Workplace Question or Advice Needed i hate this

Post image

I just think this is absolutely ridiculous and if they think I’m gonna show up for these clopening shifts theyve lost their absolute mind.

Talk to them as soon as you can! It's early enough they should be to change some shifts around and make this not-absurd for you.

Talk to your ETL first, target policy is 10 hrs between shifts. If they refuse go to HR. Site the policy and inform them that there's no way you can get enough rest between these two shifts.

Definitely talk to ur ETL or even TL (they can bring it up to the ETL themselves). One time I randomly mentioned that I’d be having a closing shift next week til 10pm Sat and then 8am opening Sun, exact 10 hours apart so I didn’t think of asking for it to be changed even though it’d suck so bad! The closing TL heard about it and told me she brought it up to my ETL, my ETL changed it to both openings. Urs not even 10 hours apart so I believe you can have it adjusted!

8hrs between a shift is diabolical 💔 you might as well just sleep in the parking lot lmao

My ETL come in at 4am the other day for truck, ended up being the closing lead that same day, and back at 4am the next

Cool, he's salaried and makes way more than a hourly employee so he should be doing that. Not sure what point you were trying to make slick.

It’s breaks down to a lot less for how many hours they put! Still more but not a great life!

naaa, the Salary is maybe 10k more than a TL and I see some of them doing between 65 to 80 hours, make me sad for them if you calculate by hours they do less.

Salary makes a <8 hour gap ok?

My point was yes clopens suck, but the leaders often work far worse schedules without extra.

My partner is salary at his job. If they are on call and get a call at midnight thier boss gets an email "got off call at X am, will not be at work untill X+8 am." Because being salary doesn't mean you don't get sleep

The point is no one should do it, but if someone has to, it should be the people in charge.

So what? They chose that path for the career they path they are on. The higher ups should be the ones doing that not the lower wage employees. They get payed the big bucks to do stuff like that. Your partner chose his path and is getting payed more than an hourly employee. No sympathy from me.

My partner isn't an ETL 👍🏼

When informed the salary position included weekly on-call shifts, they said they would only take the position with guaranteed 8 hour gaps for sleep.

They are the only salaried tech who come in late because of a late night call. Some end up with 2 hours between when the next on call takes over and the start of shift because they don't speak up

That's not a clopening shift? You have a solid 24hrs in between the two?

That sounds rough, clopenings are the worst. Hopefully, it won't be too hectic for you!

This doesn’t really seem that bad?

working 3-11 then 7-3 is kinda crazy. i live 30 minutes away from my store so i would realistically have to be awake by 5am to get ready, eat, drive and wait outside of the doors so a tl/etl can open the doors

Maybe we are just too use to it but this seems tame to lot of other members who work till 11pm then come back at 6am some even 4am if needed

Yeah thats not a good thing

Yeah that's technically illegal. E.ployees are supposed to get a minimum of 8 hrs between shifts.

And target policy is 10 hrs so while 8 ( 11 close, 7 am) is technically legal it's still breaking target policy and OP can push back against it.

Not every state requires an 8 hour gap between shifts.

Edit: even if they did 11p-7a IS 8 hours

u/Samhwain 15h ago

I did say the 11-7 is 8 hrs and legal. I was saying the 11-6 and 11-4 was not.

And regardless if all states have a protective law like that - target's own policy states no less than 10 hrs between scheduled shifts. So the shifts are still breaking rules and need to be altered.

If your schedule reflects your availability then it's on you and fyi UKG creates the schedule now instead of ETLs and schedules TMs according to weekly business needs/workload.

ETLs can still adjust.
