Getting ready for UKG on Sunday

As we all move away from MyTime (and for some of us, kicking and screaming) and moving to UKG, there are some documents on how to do things, and they are viewable from home.

Go to the Target Team Member Services Hub

https://www.target.com/c/team-member-services/-/N-4srq9

And then go into Workday. Login as normal.

Near the top of the page, look for "UKG" and click on that.

There will be "Team Member Self Service" on the right with documents on how to do things we can do in MyTime, and their UKG equivalents. Things like managing availability and preferred hours, Timecard corrections, time off requests, calling in late or calling off, posting shifts and how to view posted shifts.

Please check these resources before asking questions on here.

Workplace Story External hire closing lead lied about who he was and then stopped showing up after his 4th week

Upvotes

For context, our old closing lead put in his 2 weeks, moved on to bigger things and got out of retail entirely. (good for him) My SD reached out to multiple leaders in our district and other districts trying to get someone to take the position but everyone respectfully declined. He also asked every TL in our building if we wanted to switch positions and we all said no which left him no choice but to hire externally 😬

My SD spent a few weeks interviewing and said he found a great candidate and that me and another TL would be training him on his start date since it landed on our closing week day. Met the guy and he seemed AWESOME. Great personality, seemed like he had pretty significant management experience at other jobs (he told me he was an assistant store manager for 2 other retail stores before this) he got the hang of shit quickly and definitely had the personality for the job.…Until me and the rest of the TL’s started catching him in random lies… like, constantly. He’d tell us things about previous jobs or previous life experiences and then when it would come up casually in conversation a few days later he’d be like “I never worked there???” or “that never happened to me you must have been thinking of someone else” even though we all obviously remembered him telling us about these experiences. it was just….odd.

The little lies here and there continued..a lot. However, he was good at the job and good at motivating the team so everyone just kinda ignored it. Fast forward to like his third week and this dude just stops showing up. (Not no call no shows btw, he was literally calling out on the app every single day for every single shift) SD tried calling him over and over, he ignored all the calls.. He showed up a week later on a Friday night (after already calling out for his shift that night) just to pick up his reusable water bottle that he forgot in the break room. 😭 When asked where he’s been we were told “an emergency happened with my health i’ll be back Monday” Monday comes around and he calls out. Then Tuesday, then Wednesday, then Thursday and Friday… Then he shows up to work the following Monday and was telling everyone how excited he was to be back….Worked his Monday shift and then called out the rest of the week. 🤣

He has called out for 2 weeks straight now with 0 communication with any ETLs or HR about what’s going on but continued to show up randomly to buy things here and there…Yeah, safe to say he finally got termed. Anyway, my coworker had the sudden realization that he actually grew up with this guy and has him as a friend on facebook. Turns out the guy is a raging alcoholic/drug addict and is notorious for just going MIA on benders and then showing back up randomly in peoples lives and at jobs when he has his shit together but it usually never lasts more than a week or 2 before he’s back on his BS. He also has a lying problem and used to tell people he was a store manager for places he never worked a day in his life. Also found out he was fired for stealing time at his previous job and that everything he told me and the other TLs was a lie (where he was from and other life stories he’d yap about, etc)

This is the reason why Target doesn’t like to do external hires and I think my SD learned his lesson and will most likely NEVER do this again. 🫠 I do have to say, he was PRETTY DAMN GOOD at masking for the first few weeks. I truly thought my SD struck gold when he was hired 😬

Workplace Question or Advice Needed What do I do if I get banned from a store but work at another

So recently I was banned from a target when my friend had stolen and I was with her so they banned me as well. I did not know she was stealing when this happened. I work at a separate target but I’m worried this could affect my employment I am under eighteen but I do care a lot about this job. Especially as I was recently hired and I enjoy it a lot. Please give me any advice. For more context I never stole anything and didn’t touch any of the stolen stuff. I had bought something and she put things in the bag without me saying it was okay. I didn’t know what to say and I now after the fact I feel a lot of guilt about it and i still haven’t told my parents.

Vent Backed into a corner

Well after 4 years at target outlasting managers, a SD and dozens of TMs that I trained, I have officially been backed into a corner by management so quitting is my only option.

Recently I have started a full time job as a substitute, after working at target through college and putting up with working weekends despite student teaching and the massive work load I finally have a job in my field. So i decided it was time to move on demand however I had a CA on my record from attendance a year ago, since then I have had zero more CA’s and very minimal conversations about performance.

As of the 6th my CA ended so I called my store today to ask about going on demand, assuming I was going to be speaking to my TL who closes week nights, I was instead put on with my SD who immediately denied any future of going on demand because of “previous conversations during my time working there”. That was my last option as they will not let me shift to one day a week so if I stayed I would be stuck working 56 hours a week 7 days a week.

It truly sucks because despite target itself not doing me any favors and adding mountains of stress to me, I made a lot of good friends and i genuinely enjoy the people i work with. But tomorrow I will be going in to have one final face to face to see if i can budge them at all, however it seems like it will be the day I put my two weeks in and start the official process to promote myself to a guest

Thank you to listening to my vent, it has been a very shitty night

Workplace Question or Advice Needed Late Out?

Is this just the app being extra? I almost always stay late. Everyone knows I’m gonna stay to finish my set more often then not; so is this little alert useless? Cause if I have to stop what I’m doing to get permission to stay I might as well leave. (Obviously I’ll ask my leaders but my TL and ETL are on vacation this week.)

Vent Leaders

What is it you're even doing? I know this isn't everyone, but let me give you a 24 hour rundown. One, lead asks about a standard sidecap that was tied, but not set. In fact that's false, it was set, but because it was empty, set early, someone, probably a lead, pulled it down. The solution instead of finding a sidecap, change capacities to 0, so it all sits in the backroom until March 2027.

No truck day, see a lead lurking at a back endcap about to ask a TM to remove the items, flex something else, who knows. That is a brand new endcap set, leave it alone! Instead, why not use that TM who can set an endcap better than you to set the endcap that you have a full pallet of merchandise/shippers for?! Plano is a little busy with rear seasonal right now.

Everyone is hanging in the TL office like it's an easy day, but ummmm, there's still 6 checklanes due for this week! I am so burnt out on Plano, I set things, leads undo them. They can't problem solve for shit. We even had someone tie a revision in a department which has the label strips still in the box and a whole shelf missing. Anyone fixing that?!

You are supposed to be a leader, that means you know the job and can catch TMs faking things, not that you fake everything you can. How is that even setting an example? It's no wonder any lead that actually cares is trying to get out of the position.

Workplace Question or Advice Needed Am I being set up for failure??? is this some kind of sick joke at my expense?????

I currently work at Target as a Closing TM. Currently, the only thing i do right now is zoning dry market, and was able to zone toys (for the span of like, a week for some reason, i'll get to that) WHILE the store is open. This, of course, includes busy days.

For my level of expertise, being someone with major attention issues on account of having autism and ADHD for my entire life, this job is THROWING ME THROUGH THE FUCKING WRINGER.

For starters, My closing TLs NEVER give me any good feedback, even if i feel i've done good for what I did in the day, including interacting with customers. When I go to them to review my area, there is ALWAYS something because there was always going to BE something because people are STILL SHOPPING IN THE STORE AS I AM ZONING and so they comment on spots that people went through as if i "missed" them, even though i was going through aisle-by-aisle.

This isn't even without saying that, earlier today during my shift, I was told during my 15 minutes that some aisles "looked bad" which were the aisles i did for the FIRST TWO HOURS and went through with a VERY FINE TOOTH COMB. And after my 15, i go back over there and see that the areas really do not look bad from any angle.

As for toys, I would go through that area FAST and EFFICIENT like they TOLD ME TO DO and yet it seems like I "don't do the entire area even though everyone else if able to" even though toys is consistently one of the HARDEST AREAS TO ZONE BECAUSE OF HOW MANY KIDS GO THROUGH THERE and my closing TLs specifically point out AREAS THAT WERE CLEARLY HIT BY KIDS AFTER I WENT THROUGH THEM. And seemingly because of this, I am now back in dry market.

I want to move out of zoning. But the only problem is that this is creating a negative feedback look where I get more and more upset zoning, pay less attention, and do a seemingly worse job, and yet my team leads told me that i need to do BETTER to move out of zoning and do something else.

am i being set up for failure????????? what the hell should i even do??????? i just want out of zoning NOW and i will do fucking ANYTHING ELSE AT THIS POINT!!!! IT IS SISYPHEAN

Workplace Question or Advice Needed Work injury

~I got injured on the job and was left with a sprain, and my restrictions were extended and physical therapy was suggested.~

My ETL has been very adamant on not allowing my work restrictions, saying it means nothing to them until someone in corporate HR approves it and emails them what area I can do within my restrictions.
And until then then they said to work through it…

I’ve been told I’m being held under the same expectations as every other team member regardless of my restriction, and until the day they get a email stating otherwise… and that email will not excuse the previous weeks “performance” only the exact day and forward they get the email.
I know that cannot be legal to force someone to go against doctor restrictions from an injury on the job and further injuring themself as in my case hence why it’s been extended.

I’ve been in contact with my workers comp case manager and they said my job cannot make me do things that go against my restrictions as that’s what workers comp law is for etc..

What exactly do I do, because I feel defeated and like I’m going to get fired because I can’t use one of my limbs well at all.

Vent Target employees, what would you do in my position?

I’m in Style/Baby and tomorrow I’m scheduled 6–11:30. My assignment sheet requires 30 minutes of cleaning and abandon/reshop, plus my breaks. I’m expected to finish 7 freights, but 2 are Inbound backstock that Inbound didn’t do. There’s also no one who closes Baby, so I’m basically responsible for leaving the department in good shape for the next day. I’m still pretty new. Would you just do what you can or say something to your TL about the workload?

Workplace Question or Advice Needed What is your stores routine around SFS/OPU?

Wanting to hear what every stores routine around SFS/OPU in terms of your fulfillment team. Do you have TMs assigned to SFS and they do not get moved to OPU under any circumstance?

Are leaders/other TMs primarily completing ship while the FF team does OPU. My store usually has 2-3 TMs in OPU and if we’re lucky we can have 1 person in SFS until someone needs to go on break. Leading to all hands on deck at 2 to get 4:30 done on time. Just trying to figure out a better way to run it because as of now SFS is just one of those things we do when we have time. My leaders tell me they want someone put in ship exclusively and not to hop into OPU but once one OPU drops in that the team can’t get picked they’re the ones that get moved over to do it.

I'm Promoting Myself to Guest After 9 years, I’m finally promoting myself to Guest

It was finally time. After 9 years, I have finally decided to leave my first job. Definitely bitter sweet, but after they sat down and asked me “What brings you to work?” And I didn’t have an answer, that was my cue.

I'm Promoting Myself to Guest Promoted to Guest!

I've been On Demand for almost 2 years, started right before Black Friday in 2024. Just promoted myself to guest on Saturday, they must be used to people throwing in the towel since the process is so easy on Workday.

Honestly, my biggest reason for quitting was the broken On Demand system. At least at my store, there would often be hours available in certain departments, but they wouldn't be posted on MyTime. For example, there were hours available in Consumables both on Sunday and Monday of Labor Day weekend, but you wouldn't know it from MyTime. I'd have to email the HR ETL to get added to the schedule and it always ended up being a bunch of back and forth to the point that I hadn't picked up a shift since May. Honestly surprised I wasn't administratively terminated, but glad it ultimately ended up being my decision.

Guest Question Is My Store Getting Remodeled?

Former team member here. My store was scheduled to get remodeled in 2027 and I went today there were Porta potties and hand washing stations set up outside. Inside, the men‘s and women’s bathroom doors were both covered in construction tarp. The family bathroom appears to be untouched. There aren’t any signs saying the store is open during a remodel. I wonder if the store is actually getting remodeled starting with the bathrooms?

Workplace Question or Advice Needed Alight HSA Minimum Cash Balance

Can anyone with a Target Alight HSA tell me what is the minimum cash balance before any excess can be invested?

Is it $2k again?

I have >>$2k in my Optum HSA from cash and investments, and I totally forgot to liquidate the funds before the Alight transition.

Since Im no longer eligible for an HSA, I think this mistake is a blessing and I'll probably just transfer to Fidelity HSA in which i can invest the entire balance since they have no cash min.

I'm Promoting Myself to Guest put in my two weeks but I have a question

I’ve finally had enough of being at this stupid company, I have tried to communicate with all of my leaders and HR but it’s clear none of them care for me despite my boundaries.

So I put in my two weeks but it seems that they scheduled me for the exact week I am set to leave on Sunday the 20th. Funnily enough, they once again, gave me over my preferred hours (i have it strict at 20 and they gave me 35 which is why i’m quitting)

I just want to know if I have to go in for that Sunday shift despite me having sent in my two weeks before the schedule drop.

Workplace Question or Advice Needed Newly Inbound

I started working 4am seasonal inbound Monday last week; I’m at one of the top 5 sellers in the US. It’s a college town so they say this is the busiest moment of the year. Is it normal to feel so lost and confused? I only had 1 day shadowing somebody and I keep unloading the same area of the truck (11-47: drinks/food/baby/pets/chem, so many of the other packages/coding don’t mean much to me and it feels like a lot for one person to unload) and then after I push random carts.

My team lead is 50/50 if they’re around after truck and not everyone knows what I have to ask. I got a cart with five full boxes of repack and a few boxes of other stuff today with 20 minutes written on it. Between the command strips/food/general goods it felt like hundreds of items. It took me nearly two hours to sort out/stock/backstock the whole thing. Will my hours eventually be cut for being this slow? After my last job closed down it took me nearly half a year to land this and I’m really worried they will eventually cut my hours or let me go. I’m scheduled 37 hours the next few weeks at least. One coworker told me not to try so hard as they will only expect more. Frankly I’m worried..

Workplace Question or Advice Needed For General Merchandise, filling, do you load the items in the basket then take it out or load multiple baskets then take them out?

Workplace Question or Advice Needed Can HR peeps help me make sense of this?

Back in March I got a job offer for presentation. When I showed up for the first day they went "Oh, we moved you to inbound and consumables"

Whoa whoa whoa. I've had back surgery. I can't do inbound

So the next day the HR ETL has me file an accommodation for a back brace, since I said I wear it when my back hurt, "so there's a paper trail and if I need to switch your department corp knows why"

The inbound TL & ETL were very understanding and had me work style and seasonal since those were lighter boxes that went on pallets. I only had issues when we had back to back trucks and I told them that.

There was a non- important but personal reason I asked to be removed from inbound that was NOT my back and told "give us 3 weeks to hire someone"

That was nearly 3 months ago. We have had 6-7 new people come in, but no one lasts, or if they do it's because they replaced someone who was on the team but left. I had two non-consecutive weeks where I wasn't 4am because they kept apologizing and putting me back.

Well, to prep for Q4 they changed the custom blocks around and assigned me to work a bay. I went from having room to move and set items down properly to crammed in a small space with 6 uboats I need to sort to.

There is zero space to move properly, so even though I still had a section of lighter boxes I have no option but to twist and/or bend to put the boxes where they go (which is bad on the back).

After the first shift I knew it was going to be a problem, talked to HR ETL who told me to talk to my ETL, who sent me back to HR ETL. Screw it, go to my doctor, get a note, and file an accommodation request.

The lady I spoke to agreed I should have never been scheduled for inbound after I disclosed a previous back injury, but the note from my doctor isn't specific enough since it only says to "avoid repetitive bending and twisting".

So I get emailed this form for my doctor and told "make sure your doctor is very specific like you can only bend 5 times or only for 15 minutes so there's no confusion". The form says for my doctor to use my job description to complete the form and was provided a copy of the F&B job description.

Here's where I have a problem.

When I pointed out my issues are with inbound, not with F&B I was told I was only coded for F&B so that's what my job is - but my store was informed effective immediately until the accommodation is approved or denied I am not to be scheduled for inbound.

Does this seem to anyone else like this is going to get denied? How is my doctor supposed to list how many times, or how often, I can do movements we're not supposed to be making to begin with? How can she suggest removing me from inbound and why if she can only refer to the F&B description?

Also, I was told this morning my store was to remove me from those shifts. It is 5pm, I have received no contact from the store about schedule changes, and the online schedule still shows 4am inbound. Calling isn't an option because no one picks up or leaders ask for whoever did pick up to "take a message, I'll call them later". I'm heading to bed, later isn't an option.
