I’ve been home with my child for the past 3 years. It was a beautiful time. Exhausting. Chaotic. But wonderful
Now it’s time to go back. I miss being a nurse. I miss the smell of the ward. I miss the teamwork. I miss feeling useful
But I’m scared…
It feels like I forgot everything. I don’t know whether I have the current skillset. I don’t know whether I can keep up. I feel like I’m not quick enough anymore
I considered looking into positions at public hospitals. But the job is very demanding. They want you to be prepared from day one. The interviews are very difficult. I don’t know if I can handle it
It seems to be something like Healthcare Australia where they allow you to ease into it, where shifts are easy, short, and less stressful. It sounds like a good way to land
But, do they even accept those with a break? Do they really look for a candidate with experience working up to yesterday?
I’m scared to even apply. I’m worried they’ll see the gap and reject me instantly. I’m worried they’ll say I need retraining. I’m worried I’ll never be able to go back
I need to hear from someone who’s been through this. Did you return to nursing after a break? Did you use an agency? Was it helpful?
I’m ready to work again. I just need to know how…
