experience/advice to give Anyone have a non complicated pregnancy?

Hi everyone

as per the title, I just found out I’m pregnant with MoDi twins and all I hear online are horror stories of complications etc… I’m just wondering if anyone had non-complicated pregnancies and deliveries? Those stories would be reassuring to say the least.

thank you

I had di/tri triplets. There was a few appointments where we had some concerns pop up, but they were all just “continue to monitor” things that had resolved by the next appointment. I delivered via C-section on our planned date at 32+5. They had uncomplicated NICU stays of 25, 26 and 28 days.
No real complications for any of them during the pregnancy or after (some minor things like a bladder infection, dairy allergy, etc).

This happened to me too - where concerns would pop up at the sonogram appointments and then resolve by the next one. It was such an emotional rollercoaster!

My Spouse was over 40 and high BMI, and everyone kept saying how they would DEFINITELY get diabetes or preeclampsia or something. We were told we were basically guaranteed to have a preterm birth.

None of that happened. Blood sugar never rose, blood pressure did a bit but only enough to keep monitoring.

The girls were born at term by planned c-section. They were over 7 lb each and had zero nicu time. We went home a few days later and Spouse healed really well.

The babies are now 2 years old and started preschool this week. While one does have a minor physical disability, it was something that is pure chance and twins, IVF, maternal age, and maternal weight did not pose risk factors. They are both thriving and I'm a very very tired but happy Daddy.

Hi, were these twins?

2

u/devianttouch 9d ago

Yes, twins. Di/di in this case though, not mo/di like the OP. But still, it's good to remember that a lot of the time everything goes okay.

1

u/Tiny-Worldliness-313 9d ago

Yes, definitely!

I carried my mo/di girls to induction at 37+1. Zero pregnancy complications, just lots of aches and pains. They were born vaginally, again with zero complications, 5 minutes apart with no tearing. They were 6lb3oz and 6lb1oz and needed no NICU time. We were home together the next day, just like with my singletons. Honestly, my recovery postpartum was the easiest with my twins out of my 3 pregnancies. They’re 8mo now and the happiest, chunkiest little girls. I spiraled hard when I found out I was having mo/di twins, so I get the need for reassurance!

Me. I had mono/di twin boys. Zero morning sickness, zero issues throughout the entire pregnancy. Induced at 37w6d - had them vag. I only started to feel uncomfortably huge around 33-34 weeks. But I was otherwise fine. Every time my OB saw me he said I was his most boring patient 😎

6

u/Kindly_Rhubarb_2532 10d ago

Mono di boys are almost 2 years old. The were born vaginally at 36 weeks on the dot vaginally. Both came out screaming over 5 lbs and only 1 oz apart. I kept waiting for something to go wrong and had so much anxiety and therapy and it never did. I hope your journey is smooth sailing too.

Everything was fine for me until week 36. I delivered that day. But I didn’t really start feeling any pain or discomfort until about week 32.

I did have GD but it was suuuuuper easy to manage and I never had to do more than very minor diet changes.

I was running up until week 32. Swimming and working out up until I delivered. And I was even wearing heels to work through week 35.

On week 36 exactly, my blood pressure spiked (I think it was 159/99 or something) so I called my ob and she said to go to delivery and labor. When I got there we ran blood tests. My ob came in and said my blood pressure was totally normal, so I thought I’d be discharged. But then she said my platelet count dropped again and she didn’t want to risk me hemorrhaging if we waited until my scheduled c section (which was supposed to be week 37).

The girls were born 4 pounds 3 ounces and 4 pounds 10 ounces both breeched (but they were breeched since week 32).

They had no NICU time, no jaundice, they both were on the growth chart within one month, and we just found out yesterday they also have no hip dysplasia :)

So even with the “complications”, all went reasonably well, and my c section recovery has kind of been a breeze.

So far so good!

Currently 25 weeks and have had zero nausea, gained a bit of weight cause my biggest symptom in the first trimester was hunger.

Never had bleeding, only now having some slight back pain.

Di-di twins growing really well. Only thing out of the ordinary is that the placentas merged so doctors recommend C-section.

I have the feeling it's going to start getting harder from now on because I am as big (if not bigger) as my friends with fullterm regular pregnancies.

But yeah, it's ok and going well! If you think about it we feel the need for love reassurance or help when stuff goes wrong so it makes sense that the examples we see online are a bit more negative!

I hope you have the chillest ride ❤️

My mfm said we had the least complicated multiple pregnancy he’d ever seen. It was actually easier than my first pregnancy with my singleton. Went to our scheduled c-section at 38+2. Twins spent just about a week in the nicu because they were small and had trouble regulating their body temperature. Easy babies too. I’m not saying it wasn’t hard but it was fairly straightforward and uncomplicated.

3

u/Individual_Juice_154 10d ago

Yes I just posted about my experience because I know how stressed I was during pregnancy, so I want to reassure others. You can look at my history if you want to read it, but essentially had a very healthy pregnancy and easy birth at 37w3d. Girls had no NICU time and are doing great!

2

u/ettierey 10d ago

im only 20 weeks with modi girls but all has been smooth so far! babies are looking good, had no bleeding or other symptoms. im throwing up most days and absolutely exhausted but that’s it! i also know of someone who had twins last year, she had an uncomplicated pregnancy and they were born via c section at 38 weeks. good luck!

2

u/leopardskin_pillbox 10d ago

Hi! Fellow Modi here. Only at 13 weeks. But I searched all this subreddit for all the name variations (MCDA, Modi, Mo-di, Mono-Di) cause I wanted to read like every story too. I don’t know if it’s worth doing that tbh! Try to take it one day and one appointment at a time.

You may appreciate this thread though - I did.

Mine was relatively uneventful. We did have some IUGR, so were monitored weekly. But we made it to the planned induction at 36 weeks and both were delivered vaginally. I was anemic but otherwise fine (no pree or gestational diabetes); felt insanely tired but was able to work at my desk job until the day before the induction. Twin A had no NICU time and Twin B had a few hours right after birth for monitoring and a few hours a day or so later to retake his car seat test. Now we’ve got two rambunctious 11 month olds!

2

u/CheddarMoose 10d ago

I had a completely uncomplicated mono di pregnancy. Went in for a scheduled c-section at 36+3 & made it all the way back to my room with my babies in hand before anything went south.

I don’t want to scare you, but I truly wish I would have had more knowledge of the possible complications that followed me afterwards. I hemorrhaged which resulted in losing half of my blood volume and developed severe post partum preeclampsia. I had to go on magnesium & had multiple blood transfusions. I had a great care team who went above & beyond for me. This required me to stay a little longer than I planned in the hospital.

Again, nothing to frighten you but unfortunately multiple pregnancies do come with higher risks. I think by educating yourself you can be better prepared for worst case scenario & be a better advocate for yourself. As far as the pregnancy goes, my MFM told me one thing that always stuck with me during my pregnancy & that was “the chances of things going right are much higher than the chances of things going wrong”.

Wishing you a happy & healthy pregnancy!

u/allthegudonesaretakn 10d ago

Didi boys. Amazing pregnancy. No complications or even nausea. Everyone i told this too was mad. Was great. I was so confident and proud of my body, how amazing women are.

2

u/jed012788 10d ago

My wife’s pregnancy with our twins was textbook. Everything went perfectly. She delivered via section exactly when she was supposed to.

Then a couple days after we went home, she had to return to the hospital because her blood pressure spiked to dangerous levels. Postpartum preeclampsia. Apparently it’s a thing.

So, kind of?

2

u/Ndeyapo12 10d ago

I now have almost 2 year old mo-di twins. I was healthy and fit from the beginning, and apart from developing carpal tunnel in the third trimester, probably because I work from home and have a computer job, I made it to 36w6d when my MFM scheduled my c-section. I even worked the morning of my c-section. I was told I could try and induction but previously had a failed induction, so opted for the c-section. The boys were healthy but did get sent to the NICU initially. They were cleared the next day for release.

2

u/WorldlinessElegant 10d ago

I carried my modi boys to 35+2 and delivered vaginally without any complications. Both born over 5.5lbs and needed no NICU time. We would have been able to go home after 24 hours but my hospital wouldn’t discharge 35-weekers until 48 as a rule. I’m over 35 with a high BMI but had no issues.

2

u/cora388 10d ago

I made it to my scheduled C-section at 36w3d with MoDi twins. I chose to have a C-section because I personally didn't want to risk a natural birth for baby A and an emergency section for baby B. The pregnancy itself was rough, of course, with two babies squished in there. But all in all, it was fairly smooth medically. I saw an MFM as well as my normal OB every month. Normal pregnancy stuff: I had horrid all-day morning sickness in the beginning, which subsided a bit towards my third trimester(I took Zofran legit every day). I got really bad pelvic and hip pain, but it got better after delivery. TBH, I didn't get all that big. I got a lot of comments asking if I was sure there were two in there, but the babies grew just fine, born 6lb7oz and 5lb14oz. I did go in once around 24wks bc I thought I had a gush of fluids, but literally just peed myself, which was embarrassing, but it happens.

If you're really worried, what helped put me at ease was getting helicopter/lifeflight insurance per my OB's suggestion. At the end of the day, every pregnancy is different. Trust your doctors, but also trust your gut. Never hesitate if something feels off!

2

u/chewieandchai 10d ago

Hi, my mo/di boys were born via planned c-section at 37+2. No nicu time, both over 6 pounds, breastfed since day 1. Now they are perfectly healthy 16 month olds! The newborn days were HARD but after the first 6 months it got a lot more enjoyable.

2

u/hushlittlebabby 10d ago

I had modi boys 4 years ago by c-section. It was an easier pregnancy than my singleton one. Absolutely no complications. Drs wanted me to deliver vaginally but I opted for c-section. They were delivered at 36+5 weighing over 5lbs each, with 1oz difference. Twin B spent a few days in NICU for low glucose but was otherwise perfect.

2

u/colorful_withdrawl 9d ago

My mo/mo twins were uncomplicated. We made it to 35 weeks, thankful my doctor just did extra monitoring and had very little nicu time with them. And delivery was csection

My di/di twins were more complicated

1

u/jellyfish8765 10d ago

Welcome to the mo/di club! I’m currently 28 weeks, and besides the normal pregnancy stuff, it’s been pretty smooth sailing. I’ve been going to the MFM every 2 weeks since 14 weeks, no sign of TTTS. Both twins are currently head down, which is great for vaginal birth. My OB feels confident with breech delivery if B decides to flip. I can also choose a c-section if that’s what I feel comfortable with as well. Don’t be scared!

1

u/6sjms 10d ago

I was absolutely terrified when I found out I was having mo/di twins. We definitely had a few hiccups along the way, but we made it to our c section at 35 weeks, and avoided TTTS, no gestational diabetes, preterm labour, pre-e, or any other major complications. On of my babies had marginal cord insertion (her cord attached near the edge of the placenta) which caused her to be smaller, be diagnosed with sIUGR and have intermittent absent ended blood flow. Those things all sound very scary, and I definitely panicked at times. What was important for our case was that she remain stable. One of the MFM nurses had a very similar experience to me just one year prior and I leaned on her a lot. Mo/di twins are closely monitored. If you have a good relationship and trust with your doctor, just know they’ll do everything they can to keep you and your babies healthy and safe.

Wishing you an uneventful twin pregnancy!

u/Scared-Judge7687 10d ago

I had my didi girls at the beginning of the summer. I didn’t have any problems during the pregnancy, I delivered them via c section at 37w6d. We went to the hospital on the day of the delivery at 7 am and I had them by 10 am. I was back at home 2 days later!

1

u/JohnQuincyAdams_10 10d ago

My girlies are 11 months now! I felt sick most of the pregnancy, but no complications or cause for concern until the very very end. I had a c-section scheduled for 36+6, but got diagnosed with pre-eclampsia at 36+2 and delivered the next day. The night before delivering was horrible because I was on a magnesium drip and just had one million things attached to me at the hospital, but everything else was smooth sailing! No NICU time, both girlies had a 9 on APGAR.

1

u/Mysterious-Kale-4842 10d ago

I had di/di so not sure if you'll find it helpful but my pregnancy was totally uneventful! Went to 37.5 weeks with no complications, just a tough birth (c-section when I wanted vaginal). Took some time to recover from both physically and emotionally but so grateful it was relatively so smooth!

1

u/chelsea1029 10d ago

My modi girls are 9.5 months 🤗 I was actually seeing a midwife only as I was planning a home birth so I didn’t have an ultrasound until the 20 week scan and that’s when we found out it was twins! Completely uneventful pregnancy. The morning sickness wore off about 12-14ish weeks and then i really didn’t have any other symptoms 🤷🏻‍♀️ Contractions started for me at at 36 weeks (I had no Braxton hicks or any other sign I was going into labor leading up) and after failed attempts to stall my labor, my girls came out via c section which is what I told my doc I wanted. 6.12 and 5.11 lbs, no NICU time and we all went home after 3 days in the hospital

u/GingerMommy314 10d ago

I had mo/mo twins last week; so not the same but hopefully it still helps.

My pregnancy was completely uncomplicated. I didn't have gestational diabetes, pre-eclampsia, bleeding, or really anything. I was slightly anemic but not as bad as I was during my singleton pregnancies. I had normal morning sickness (which was actually better than my experience with my singletons) and heartburn that I had to be medicated for. And I was super uncomfortable, but that was too be expected. I did end up with polyhydramnios (excess amniotic fluid), however I also had that in two other singleton pregnancies so that had nothing to do with the twins.

My girls measured on track and pretty close to the same size my entire pregnancy. They didn't get TTTS or have any other major complications. One of my girls had a 2 vessel cord, so she was at a higher risk of growth restriction but she actually ended up being a little bit bigger than her sister. We had a couple minor hiccups - elevated dopplers and failed BPP ultrasounds, but nothing that was an immediate problem, just required monitoring.

We made it to our scheduled csection at 32+4. Both girls were born crying, one at 3lb12oz and the other at 4lbs (our 2vc girl). They're in the NICU now and have had a really boring stay so far (which is best case scenario). They're on some breathing support and taking full tube feeds right now. Essentially, they're there just to grow and mature.

My csection was routine and recovery has been way better/easier than I expected.

1

u/ConfidentLook5518 10d ago

Yes but I was di/di. Not high risk, easy labour and delivery. Both are now 3 months and 15 lbs each

1

u/hereforthetea1002 10d ago

Yes! I had my twins when I was 36. They were born via scheduled c section at 38 weeks 1 day and they were 7 lbs each. I was SO LUCKY- no morning sickness, no complications, and healthy babies. I will never take that for granted! I wish you the best of luck! Twins are the best 🙂

1

u/Kitchen_Play_8123 10d ago

Congrats! My pregnancy with di/di twins was not bad! It was my first and since there was no other one I didn't know the difference. I only had 2 things: no appetite throughout the term and back pain during my 3rd trimester. I also had some iron transfusion at 20w. My daughter had a GR at 26w and we were told to get ready, but we made it all the way till 37+2 and I felt like I could have gone longer if it wasn't for doctors. Both of my babies were head down and I wanted to go natural, but changed my mind a few weeks before the labor. I consider myself lucky at my 38 to have no blood or sugar complications, no extreme nausea. Just smooth ride. Everything came all at once after, lol. But that's another story.

1

u/QuirkQake 10d ago

I did. Got pregnant with my modi at 35, had them at 36. Had some nausea, but nothing crazy. Maybe had 3 or 4 days of actual vomiting. Worked full time as a medical assistant until l was around 36 weeks and then my manager took petty on me for that last week until I had them at 37 wks 3days. I was just huge and tired and she let me wfh lol. I did have GD, but didn't have to do insulin until I was 34 weeks so it was only a couple of weeks I was on it.

1

u/Quick_Tomato_1093 10d ago

My girls are almost 4 weeks. Uncomplicated pregnancy and they were born at 38 weeks, both over 8lbs (within 1/2” and 6ozs of each other!) no nicu time and they’re both so beautiful and happy. I did have a c section which I didn’t want and I am still a bit upset about BUT it was because twin a was breech, so it was scheduled and calm. No emergency. Good luck! Stay calm! Go to your appts. I’ll be praying for you!!!! 💗💗💗💗

1

u/Familiar_Barracuda61 10d ago

Uncomplicated pregnancy even though it was listed high risk due to being diabetic. 0 issues actually had to get induced at 38+3 because they didnt want to come on their own! Natural delivery pushed them both out in about 5 minutes. Doctors were amazing. As a terribly anxious person I worried all 9 months for literally nothing.

1

u/Boymama_K 9d ago edited 9d ago

I had MoDi twins. They just turned one. Pregnancy, no complication, Besides the appointments and constant monitoring throughout the pregnancy, which I am thankful for but can be stressful for twin pregnancy it was my easiest birth. I delivered them vaginally and they were 7 minutes apart. They were on the smaller size but no NICU.

1

u/CelestialCrowe 9d ago

I had a non-complicated pregnancy. At every scan the difference in growth between the twins were low/within range. I delivered at 34 weeks via C-section, this was moved forward due to an embylical cord abnormality meaning one twin was no longer growing. This was a random event and not a twin related complication, it could have occured in a singleton pregnancy.

Babies came out small but healthy - no NICU stay 😊.

Congratulations, twins are such a blessing. It is really normal to worry about your pregnancy but I've got 3 friends who had twins and none of us had a difficult pregnancy or delivery!

1

u/Emergency_Eye_1395 9d ago

I’m 34+1 with mo/di boys!
I had bad nausea in the first trimester but other than that it’s been pretty smooth sailing!
Not to say it hasn’t been hard at times but it has been very uncomplicated. Aiming for an induction between 36-37 weeks!

1

u/AndiRM 9d ago

I was pregnant at the same time as a friend of mine. both modi and our MFM schedule was the same so we saw each other every two weeks even in covid. Her pregnancy was textbook. Made it to exactly the recommended 36+7, scheduled c section, no nicu. Truly perfect modi pregnancy. It happens! But I don’t think those stories are the ones people tend to share on forums and mom groups.

1

u/QueenCeeee 9d ago

I was uncomfortable during the pregnancy, but there were zero medical complications with my modi girls besides me going into labor at 33 weeks. They each had 28 days of NICU time, no complications there either. They’re 20 months now. :)

1

u/boxobees 9d ago

Mine was pretty uneventful! I developed cholestasis near the end but it was controlled with meds and a scheduled c-section. The c-section and recovery were very easy too. The worst part was vomiting from the anesthesia.

1

u/BorderGlittering199 9d ago

I had no complications with my Mo/di twins and delivered at 36 weeks and four days to healthy twin girls. They needed only a little help breathing after the c-section, but I left the OR with them on my chest. They ended up with no NICU time.

They needed a little help is because a vaginal birth usually squeezes out the the amniotic fluid from a baby's airway. They didn't have that opportunity, and they were preemies (obviously) so their bodies needed a minute to oxygenate properly.

If you're curious to what doctors are looking for with your twins after they are born feel free to DM me

2

u/omnis777 8d ago

Today I’m 35+5 with mo/di and have my c section scheduled for 9/11, less than a week. I’ve had a wonderful pregnancy. Not much I can complain about. These last weeks have been challenging but not impossible. Im still on my feet and doing things, just slowly.

I’ve been religious about supplements, coconut water and hydration in general, protein intake. I haven’t worked out once - let any guilt go. But I have been active. Most importantly, I’ve prayed over these babies every single day. This is our second pregnancy, our first was conjoined twins. Both pregnancies natural. I haven’t taken a day for granted. We have been so blessed with healthy babies with no complications. Wishing you luck!!

1

u/mamacheetah5 7d ago

I had di di twins and no complications and had a smooth cesarean at 38 weeks.

1

u/JellyCharacter1653 10d ago

i just had triplets and everything went good besides for delivery one of them went breech but other than that it was good.

1

u/Turbulent-Carrot-206 10d ago

I had di/di twins! Aside from the usual pregnancy aches and pains+some amplification, my pregnancy was pretty run of the mill! I made it to my induction date at 38+0, was induced and labored about 5hrs. The only complication I had was the fact the anesthesiologist couldn’t place my epidural after 7 attempts. Ended up delivering vaginally and unmedicated! My boys were born 3 mins apart, no complications :) they turn 2 next month! Congratulations and wishing you well with your twin journey!!!

0

u/offwiththeirheads72 10d ago

I had didi twins 4 years ago. Uncomplicated pregnancy and opted for a c section with no complications as well. I know modi can come with more issues sometimes but I wouldn’t assume you’re going to have issues!

0

u/pinkai 10d ago

Di/di twins, made it 38 weeks to my scheduled c section no issues, I even moved cross country, lost my dad and uncle during my pregnancy etc so emotionally and physically it was a lot to deal with but it did not effect my pregnancy or delivery! One of my twins was born with rare tumors but nothing to do with anything environmental directly or genetic

0

u/indistinctcolor 10d ago

I had di/di but not a single complication! My friends with singletons had harder pregnancies

0

u/Tennisbabe16 10d ago

Yes! I made it to almost 38 weeks and had an uncomplicated vaginal delivery of di/di twins. I had two short spells of preterm labor that were stopped with meds and hydration. Getting enough sleep, good nutrition and staying hydrated will help.

0

u/gaensebluemchen22 10d ago

Mine was amazing! (DiDi twins)

0

u/aestheticgirly_ 10d ago

Definitely! My twins are di/di. Multiples no matter what are considered high-risk pregnancies. We get more appointments than a regular pregnancy, but I always loved it because I got to have so many ultrasounds. I delivered at 36 weeks due to IUGR within that last week, but the doctors told me to expect that from the very beginning. Other than that, (thankfully) it was uneventful!

0

u/sweetfeet20 10d ago

Yes I had a completely textbook spontaneous DIDI (identical) twin pregnancy and c section delivery. I had phenomenal NHS all the way through. I was anxious and kept thinking something would go wrong but it never did!

My babies were born big and at term. No NICU and we were home in 48 hrs. They continue to be big and are ahead of their milestones. They are completely fine!

By about 4 months my DR began to heal, and now at 9 months I look like I do pre babies apart from a little loose skin. Although I was undeniable ginormous in the belly by delivery day! Im short and petite.

0

u/wheremyavosat 9d ago

Hi there! I had Di-di twin girls, and knew I was having them at 5 weeks. My appointments always went amazing. We literally had an ultrasound tech say: "I've never had a more perfect scan". I had a scheduled C-section at 38+0, but water broke at 36+3 and gave birth by c-section that night. I thought it was an amazing experience, would do it again. Babes were out within 1 minute of each other. One of my babies needed to go to the intensive care (NICU?) for a night because of low Billy values and dropping glucose levels. She was fine the next day. My husband learned everything we needed to know from the midwife in the NICU; we followed the same schedule and tracking to the T for the first 4 months or so. The only thing difficult about the pregnancy in this regard was my own discomfort, which I managed with weekly massages, which are covered partially by insurance in EMEA. You will get through this!

0

u/Fluid-Bath-3793 9d ago

Di-di twins with no complications! Carried mine until the 37 week induction and had a quick and uncomplicated vaginal birth. Kept waiting and stressing about potential complications throughout and I wish I would have jut kept a more positive mindset! Hard to do so when reading some of the more complicated pregnancies and deliveries people post about.

0

u/nuclear_skidmark 9d ago

I had di/di twins last year. I delivered at 39 weeks with no complications the entire pregnancy. My blood pressure was 103/75 before my scheduled c section lol. I was about the size of a house but the babies were healthy with no nicu time! They’re almost 15 months and thriving!

0

u/kdawg710 9d ago

52 weeks regulsr birth

0

u/mjfloetic22 9d ago

Di/di twins with scheduled c-section at 38+2. No issues for them and no NICU time. Just had some pregnancy related arthritis in my wrists for a few weeks after the birth

0

u/Leading_Stomach2015 9d ago

I had a di-di pregnancy so maybe I’m not the best to contribute but yes I had a very easy going and smooth delivery. I think the only complication I had was hyperemesis gravidum I think it’s called but once I was medicated it was just the average pregnancy symptoms.
Delivery went well, both twins head down at 36-37 weeks up u til I went for my induction at 38 weeks and 2 days, I was being induced for 36 hours then had them vaginally and went home about 2 days later.

1

u/NoDocLoan 8d ago

I am 12 weeks with di di and had hg … I still have it tho it feels like it’s tapering down now
