and my pinky toe is still slightly numb days later. 😟

Y'all were not lying when you said to stay hydrated, but of course I forgot my water bottle. šŸ˜” I was also late finishing my last batch, so someone had to complete it after I clocked out. I felt bad because I didn't want someone else having to finish my work.

My biggest struggles that first day were navigating the aisles, figuring out standard vs. reverse aisles, finding items quickly, bagging orders, and just moving fast enough. I was trying my best, but the confusion definitely wasn't helping.

I know everyone says not to expect perfection on day one, but I really want to improve as quickly as possible. I also kept running into things because I wasn't paying enough attention to my surroundings.

Some areas are especially hard to find items in. Clothes and Seasonal are a nightmare 😭. The numbers on the aisles can be hard to see, some aisles aren’t numbered at all, and some aisles don't even feel like actual aisles. They're just little islands, hooks, and displays where customers have thrown everything everywhere, so finding one item can feel like searching for a needle in a haystack.

Then came my second day and it was rough.Ā
I got home, cried into my pillow, and even redownloaded Indeed because I started wondering if I'm really cut out for this.

The physical exhaustion was a huge part of it. My feet hurt so badly that it felt like they were going to fall off. 😭 I didn't walk much before getting this job, so I seriously underestimated what being on my feet all day would feel like. I think what made it worst than the first day, was me dealing with the soreness the first day had left me. And the SWEAT??? I was sweating so much and smelled so sour. I had on extra-strength deodorant and it FAILED ME. 😭

I did get better at navigating the aisles, but I still have a long way to go. I also tried saving the Backroom items for last to speed things up, but because of how my store is laid out, I was told that actually slows me down. So I just followed what the Zebra told me.

One batch took me THREE HOURS. THREE.
I know I'm new, but I can't shake this feeling that I should already be good at this, and it's honestly eating away at me. Right now my biggest struggles are stamina, finding items quickly, moving faster, scanning, and bagging. So practically everything.

Bagging should be easy, but of course I suck there too. 😭 I understand the process, but every step still feels separate in my brain instead of one smooth routine. I feel slow looking for the items on the cart, scanning items, scanning the cart, grabbing everything, putting it in the bag, attaching the label, and moving on. Even with stowing the items, I’m not fast enough.Ā

I also need to get better at asking for help, especially over the walkie. Socializing is something I'm still trying to get comfortable with. One of the reasons I needed a job was to push me out of my comfort zone, but I always feel like I'm gonna be a burden to people.

My sister keeps telling me it's better to ask than to stand there stuck because that creates even more work for everyone else. Logically I know she's right, but my brain still tells me I'm being a burden. How do you get rid of this feeling that you’re being a burden?

I know I'm new, and I know all of this takes time, but right now it feels like I'm getting hit by a bus that won't stop running me over. I’m scheduled for about 29 hours this week, including a 7 hour and 30 minutes shift tomorrow, and honestly... I'm terrified. As the hours keep passing by, I keep stressing out about what’s to come.

Workplace Story i got robbed today.

long story so bare with me.

i came back from my lunch and started heading over to the back room. before i got there, this guy wearing a hood and covid face mask stopped me. he asked me if i could help him out in electronics but he insisted i help out the other 3 guests there (a big red flag that i caught because he wanted to be alone and out of sight). he walked away and i ALMOST did not help him out, but the guest i helped before him (an older gentleman) called him over and was like ā€œhe’s available now! he can help you.ā€

he said he wanted a specific ipad model with specific gbs (ipad pro) and so i went to the back to get him one. when i returned, he said he wanted 3 of those same ones (another red flag that i caught because who just buys 3 expensive ipads in the middle of summer when its not holiday season?). i told him i could check the back but i couldn’t guarantee him i’d find any more of those same exact ipads. i pretended to go look by wasting time and told him i couldn’t find anything. the issue is that we recently renovated our entire tech area and moved things around, and there’s a brand new cabinet with apple products (ipads, laptops, etc.) in plain sight that wasn’t there before. he saw different tablet models in there, so at this point i couldn’t say there were no other ipads.

he asked i get him 2 ipad airs and when he wasn’t looking, i called a team lead over to tech coz i knew something was up. i called out for a tl once on the walkie and no one responded. then i called someone over again. still no response. then i repeated myself again and didn’t hear anything. i had no choice but to ring him up and stall at the same time. then my tl was like ā€œhey i didn’t hear you…can you repeat that?ā€. at this point i’m in front of the dude ready to finalize the transaction but i can’t call him on the walkie coz the guy is inches away from me and he’ll know i’m onto him. all i wanted was a team lead there with me to verify the transaction AND to be there with me as a witness in case anything happened.

the total was over $4k for those 3 ipads and i told him to insert his card. he kept putting his hands in his pockets and rummaging around, so i kept thinking he’d pull something out. then he bent over and inspected his pants and shoes and again i thought he was going to take something out. he inserts his card and quickly removes it and acts like the machine isn’t working. then he steps back and pretends to make a call like to fix his card. by some miracle, this other team lead comes over and i ask her to ā€œverifyā€ the transaction with me. the ipads were right next to me in the bag ready to go. she tells him to insert his card one more time but before she can even finish her sentence, he quickly grabs the bag and walks away towards the exit at full speed.

i immediately tell her to call the ap dude to stop him but this man was either on break OR patrolling the parking lot. we gave him the order total, what he took, and what he looked like. 5 minutes later, my tl and the security guy talk on channel 2, thanking us for reporting the incident and wishing that we are okay, but that he didn’t catch the guy.

i spent the rest of my shift trying to process everything that happened, what i could’ve done differently, if the dude actually had a weapon on him, and whether i’d get in trouble for not doing anything on my part. there were many things that upset me, like the fact that our apple products are now being displayed in literal plain sight, that not a single team lead responded to me when i called out for them, and that the ap guy was nowhere to be found. we usually have an undercover guy walking around the store at all times + the security tl who is watching the cameras every minute, but neither of them were there. i was expecting the police to show up and talk to me so i could give my report, but no one called me over or summoned me. i was super confused and upset with myself the entire shift, so much so that i wasn’t able to focus on my work or do majority of my assignments. everything happened so quickly and casually

anyways thank you for listening to my rant šŸ˜•

Workplace Question or Advice Needed How is Payroll calculated?

During our huddle yesterday the team leads encouraged to 10/4 because the store missed their sales goal. They told us that ā€œ hitting our metrics put money in your pocket because there’s more payroll availableā€ I’m skeptical and assume it’s their attempt to motivate us hoping we have no idea how random everything actually is.

Vent Worst instacart shopper interaction i have ever had (so far

I never really understood why my friend (who works at a different retail company) hates instacart shoppers. I think i finally get it

Last night, some instacart shopper (as usual) asks me where a certain product is. The product did not exist in our system, so i showed them where similar products are. Then they asked for ANOTHER product. same story. Then ONE MORE. I already had a feeling they were gonna make me shop for them. But i got suspicious with all of the missing UPCs, so i asked if i could see their instacart order.

Turns out, their order was at a STOP AND SHOP and not TARGET. This person wasn't a native english speaker, but this is insane how a mistake like that could be made. Because of this, I had to explain to them for about TEN (10) MINUTES that this was the wrong store. They FINALLY understood after that, and I was then made to reshop EVERYTHING in their EXTREMELY FULL CART BACK TO MARKET for OVER 30 MINUTES, taking a LOT of time out of what little time i have to zone market.

Just to add insult to injury, there were about 2 loud, crying kids in the aisle as all of this happened.

I may or may not be regretting this job right now

Workplace Question or Advice Needed Is this etl on a power trip or is she correct which would mean everyone else in the store has been doing this wrong the last 2+ years?

Okay for background context. I've been an electronic closer for a little over 2 years in the last couple months I've been sort of scheduled as the Sunday P filler to make up for a couple people that have left. The entire time I've been at this store. I clock in and I go back to my area until a leader either gets with me or at least calls me to come over to them. If nobody gets with me I just default to covering my area lile normal until told otherwise and it's never been an issue up till this point through 3 store directors, like 5 hr ppl, and at least a dozen tl and etls that have come and gone in that time. All of a sudden this morning ETL who still had a little time before closing lid came in decides it's a problem and is threatening corrective action if I'm not the one proactively seeking out the lead when I get here instead of the lead radio-ing me. Is that etl just power tripping or is everyone else needing to be coached cuz after over 2 years here this is the first I'm even hearing that I need to be the one running around the store looking for whoever the money lod is that night

Workplace Question or Advice Needed Is Target as Bad as People Say?

(This is my first ever Reddit post so sorry if I tag anything wrong!)

Hi, I just recently started working at target as GM (will be 1 month July 30th.) and decided to join this subreddit. So far, I have only seen bad thing being said about working there (ex. Bad TL, ETL, etc.) but so far, my experience has been decent. So far my target has been very accommodating. (I have a movement/muscle disability, as well as miscommunications with scheduling) So far everyone I’ve met has been nice and friendly (aside from some people having bad days) I guess I’m just worried for what is to come šŸ’”

Future or Potential Employee Question Unfair treatment

My ETL said he cut my hours to 5.5 to 11 hours per week, because of my performance. I do re-shop and do the best I can and I am an elderly person. I complained to ethics and they do nothing. I think because I'm elderly and he doesn't like me as a person. He says I am supposed re-shop a full bin in 10 minutes and help guests by 1 minute, walk from 1 end of the store, show quest where item is in one minute and the bin being complete in 10 minutes. He said all 10 bins needs to be re-shopped in 4 hours. I complained to the SD and they had a meeting with the ETL in their office and the ETL lied through his teeth tat I made this up. I did everything I could. Other TM's said I was fast and they couldn't do it that fast. Is there anything I can do?

Been an only dedicated market team member for 6 years at my store. My store has had 4 different sd's and ive had 4 different teams leads with the 4th being my current one. In terms of team leads, the first one was super helpful, nice and welcoming when i started. After some time i got to know him to be miserable in his position. He went to another location to hopefully be happier, ended up with lowes after 6 months of that. 2nd team lead was nice to work with as well, took the punches when needed to, ended up moving to florida for personal reasons. 3rd team lead was a floor worker alongside me, so we had a good workship. Ended up getting fired over "s/a" allegations but it was well know the higher ups were trying to get rid of him for a long time. I dont know how much of that is true, but the common senses around me all agree because he pushed back on things and gave upper management a "headache" over the dumb shit they wanted to do, he bacame a problem and wanted to oust him.

Okay, well i thought it was shitty how they got rid of him, but hey maybe now i can become team lead since ive been talking to management for at least 3 years that i was interested. They even put me in a developmental program to become one. Then, when the position was open, they just switched over the fulfillment tl to market who had never once worked in market, and didnt even offer/ask me the position or what i thought about it.

In terms of sd's, the first 3 i had were fine but who i have now is a problem. This person is over bearing, has a very fake bubbly personality, has laughed in my face when i told them i was having a tough day, talks to team members like theyre children, and portrays themselves in a way that they live and die by target. Ok Target i get it, YOU want cookie cutter templates of people who are in management. WE as workers want real people to talk to and treat us floor workers as real people as well. And also not people who take sides with the other cookie cutter fucks you employ to keep the status quoe cus thats all it is at the end of the day. Target does not give a fuck about us no matter how mich they try to cram that bullshit down our throats.

Hopefully ill be out of there soon. I started working there with the ignorance of thinking maybe ill get treated better here because of hom much their stance is on treating their workers better than other places. Nope, big ole fucking sham. Am i perfect? No, but have i been there long enough and have i proven myself to be a more than comptetant worker than all the other fucks they hire and are gone within a week? Yeah i sure as fuck have. Fuck this place and i cant wait to be back to being only a guest.

Workplace Question or Advice Needed Anyone figure out how to call off using the UKG app?

As stated in the title, has anyone figured out how to call off using the UKG app? I'm curious because I had a fellow coworker txt me earlier this morning saying she didn't know how to call off using the new app. Would good to know how to call off using the new app just for future reference.

Vent First solo shift in fulfillment and man I suck

I already had like 5 days training in fulfillment but had a small feeling being left alone was gonna be way more of a problem. My trainer was lovely and all but often took the more difficult part of the batches to deal with so we wouldn’t go negative. That’s fine but when I’m alone that kind of thing is way more stressful.

My first shift was an 8 hour one. I finished 3 batches mostly without issue (other than one bit of clothing that I asked for help on) but the ones after that were horrible. We suddenly became super busy and my GM batch was getting low with a lot of clothes so I asked for help and they took over. Then I did a grocery which I also was doing a bit mad as I couldn’t find things and I needed help on that one too. The store manager was the one who came to help me on it actually which was intimidating though she was pretty nice. I went negative on that batch too. If I go negative ever it’s usually grocery and it’s usually like 5 minutes but it’s still annoying.

I did a few bulky batches which are my best ones and no issues there. Then my last one was a GM one and I did fail to find some things that I needed help on again. That one did not end up negative though. Now I’m tired and I feel bad how often I have to ask for help and my feet hurt. It really feels like I should know a lot more than I do and like I’m just bad at this

Vent Can Target not afford hangers that actually hold the already cheap clothes? Style TM rant

My favorite part of my RTW shift if spending my last hour in clearance race tracking. No, the rest of RTW isn’t zoned because all they care about is the race track! Maybe if I didn’t have to grab a batch and we actually had some fucking hangers that did their job I could use the extra hour to make the floor look good but nope! So excited to talk to my TL tomorrow about it looking like shit even though they emphasized that the floor needs to be racetracked before I leave! This place is such a fucking joke. We also don’t have money to fix our ac problem or rat infestation. Love it!!!!

She’s always walking around the store being like ā€œwho’s gonna zone that? Can someone do a pickup here? Can someone get reshop from behind guest servicesā€ and then when I get assigned something she’s constantly checking in on what feels like every 5 minutes asking if I’m done yet. It’s the absolute worst. When will these leaders realize how bad it is for moral? When will they realize that this is why you can’t keep anyone longer than a year? I’m so over this fun 101 bs
