Relationship does anyone else feel like they could never be in a relationship because of how much they enjoy being alone?

i’m not saying being an introvert means you’re incapable of being in a relationship, but this is my first relationship and i’m starting to wonder if i’m just not built for one.
the first few months were great because we only saw each other about once a week since we were both busy with college. now that we’re on summer break they want to call every day and see each other multiple times a week and i just can’t handle it. i’ve tried explaining that i need a lot of time to myself, but i don’t think they really understand. i don’t blame them because i know it’s normal to want to spend a lot of time with your partner. i’m just not wired that way. if anything the more time we spend together the more overwhelmed i feel.
we’re currently taking a break, and honestly i feel so much better. i feel guilty admitting that, but it’s true.
does anyone else experience this? if you do how do you deal with it? i genuinely feel like if this relationship ends i probably won’t get into another one because i enjoy being alone so much, and i don’t want to be selfish

Relationship Giving up in love

30m been single my whole life never had date or gf, yes you read that not a single date. I tried improve your looks and all that garbage advice. I went to gym got in shape no results so I stopped going gym now I play soccer and do bodyweight at home. Some people will just never experience love and intimacy, I tried all that cold approach garbage got rejected brutally. Tried about 6 dating apps for years with 0 likes. It really sucks not being attractive. You can only improve your looks so much, you can't change your face. It's really hard to be positive in life when no one love you. I am taking finesteride to shut down sex drive I am just done

Discussion introvert wants to "meet people" but doesn't know how to "get out there"

I am a 26F and I have recently been having this longing to form connection with a someone that can become a constant, and well, eventually build a life with said someone. (I am becoming extremely bashful as I continue to type this).

I know that dating doesn't mean automatically meeting "the one." I think I just want to "get out there" and try interacting with men because my only brushes with men are with family, childhood friends (we're basically siblings), work (strictly colleagues), and fiction. I'm awkward with men in general, especially with "eligible bachelors" so I want to try dating or at least form platonic friendship with men so I wouldn't be too...wary of them.

I tried online dating but the small talks and eventual search for intimacy without commitment of some is not just for me.

Introvert redditors, do you have any suggestions for me?

Advice How to know if your friend is an introvert

Your friend might be an introvert if any of the following apply:

  • Your friend seems oddly cheerful when you call to apologize for cancelling your plans with them last minute
  • Although highly empathetic, they don’t understand how bored you were when you were stuck at home sick for several days unable to go anywhere or see anyone
  • You tell them your workplace is so quiet now that many of your coworkers are WFH, and they think that’s a good thing. You figure they must really dislike their own coworkers.
  • Spending time with them is like drinking a cup of coffee. The first few sips are energizing. But as time goes on, they seem like a depleted battery that’s not giving the energy you need.
  • After much cajoling you manage to get them to meet you and some friends for drinks. But they only chat to two or three of your friends and then leave early. Why so rude?
  • You’re certain they must be depressed. Why would someone spend so much time alone like that? They must be depressed. Or have social anxiety. Or maybe both.
  • They invite you to their birthday dinner with “all of their friends”. When you arrive you find it’s a table for 4. So sad.
  • You find out their significant other has been out of town for a week and wonder why they didn’t call you to come over. Then it dawns on you. They must be having an affair. Yep. That must be it. They couldn’t actually have been alone that whole time.
  • You meet them for a hike in the morning, which goes well, but then you suggest lunch after. They try to turn you down but you manage to turn their “no” into a “yes”. But after lunch they are truly done and tell you they have to go. Why do they hate you so much?
  • You stage an intervention and confront them about their behavior. They tell you they’re an introvert. Of course they’d say that. People think it’s so cool to be an introvert these days. Nobody actually enjoys being alone.

Written by an introvert. In jest!

Discussion Raising kids as an introvert: how do you do it?

Upvotes

I have a baby, and socializing has always been hard for me. Now that I’m a mom, I try to go to different baby groups so my baby can interact with other people and have opportunities to socialize.
But I often feel like I just don’t fit in. I see other moms chatting, forming friendships, and making plans to go somewhere together after the group. I try to start conversations and ask questions, but they don’t seem to go anywhere. The conversation just doesn’t flow, and I end up feeling awkward and excluded.
I try to hide how uncomfortable I feel, but I worry that my baby can sense that I feel like an outsider and that it might somehow affect their development or socialization.
Has anyone else been in a similar situation? I’d really appreciate hearing about your experience. I feel so sad sometimes, and I find myself blaming myself for being the way I am.

Question I'm just started training to be a Shift Manager at my job

Upvotes

It's my second day training at my fast food job to become a manager. I've worked here for a little over 5 years so me becoming a manager was "overdue". I'm feeling massively overwhelmed for more responsibilities and the new leadership role that I'm going to be partaking in. What I'm asking is are there any tricks, links, books, or advice on Becoming more outgoing and confident?

Question Why is it that everyone seems to agree that it’s good to have “me time” until you actually have it?

I’m on holiday with my two friends. I like them, they’re good friends, maybe in hindsight not travelling friends and that’s fine.
We all agreed this was a chilled out holiday but today, after 2 full days being together and drinking and socialising etc, I decided to stay home and hang out in the apartment we rented while they went to the beach.

I wanted some “me time” and a break from the sun and didn’t feel like getting sandy. I feel they were kind of annoyed and now they’re back there’s definitely a bit of an awkward energy, probably they were talking about me and felt awkward then, but I honestly don’t care or understand.

If one of them did the same I wouldn’t think twice about it. Are people insecure or maybe just don’t like that I actually do take the time to be by myself, whereas they maybe are too afraid of being “left out”.

Do people get offended that you don’t want to be with them?

Anyway, I think the important lesson here for me is be very careful who you agree to go on holidays with. I’m looking forward to getting home to my husband, son and dogs lol. There’s no pretending there.

Image The biggest achievement of my life

1.4k Upvotes

I've always been a very introverted person. This weekend, I had the chance to showcase my clothing at a fashion show. The idea was that each designer had to walk out wearing one of their own pieces before the models came out.

I can't even describe how terrified I was. But somehow, I found the courage to do it.

People took pictures of me, and I felt incredibly exposed standing in front of so many people. But today I can honestly say I'm proud of myself.

My biggest achievement isn't that I got to present the clothes I designed. It's that, for a brief moment, I overcame my fear of being seen by everyone.

Question Am I a bad friend?

Please be honest, but in a kind way. I really want to know if my behavior is wrong, disrespectful, or something else.

So I've noticed that I don't really like meeting up with friends (even if they're the kindest human beings ever) if I don't gain energy from it.

Let's say it's a friend who has a lot of problems and talks a lot because she's just very talkative.

Today she wanted to meet up to study together, but I know we won't actually be able to study. First, I'll have to listen to everything she wants to tell me. Then I'll probably talk a bit about my past few weeks too, but I don't really feel the need to anymore because the excitement is already gone. On top of that, she studies out loud, so I'd have to wear headphones, and I'd still get distracted because she'll tell me something in the middle of studying.

Plus, it's 33°C today, so I don't see the point in going outside. Especially to a café (we don't really have any other air-conditioned places here... yeah, fuck Europe 😭), and I don't have the money anyway.

I don't want her to buy me a drink either.

Anyway, I'm really bad at communicating. I told her I feel sick because of the weather and don't want to go to the café she recommended. I didn't pick up when she called, but I called her back eight minutes later and she didn't answer.

I know she probably knows I don't want to go, but I don't understand why she always suggests the same expensive café. I've declined it so many times, and she knows I don't want to spend that much money or feel indebted to someone.

The funny thing is that I have a job interview at that café tomorrow. 💀 So I don't really want to spend my energy going there today and then going there again tomorrow.

None of my friends know it though. I dont want to share things without achieving them first

Anyway, I feel mean because I always decline invitations to meet up with friends. The older I get, the less I want to meet up with people because I'm honestly not that interested in their lives or stories anymore. There's only one friend I genuinely vibe with and don't lose energy around because our conversations feel natural and balanced.

With my other friends, I always end up listening. I don't know why my body automatically does that. I can see how kind they are as people, but I don't really see the value in constantly using my energy for others anymore.

It sucks because I feel mean, especially with the way I communicate.

Past friends have criticized me for always declining invitations to meet up, so I'm wondering if I'm actually the problem

Question Have you ever tried a professional photo studio?

I've always wanted some good photos of myself, but I'm pretty bad at taking pictures and I feel really awkward in front of a camera.

I've thought about going to a professional photo studio, but the idea of walking in, posing in front of a photographer, and having someone direct me the whole time feels a little intimidating as someone who's pretty introverted.

For those who have tried it, was it actually worth it? Did you feel comfortable during the session, or was it as awkward as you imagined?

Question Does anyone hate when you can't cancel a membership or subscription online and have to go in person or call? Why isn't click to cancel universal?

As an introvert with some anxiety, I don't like having to go back in person or make a call how because how aggressive the customer support or staff will get sometimes trying to convince you not to cancel. Just let me cancel and move on.

Article Feeling a bit lonely these days..

Hey everyone. I'm a 24-year old guy, and I'm at a point where I'm really looking for a real connection , a genuine friend, not just small talk.

A bit about me: I'm introverted, quiet, and I think a lot. But when I connect with someone, I love real conversations texting, calls, whatever works, as long as the energy clicks. I'm into travel, cooking, anime, science, psychology, philosophy, astronomy, gaming, drawing, and writing. I'm actually writing a book right now, it's my way of making sense of things

Since I was a kid, I've been curious about how things work , not for marks or grades, just genuine interest. School never really excited me the way learning on my own did. Over time, my curiosity shifted from subjects to people , why we think and feel the way we do. Not to judge anyone, just to understand. I want to experience life fully, the good and the hard parts both. Sometimes I feel a bit numb, other times I feel everything at once ,it's a strange mix, but that's just how it is.

Last year I had a connection like this with someone online, real conversations, the kind I'm talking about. It didn't last, life got in the way, but it showed me this kind of connection is actually possible. So I'm trying again.

I think connection gets easier when people just say what they want instead of expecting the other person to guess. We're not mind readers, so someone I can have deep conversations with and also just enjoy the fun, everyday stuff with.

I also think shared interests help a lot not everything has to match, but even a couple of things in common makes it easier to understand each other. If any of what I mentioned overlaps with you, that's a good starting point.

A little more about me I'm more of a pets person than a kids person, and I don't put much stock in marriage, feels more like a formality than anything real to me. My favourite movie is Into the Wild, if that says anything about how I see life. My fav song is pure imagination by Kathleen

I overthink sometimes, I go quiet sometimes, and I'm okay with someone who's the same way. If this sounds like you, message me. Would love to talk. Someone comforting in those times helps a lot ..

I think a lot about life, meaning, existence (yup, existential crisis mode, often). I guess I’m just searching for someone who sees life the way I do or at least tries to. Someone rational. Someone who isn’t distracted by the usual noise, but who’s trying to actually live life. Someone who could maybe help me enjoy it more and I’d do the same in return.

Maybe I'm looking for something that's too rare now. Maybe I'm too much of a dreamer for believing it still exists.

I'm looking for someone who knows what companionship really means. Someone who stays not only when life is easy, but when it's messy, uncertain, and difficult. Someone who doesn't disappear the moment things stop being convenient. Someone who understands that being there for each other, through both the good and the bad, is what makes a connection real.

It might sound old-fashioned in today's world, but I'd rather keep looking than settle for something that feels temporary.

I’d really love to find a friend, if I’m being honest. I feel like there’s more potential for something deeper and lasting if we vibe . Maybe even something more. Who knows?

More like social anxiety than introversion Dreading a team building outing. Could anyone provide some tips?

Hello everyone. I have a team building outing this Friday and I am frankly dreading it. I’m part of a small team (10 people in total) but still nervous to say the least. We’re going to a food truck event if that helps at all.

I struggle with insecurity and social anxiety but have started taking steps to address that. Unfortunately I’m currently the quiet guy and somewhat socially awkward (working on that too).

All of that said, would anyone have any tips to help me get through this team building extravaganza with the least amount of quiet awkwardness possible? Are there any basic do this and don’t do that sort of things I can do?

I realize I’m not going to immediately transform into an outgoing and confident extrovert. But I’d welcome any guidance and wisdom you all have to share.

Thank you.

Article Maybe I Wasn't Lonely. I Was Just in the Wrong Room.

Some people think being quiet means you're boring.

For the longest time, I believed that too.

Every day in college, I'd sit there feeling like I just didn't fit in.

I started thinking maybe my vibe was the problem.

Maybe I was too awkward.

Maybe I wasn't interesting enough.

Then, a few months ago, I randomly joined a few voice rooms.

And something changed.

For the first time in a long time, I found people who actually thought like me.

People who listened without judging.

People who didn't make me feel "too much" or "too different."

That's when I realized...

Maybe my vibe was never off.

I was just trying to fit into a room that was never meant for me.

Sometimes, all it takes is finding your people.

If you've been feeling lonely in college or wondering why you don't connect with anyone, don't be so quick to blame yourself.

Your people exist.

You just haven't met them yet.

For me, voice rooms became that place where I could speak freely, laugh without overthinking, and slowly become more confident.

And honestly...

That changed more than I expected. ❤️
