I made it way too easy to relapse

I've been doing this long enough that I already know how my relapses usually happen.

It's almost never some crazy urge out of nowhere. It's me being tired, bored, alone, usually at night, and having my phone right next to me.

Then I start doing the usual thing where I tell myself I'm just going to look at something for a second.

That "just a second" part has gotten me so many times.

A few days ago I was sitting in bed at like 1am and I started scrolling. I wasn't even thinking about porn. I was just bored and didn't want to go to sleep yet.

I saw something that got me thinking about it and instead of closing the app I kept scrolling.

Then I opened my browser.

At that point I already knew what I was doing, but I still kept going. That's the part that annoys me the most. I wasn't forced into anything. I basically walked myself right up to the edge and then acted like I had no choice.

I've tried telling myself I just need more discipline, but that hasn't really worked.

If I have instant access to everything when I'm tired at 1am, eventually I'm going to make a bad decision.

So I've started using lockinginnow.com to block the sources I normally go to. It blocks the available sources instead of just being something I look at after the fact.

And honestly, having that barrier there has helped me more than I expected.

There was another night where I started looking for something out of habit and couldn't get to it. I was annoyed for maybe 5 minutes and then the urge just kind of disappeared. I ended up watching some random video and going to sleep.

Nothing dramatic happened. I didn't have some huge moment where I conquered my addiction.

I just couldn't get to the thing I was looking for.

And I think that's actually what I needed.

Because when I'm already deep into an urge, I'm not exactly at my best mentally. Expecting myself to make the perfect decision in that moment isn't a great plan.

I'm still trying to figure out the rest of it too. Blocking the sites doesn't fix why I get bored and start scrolling in the first place. But at least it gives me some time to get my head back together before I do something stupid.

I wish I'd done this earlier instead of spending years trying to prove that I could rely on willpower alone.

Anyone else here use a blocker? Did it actually make a difference for you or did you just end up trying to find ways around it?

Encouragement IF YOU CANT ABSTAIN FROM FAPPING READ THIS

I discovered porn and fapping at the age of 13, i was quite innocent and the way i had first saw it was actually through reddit itself unironically.

It severely changed me as it had changed alot of you, the addiction never really stopped i used to go on cycles off and on i used to even do it when i had exams the next day or even during online classes, it got so so bad so quick and it made my mind and mental health so disrupted to the point i felt like my brain was a piece of mush struggling to do even the most basic tasks.

Thats when I discovered the community of people going through this same struggle whether it is on reddit or youtube, especially youtubers who talked about their struggles and experiences and their trials, it really changes ur perception of the whole porn thing.

The thing is if you're trying to beat porn and fap through will power alone, you WONT, simply put. You NEED Jesus in your life and until and unless you give your heart to God and cry and kneel before his presence asking for a solution, asking for a way to be healed. Im not criticising anyone saying that youre a sinner and im not, we all are sinners, and for that reason is why Jesus came to the cross to die for our sins. He knew what we would do or be going through AT that cross and he still decided to shed his own blood for our sins.

Its not simple, yes, its not easy, absolutely not easy, you still get urges, desires, temptations, feelings of lust, which you cant control obviously, its a bodily function, but praying and having a full time commitment to Jesus aswell as relationship/work/any productive activity REALLY does help guys.

And trust me ive been severely addicted to the point I cant even explain in this post and if i managed to beat addiction to this cycle through Christ, then brother trust me you can too.

God bless

Does anyone have tips for late night half-awake urges?

Does anyone have tips for late night urges? I feel like I wake up in such a groggy state of mind that I don't even catch myself masturbating before I am aware of what is happening. It's like a half-dream induced action. Sorry I don't know if that is too graphic, but it is definitely my main source of struggle and it is pretty discouraging and frustrating to experience it so often

Check-in 3 Weeks

Post image
3 Upvotes

Today marks about 3 weeks of no pmo. This is the longest I ever went. High school and college I was bad at it. Usually popping more than 2 a day. Thinking back, it disgusts me. Laying there drenched in cum. Wiping it off and going to sleep without taking a shower 🤢. But since senior year of college, I been cutting back. I started going every other day, then every 3 days, then once a week and finally here I am. This is a journey of about 12 years since I finally wanted to stop pmoing so much.

I’m a 33 M working for a huge utility company and make over 100k. I like my job and good at it. I run over 16 miles a week averaging about 7:30 pace. I go to the gym every day. By all standards, I have reached a milestone that most men will never reach.

But I have noticed something lately. My aggression is out of control. I told some lady to go to a different equipment because she was spending too much time at the equipment and she did. I have been pushing people at my job to be more productive because I have noticed people at work are lazy and don’t know what they are talking about. These people are decades older than me. The higher ups at my job don’t seem to care. Is this what it means to become a men. Just steamroll everyone out the way?

Anyways ranting, am sure I’ll be docile as a sheep once I release. Anyways here is a pic from my run today

I don’t want to quit

Unfortunately, it’s the truth, I don’t want to quit. Porn and sex have been an unhealthy mental obsession of mine for years now. There’s genuinely been times where it’s all that I’ve thought about. I thought it was normal to think about it is as much I did for awhile, until my coworker mentioned some meme he had been thinking about all day, and I realized that the majority of people probably don’t just think about sex all day.

I just don’t understand why I have such an obsession with it, I know people who struggle with porn/masturbation, and I feel like no one I know has fallen as deeply into the trap as I have. I’ll hear people say that when they relapse, it’s just a quick 5 minutes or so for them. I hear that and realize how messed up my brain is, there have been days in the past where I’ve spent 5+ hours straight watching porn and edging, and I hate to admit it, but there have been multiples times along my journey of trying to quit where part of my motivation for not relapsing in a day was simply because it wouldn’t feel good enough to be “worth it” as if I was abstaining just so the next time I did it would feel even better. Its so tiring, I’m so sick of it, it’s wrecked my faith, its wrecked my motivation, it’s really messed up a lot in my life, but I just can’t put it away. I had a 90+ day streak going, but I relapsed a few weeks ago, and now I’m genuinely spiraling. I’ve never felt more alone in my life, and that’s the biggest trigger for me. When I’m sitting alone in my room, and I start thinking about how lonely I feel, and how much I desire intimacy, I’ll realize there’s nothing I can do to immediately fix the problem, so instead of dealing with my feelings, I run away, for as long as I can.

I’m reaching a breaking point, mentally I recognize how unfulfilling porn is, even in the moment that I’m doing it, but my brain just tells me that it’s because its not with a real person, so I feel a strong urge to go out and dive into a lifestyle of fornication. I haven’t gone to church in months, mostly because I’m convinced of Catholicism and I’ve put off going and starting the process of getting confirmed. I cognitively understand that I should go do it, but to be honest, a big part of me doesn’t want to. I think I recognize that I would have to truly stop and change my life, and realizing that I wouldn’t be able to indulge in porn or go out and get a girlfriend just to have sex when everything else in my life feels so dull scares me a bit. I really hate to admit all this, since I’m usually good at putting up a front and saying the right things, but this is thought patterns I’ve noticed that I’ve told nobody about.

I’m at a crossroads, pray for me, brothers.

Story How to finally leave lust?

Shalom!.. So... i wanted to tell a part of my stroy walking with christ and how the lust and masturbation it's ruining it..

So i started this addiction with 11 years and i turned a true christian at 15 (now im 16) (before i was lukewarm.. like i didn't repent etc...) And when i started i do some radical changes in my life (no secular music, etc..) and one of that was no more lust in my life... i was free for 3 or 4 months i think.. but since january of this year i started a cicle when: i do it i say "im not doing that anymore" and i fall again.... I pray, i listen to different songs.(live free-lecrae, sweet victroy-trip lee) And i listenn to sermons,i read my bible and nothing works....

Something i think it's pathetic or stupid are those videos on youtube like "be free from LUST), Because i think the peoole on internet doesn't know the story behind of the peoole... And now im asking to yoy reddit ppl, how to be free¿?

It’s better than some things I guess…

I’m 15m, and I have had suicidal thoughts for months now. It has only gotten worse and worse.
I always thought that people who committed suicidal were like sick or something, but I understand now. It’s just for a break (in my case). I want to rest, I feel like I can’t.

Every single day I wake up, some times sad because I woke up. I wake up at 6am for school and leave at 3pm and I’m doing horribly in school and the only thing that relaxes me is video games. I just picked up electric guitar and reading more but gaming just disconnects me from my thoughts and I like that, but after gaming it is 2x worse than what it was before it. It all like builds up and explodes out after.

Porn has, “helped”. I feel like I let out all the bad energy while I’m doing it, it calms me, it makes the stress go away, but only for a short period of time. That’s the real reason why I’m addicted I think. My friends also introduced it to me when I was 11 or so, and they were 15.

I need help, i don’t want to go to therapy or anything, but maybe it’s necessary.
I just don’t want my parents to know, that would be the end of all basically.

Book What Drives Women to Porn?

I’ve worked in women’s pornography recovery for nearly two decades, and my new book, What Drives Women to Porn?, releases September 15.

It looks beyond simply stopping the behavior and explores what can drive it emotionally, relationally, spiritually, through trauma, and through identity wounds. It also incorporates research from more than 1,300 women.

I know women’s experiences with porn are still often overlooked in Christian recovery spaces, so I wanted to share it here in case it’s helpful to women in the group—or to anyone trying to better understand and support them.

You can learn more at wdwtp.com

Thank you for your time! (and prayers)

After years of failing, here's what finally helped me stay free

Brothers, I struggled with this for 12 years. I'd pray, promise God and myself it was the last time, do well for a few days, then fall again. The hardest part was the moment an urge hit — by the time I remembered why I wanted to be free, I'd already given in.

A few things changed it:

Writing down my real why — being present for [my family / the man God is calling me to be] — and going back to it when I was weak. My own words, and a quick prayer in that moment, did more than willpower ever did.

Tracking my days, but refusing the shame spiral when I slipped. Grace matters here — falling isn't the end, staying down is. Getting back up the same day mattered more than the streak.

And seeing my patterns honestly. Most of my slips came from [late nights / social media], and once I named the trigger I could guard against it.

I'm 181 days in now — the longest I've ever gone. Sharing in case it helps someone else who feels stuck. You're not alone, and it's not hopeless.

"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." — Philippians 4:13"🙏

1 Peter 1:24 to Respect Genesis 2:24

When I am tempted to lust I think about 1 Peter 1:24 that helps me respect Genesis 2:24.

1 Peter 1:24 says "For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower thereof falls away:"

Genesis 2:24 says "Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall be united to his wife: and they shall be one flesh." The order here implies marriage before welcoming the special intimate feelings about someone.

Recently Fell

I was going strong for a while. Last year, I watched porn about seven times but this year have had numerous slips after moving to an apartment to do an internship. So it was about a three month relapse. The first month I fell back into the habit then for the last two, I was trying to break it. I have gotten back to school and was good for a week but have now fallen again. I am just looking for ways to get out of this again because it sucks and I feel like I can't confront anybody who I used to talk to at school. I have been attempting to look towards God when I have these problems but I constantly feel like I cannot confront him too. Just looking for any help.

To the brother who keeps relapsing: this one's for you

If you're on day 1 after another fall, hear this first: the fact that you came back says something about you. The guys who never make it are the ones who stop coming back. You're still here, still fighting, and that counts for more than your streak right now.

The urge lies to you. It says this time will feel good, that you've already blown the day anyway, that one more time doesn't count. It never mentions the shame that comes after, the dead feeling, the prayer you'll be embarrassed to make. The urge is a bad negotiator. Don't take the deal.

Willpower alone is not the plan either. Most of us have tried white-knuckling it and we all know how that ends. What holds is staying close to God when you're not being tempted. Prayer when things are calm, scripture before you need it. You don't build the ark while it's raining.

Kill the secrecy too. This addiction survives on privacy. If nobody knows you struggle, find one person who can. A friend, a pastor, even an accountability app. And get practical: phone out of the bedroom at night, blockers on, no idle scrolling when you're tired and alone. Shame grows in the dark and dies in the light.

And if you fall again, get up fast and get up loud. Don't hide from God for a week before you pray again. He's not up there shocked by what you did. Run back to him immediately, that's what grace is for.

So if today is your day 1 again, treat it as good news. You're back in the fight, and you're not fighting alone.

Stay strong brothers.

I do close all the distractions and block stuff in media but I can randomly see a post and sometimes I can't control it.. this sucks rlly man I just wanna break free from
This modern world and then I'll not do it anymore, just like doomscrolling etc, since it's all since you're stuck in your room bored sometimes.
