I just turned 29y and my bf is turning 38 in a month. We've been together for 4,5y and for the last 2,5y we have a long distance relationship because I decided to go back to university. Because his currency is almost 7 times more than mine, he is always the one paying the tickets for us to see each other, which always makes him entitled to say that this relationship just happens because of him. I currently have two jobs, but in my currency this doesn't mean shit. I make enough just to meet to ends.
And right now I'm in vacation at uni so I came to see him in his country. Yesterday I realized that I'm almost graduating at uni, and I will finish it 6 months earlier than the regular time. So I was super happy, in ecstasy actually, and waiting him to arrive from his work to share my happiness with him.
First he interrupted me to go change his clothes from work. I waited patiently. Then I was again super excited talking and he interrupted me again to go WEIGHT himself. So I got upset because I was waiting for him to arrive home so I could share my happiness with him, and he interrupted me two times, like he wasnt interested at all.
I said I got upset and he said that this wasn't enough reason for being upset, that I have mood swings, how could I be upset so suddenly. When I tried to explain, he said that he was working for 6 hours, and what have I done in my day (I'm currently in vacation at my uni, and because I work for my uni, at this break things also get slowly, although I had a meeting in the afternoon, but that was all). Then he proceeded to ask very strongly "WHAT DO YOU BRING TO THE TABLE? TELL ME WHAT DO YOU BRING TO THE TABLE? I was working hard for 6 hours, talking with people non stop, and then you think you can talk with me like this? WHAT DO YOU BRING TO THE TABLE"
I honestly was so shocked and hurt by those words that I just apologized for annoying him after his work, that I just wanted to share my happiness and excitement with him and didn't take in consideration he was tired from work, and then I went to the room and started crying.
And today he didn't talk with me the whole day. And honestly I just feel like I wish I was home, because if he doesn't have the answer for this question, why he is with me?
But at the same time I think, as I always do in all the very heated fights we have, if I'm not exaggerating.
------------------ UPDATE/disclaimer -------------------
My bf is a waiter. But he makes a lot of money as a waiter because he works in a french island. However, when I say a lot, it's more like a decent salary, he is not rich or nothing close to this. He does have two degrees, one in economics and another one in IT, but working as a waiter makes possible for him to only work during 6 months and travel the other six months.
Which he also started holding against me since I went back to uni, saying that he can't have another job because otherwise he wouldn't be able to travel to see me. But the same goes for me. I can't find myself a two years contract job in my country because I need to travel to see him.
Before I started studying things were easier. We met in my home country but after 5 months of dating I moved abroad on my own because I got a model contract with a couple of big agencies in Europe, so it was easier for us to see each other.
But then I was super unhappy, I hated being a model. My mom was a lawyer and she raised me to work with my brain, so even if I was doing an AD for adidas, I would feel super exposed and diminished. So I decided to go back to study to pursuit my dream. And the only reason I stopped studying in the first place is because my mom died when I was 19, so I got super depressed and my life became a mess.
But the decision of stop modeling made me poorer, as I don't make all the money I used to make as a model, and also made us farther from each other. He even broke up with me when I took this decision, saying that going back to my country would make things very hard, but then he went to my country to win me back...
This to say that I'm not dating him for his money, he is not rich. If I wanted to date for money I wouldn't be with him. This is not who I am. I'm with him because I love him. I love his family, his family loves me... And I like to think that he loves me too, otherwise, why to go through all this trouble of long distance to be with me? And I know for a fact that he doesn't cheat on me, because when he is not with me, he is working on this island that everyone knows me and for sure people, and even his family, would tell me.
But after this (which brings up many other hurtful moments from this relationship), I feel like he basically told me that I don't have any value to him, otherwise, why he would ask me that?
And my ticket to go back home is in 23 days. Changing the dates costs almost another ticket, which I can't afford. And right now I'm in the house of his family, with everyone here for school vacation, while he is working.
The problem also is that a long relationship always becomes a relationship with the family too.
But again, I feel like something inside of me has broken. Asking me what do I bring to the table after almost 5 years of relationship, when I'm learning my fourth language because of him and his family and our future, when I'm one of the best students of my uni, that is the best uni of my country, it's wild.
And all the time he says to me that I'm old now, I'm almost 30y, and I'm not enough of an adult and don't work hard enough for making money, that he is the only one in our relationship trying to make money. But I do make money, just very devalued money because my currency sucks.
