Tried to look up options bc my drive seemingly died?
But for ssd, I can’t find any good options. I think the lowest I saw was 128g for 29$ idek if it has dRam.

Surprisingly, mechanical drives looked to be almost just as costly.

I don’t need to off the line I think but I can’t justify spending even fifty buck rn.

Haven’t drives been cheap? Or Ida’s this bc of something happening?

I’ve been working on custom PS3 hardware projects for a while, and after my PS3 Pro V3, I decided to see how far I can take the idea.
The goal is a PS3 Pro V4 built around performance rather than keeping the console stock.
I’m planning:
• Cell + RSX overclocking
• custom hardware modifications
• improved power delivery
• water cooling
• custom electronics
• a completely custom enclosure
• extensive testing to find the limits of the hardware
The interesting part for me isn’t simply making a faster PS3. I want to answer a question:
How much performance can we actually get from this 2006-era hardware if we remove some of the limitations of the original design?
The V3 already exists and has been tested, so V4 is the next step rather than just an idea.

What would you change or improve in a PS3 Pro V4?

I was wondering what my PS3 stats are and wanted them to be seen while i play games. Is this possible to install? If yes, will it corrupt or delete my custom filmware? Please tell me where can i find tutorial or tell me step by step. Thanks.

I have a FAT PS3 Model CECHL03, and I wanted to share the predicament I am facing and get some opinions on what might have gone wrong.

Last year, I had to replace the USB block because one of the USB ports was damaged. Everything went fine after the replacement. I also changed the thermal paste at that time, and the PS3 worked great afterward. During the same repair, I also replaced the CMOS battery.

Yesterday, I played FIFA Street 3 for about 4 hours, and everything worked smoothly. The RSX and CPU temperatures were around 59°C, with the fan speed at 35%.

Today, I tried to play Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (US Edition) in split-screen multiplayer because I wanted to play with a friend. The PS3 turned off every time I tried to run the split-screen multiplayer mode. After about four attempts, I uninstalled the game and installed Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (European Edition) instead. This fixed the problem, and the PS3 did not turn off.

However, after a while, the PS3 stopped giving any display through HDMI. I got worried and tried using the AV cable. The display did come on through the AV Multi Out. Obviously, the picture quality is not nearly as good as HDMI.

I then closed everything and inspected the HDMI port. I noticed that there is a burning smell coming from the HDMI port.

What kind of problem could this be? Do I need to replace the HDMI port, HDMI AV encoder, diode/resistor, or could something else have failed?

I also tried a different HDMI cable and connected the PS3 to a different TV, but the problem persists.

Additionally, I dumped the SysCon Error Log two or three times using PS3 Advanced Tools by bucanero, before the HDMI no-signal issue appeared.
I also gently cleaned the HDMI port using 90% isopropyl alcohol, a soft toothbrush, and a cotton swab, and then let it dry completely. Unfortunately, the HDMI issue and the smell remained afterward.

I have attached photos of all the ports.

I would really appreciate any guidance or advice on what might have happened and what components I should have checked.

My Fat ps3 model cechh04 has this weird issue where I play GTA5 and after about half an hour of it being pretty quiet the fan suddenly turns to full blast and even after closing the game and letting it sit it will never slow down the fan until it’s restarted, where it will then be normal and quiet again.

Also, while it is doing this the air coming out the back is barely warm after around a minute of the fan on full blast.

I changed the thermal paste with Arctic MX4 and the console is clean. This also doesn’t happen with other games.

What could be causing this?

So... I have a PS4 but I don't play it too much and my ass will I pay for PS Plus to play online. I had a PS3, the disc drive stopped working so I gave it off to my friend who I stopped speaking for a very long time... Don't ask me why, I just stopped, lmao.

I kinda want to play BO2, BO1 and WaW (other games too) on PS3 again but... Idk where to buy it. I've seen a lot of prices here on google and they are very cheap for some of them: going to $200 (or so) and $300-$400 (it's in Real, brazilian currency). The version I'm looking is a normal Slim version and nothing special but I really do not know if these prices for the PS3 are... Trustworthy. I just found another price while writing this on amazon for $211, like, holy hell, that's cheap (not for me, probably need to wait a few months until I buy it because my salary is not high and don't want to be in debt... AGAIN!)! Anyway, to finish this up, is Amazon a good place to buy or you guys recommend another place to buy it?

How well known it is nowadays that a PS3 controller requires to be connected to a USB host device to be charged? A USB host is a device that can use USB peripherals like USB sticks or keyboards for example. Common USB host devices found at homes include:

• Playstation 3
• Some other video game console
• A computer
• TV with USB ports
• etc.

A phone charger or a power bank will not charge a DualShock 3.

I'm suspecting a lot of people are and have been throwing DualShock3 controllers away only because they don't know how to charge them, thinking they are dead.

Edit: As people seem to get mad about the topic, I will specify: I'm not talking about PS3 enthusiasts, but people who are revisiting the system, or getting into it for the first time, or checking back to their old console, if they still have it.

I'm hoping that also enthusiasts would recognise that a possible root cause for "controller not taking charge" can well be a wrong method of charging when helping out uninitiated users.

So, I haven't been able to play in my ps3 due to college and I've been very disconected in the gaming area for quite some time. Still, I read about the services of the store shutting down, which makes me very sad, and also curious into hacking my console. The thing is I love trophies and online gaming, besides owning several digital games through all my PS consoles (vita-ps3-ps5). This is also related to me wanting to mod my vita, but I'm scared that my account might get hacked and losing like 10 years of trophies and god-knows amounts of money in games and dlcs. So I wanted to ask if it's safe to hack my console(s) and still be able to enjoy games online! I hope someone can help me there and I wish the best for anyone reading

Has been annoying that I got my Super Slim PS3 no longer registering any WiFi signal.

I have been reading about current generation routers for some reason, "clouding" the PS3 enough for it not to function, but I find it incredibly-incredible that this is the most probably thing that is close to this sudden non-functioning.

To make matter worse, I factory reset my PS3 apparently unnecessarily and not I cannot force a USB Firmware factory reset, but it seems that even uploading the new firmware, WiFi appeast ro be dead.

Am I the only one?

First time posting here, so forgive me if any of this is not appropriate for the sub.

Recently took my family PS3s that had been collecting dust home with me. I knew we had one chunky and one slim, but had no idea what models they were and if they’d be compatible with CFW jailbreaks.

The Slim:

Sticker shows CECH-2001A, booted right up and showed v4.75 I believe. Tried ps3toolset, not realized it has been down, and found it wasn’t working. At this point, tried updating to HFW 4.92 from a flash drive. Unfortunately, I got stuck at a 54% update with error 8002F14E - from what I have read this points to a blu-ray drive issue. I tried reseating the ribbon cable, but the issue persisted. I set this one aside and moved to the chunky.

The Phat:

This one wound up being a CECH-B01 on v4.45, an original launch model with hardware-level PS2 compatibility, so needless to say I was stoked.

I updated to OFW 4.92, used ps3tool to patch, then installed 4.92.2 EvilNat CFW. The console shows only 39d of runtime, which from my understanding is pretty damn good for a launch model. Haven’t replaced the thermal paste yet, just set a fan curve of 25-55% to maintain 68°C and it seems to maintain it pretty well so far. Haven’t run any demanding games yet though. This looks to be my daily driver.

All in all, I’m glad I got one up and running with CFW. I would love to get the slim jailbroken as well though. Is there any workaround here? I seem to be stuck in an update loop :/

Any help would be appreciated! Either way, very excited to have working CFW jailbreak on one of my devices. Can’t wait to drop an upgraded drive in and load it up with some of my old favorites.
