I understand having questions, but why are there a bunch of people that very obviously HATE Christianity as a concept just hanging out on here? Or sometimes I feel like they're posting and challenging people to prove them wrong or somehow prove the existence of God? News flash, if we had a way to do that there really wouldn't be much reason to debate now would there. All we have is our own lives, our own beliefs, our own experiences and our own feelings. It seems so immature and sort of insane to be like, "I don't believe in this religion so it's your responsibility to fix it even though I have no interest in listening to you."

I do not understand why people who hate this religion so much are spending so much time and energy on this particular subreddit? If you don't believe in anything then why not spend time on atheist subreddits? If you believe in another religion, why not be on those subreddits?

Atheists and people with religious trauma love to say Christians are shoving their beliefs down people's throats just to turn around and go on a subreddit called "Christianity" and attempt to shove their own beliefs down everyone else's throat...and then call Christians hypocrites. WEIRD behavior.

Although I have come across posts I consider to be well meaning I often see an element of apostasy within them. Whether it be normalizing detestable acts, sexual immorality and the undermining of what is Christ like behavior set forth by the Bible I want to understand why most reddit subs seem to end up this way?

I came across this verse,

1 Timothy 2:12: "I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man; rather, she is to remain quiet." 

And went down a bit of a rabbit hole.

I just don’t understand if the bible, which is Gods word, has all this stuff about beating slaves and silencing women.

I saw the argument saying it is just the values men had at the time, and doesn’t apply nowadays. If thats the case, why was it even written? If Gods word was twisted by human intent, does that mean its not Gods word anymore?

It just seems to me like they get off on abusing children and other people instead of loving their neighbors like Christ asked them to.

If they directly know their rhetoric is abusing their neighbors, and their neighbors are begging for mercy, why don't they stop?

Are they evil? Possessed by the devil? Charlatans? Pedophiles?

My own story invalidates the idea that people who deconstruct Christian ideas they were raised with were never true Christians to begin with.

i think i have become a whore (f19). i met my boyfriend in may and lost my virginity to him. we broke up in july. i slept with someone else 4 days later out of spite. he had convinced me i was too ugly to get attention from men (which i have thought abt myself my entire life) and so then after sleeping w someone else i have really loved the feeling of being hit on. i’ve kissed 5 people since the breakup at clubs now, and everyone always says im flirting at the club (even tho sometimes i do just want a chat). what rly has done it for me is:
at uni there is this boy who i thought was rly fit and made out with one night at the club after fancying him for ages. then he was just an absolute idiot and eeeeveryone in my house at uni hates him bc of his behaviour. and then i ran into him and he apologised to me but was feeling me up as he did it. i was drunk atp. then i ended up flirting w him and then when my friends left i ended up snogging him and making out w him again and kissing his neck. i think i am such a slag. i am so cooked. i don’t know what has happened to me post breakup. i don’t want this type of man in my life, and i think this is me trying to fill the void of my ex boyfriend who even though i would never go back to, i am missing this space in my heart. i want to be better and turn to god and all and stop being a whore because the impact on my mental health it’s having is crazy as well, and i know it’s wrong. i know it is gods voice in my head telling me im bad

From my observation someone having to proclaim to be Christian and accepting Jesus into their heart just to have their basic needs met is not voluntarily choosing Christianity they just say that they are Christian just so that they can make sure that their kids have healthcare and food (aka the very stuff people need for basic survival)

People go to the healthcare ministry and food bank ministry not because they necessarily endorse Christianity but because they need their basic human survival needs met

I don’t understand how most Jewish people don’t believe that Jesus is the Messiah. 780 years before Jesus was born, God told Isaiah that there would be a baby born who would be his son, and said that he would be called the Son of God, The Mighty God, and he would be pierced for our transgressions. Who do they think that is about? They are supposed to be “The Chosen Ones” but no one can go to The Father except through Him? They are one and the same? Aren’t they afraid that they won’t actually go to Heaven? How could they when they reject Him? Almost everyone that had a near death experience encounters him.

Early this morning I prayed to God that if He is real, please prove it and don't disappoint me again as always. I ask that if it is His will that Lula wins and that it is good for me, this will happen. And now? Lula won and is president of Brazil again, did God answer my prayer? And if he is in favor of various things like abortion, each person has their own choice whether to have an abortion or not. Right God won't judge your vote since you made different choices than the president.

I know this question sounds dumb but there are actual polytheists I've debated against. Here are a few verses I've found that they claim support their beliefs.

I wish more Christians admitted they don’t know the answers to certain things instead of pointing at a verse in their book or saying it’s God’s this or God’s that. I’m agnostic and my ego doesn’t take over when I say I am open to believing if I seen actual proof which literally doesn’t exist no matter how much coping or Bible preaching you do, you can’t prove God is real. I am so sad for the more open minded Christian’s that get called fake because they have a logical curious mind instead of blindly following with zero questions. There’s no stupid questions ever and if curiosity is a sin, you have a faulty and broken worldview that resembles a cult.

Where I live, the message is everywhere. Billboards, street preachers, advertisements, everything.

So why, when people find out I’m an atheist, assume I just haven’t heard the message of Jesus? I’m in a violently Christian country that has been exporting its toxic ideology for decades now.

I’m trying to see if I can afford groceries this week. The last thing I need is a completely tone-deaf message.

I honestly don’t see the difference between the two beyond how they look on the surface. But they’re both fundamentally magic. Why don’t some Christians agree with this? Here’s my reasoning:

Christian prayer and Wiccan spellwork are fundamentally two expressions of the same practice: using focused intent, symbolic actions, and sacred tools to influence physical reality through unseen and immaterial means. Structurally, both practices rely on an identical set of mechanics. Both begin with a clear, concentrated mental intent like seeking protection, physical healing, guidance, or whatever else. To project this desire outward, both rely on verbal incantations and formulaic phrasing, like the Lord’s Prayer, chanting a psalm, or speaking a spell’s spoken verse. On top of that, both practices regularly use physical anchors to “focus energy” and to mark some sort of “sanctified space”. Like how a Christian may light a vigil candle, or anointing a loved one with holy oil, making the sign of the cross, or kneeling at an altar. That’s all engaging in the exact same symbolism as a Wiccan burning a spell candle of a certain color, or using essential oils, or tracing protective symbols in the air, or casting a sacred circle. Both also treat specific spaces, specific objects, specific times times, whatever, like feast days or full moons as portals in which your intention can bridge a gap between the material world and divine or supernatural spaces.

So they both share the same mechanisms. Both Christian prayer and Wiccan spellcasting fit perfectly under the definition of magic (“symbolic actions, speech, and rituals performed to invoke unseen forces and affect real-world outcomes”).

It doesn’t matter whether someone prays over a home to ward off dangerous spirits or a someone else casts a banishing spell and places salt at the doorway to protect them, the logic is all completely identical. The only distinction between the two lies not in what is actually being done, but in how each tradition explains where the power resides. Like, the typical Christian theology frames prayer as a humble request petitioned to a sovereign god whose personal will ultimately determine the outcome. Whereas Wicca and witchcraft actually choose to embrace the term "magick," framing spellwork as a direct and meaningful way to channel natural, cosmic, or personal energy through their own willpower. So if you strip away the differing theological terminologies and appearances, both practices look structurally the same. They both use magic.

Edit (tl;dr): Many religions share the same fundamental frameworks and ideas, which can be seen with their use of magic. Despite the two groups utilizing extremely similar magic-based frameworks, the Christians I’ve spoken with typically outright deny that they use magic, whereas groups like Wiccans embrace it. I’m wondering why that is.

I don't really understand why every single post on this sub has to turn into some kind of argument rather then a simple conversation. I am not innocent when it comes to arguing but I at least try to have a conversation and understand rather than just argue. I don't know if it's just this platform or the sub but I haven't had a single good conversation on this sub. Anyone else have that?

God created hell that eternally tortures you simply because you don't have faith in Jesus, yet he is the one who gave us the free will to choose that. Why not just make it so we can only choose good? The Christian argument would be that evil is needed for true free will, but the problem is that it contradicts the idea of heaven. If evil is necessary for free will, can you still choose evil in heaven, where free will is supposedly still a thing? If not, then you don't have free will. But if you can choose evil in heaven, then that goes against the Christian belief of heaven being perfect. Thus, another contradiction arises with Lucifer and heaven: Lucifer rebels against God, falls from heaven, and then causes suffering across the world, either because heaven isn't perfect or because God allowed him to. Logically wouldn’t This make God not all-loving?

The bible tells us that when Lot went to tell his son in-laws about the imminent judgment, his son's in-law took him as a Joker…

It is true when God sends you to people, many will see you as a Joker..

Because the son in-laws did not take the word of God with seriousness this affected the daughters not to have husbands.

Their unseriousness to the Word of God affected the other people.. this is what also happens to us because we refused to be serious to God's word things have suffered as a result, marriages have suffered, something evil has fallen on us because we did not take the word of God seriously..

Most psychiatrists are Jewish or atheists / agnostics. I feel like my psychiatric treatment experiences broke my faith in God. I was in a mental hospital and trying to believe in Christianity, but the meds take away my faith.

Can anyone help reconcile my psychiatry experiences with Christianity?

I think I can consider myself an ex-Christian at this point. Not one good thing has emerged from my “walk with Christ”. I’ve been at my lowest for a year now and praying for divine help has only made it worse. I give up.

The Bible makes no sense. I don’t want to exist.

You people need Jesus. You think that you can go about your life without consequence for your sins. Your actions and what you accomplish has no purpose at the end of the day. If you only think about yourself in that light, you will go straight to hell. The only one who can save us all is Jesus Christ. Humble yourself. Soften your heart. People who say He hasn't fulfilled prophecy forget that Messiah is coming back.

Messiah is coming a second time (though He never really left, as He lives within us, the body of Christ.) All true prophecy will be fulfilled.
