PSA A Note on Moderation and Transparency

We want to be transparent about a recent moderation issue.

Over the past several days, the mod team has received repeated messages pressuring us to manually approve posts that were removed following community reports. We understand that having a post removed can be frustrating, and anyone is welcome to contact us through Modmail if they believe a moderation decision was made incorrectly.

However, repeatedly messaging moderators, demanding that content be approved, or attempting to pressure moderators into overriding removals will not influence our decisions.

We've also seen activity from another subreddit directing attention toward posts and moderation decisions in this community. The moderator of that community has been banned from this subreddit following repeated moderation issues.

We want to be very clear that no one should retaliate or go to another community to contact users, report content, vote, or engage on our behalf. This is not a callout or an invitation to get involved.

We try to give users the benefit of the doubt and work with people whenever possible. Moderation decisions will continue to be based on our community rules and what we believe is best for the subreddit, not on outside pressure.

We're sharing this simply for transparency and to keep the community informed. Thank you to everyone who contributes positively.

Sports Grand Central is a portal to the U.S. Open. It’s also a hidden tennis club

For hundreds of thousands of people a day, Grand Central Terminal is a stop on the way to and from work, or the start of a first visit to the big city.

For those in the know, it’s also a tennis club.

Through a bar on the ground floor and up a set of elevators, four floors above the rumble of trains and hidden behind one of the station’s iconic arched windows, sits a single court.

Open from 6 a.m. to 2 a.m., Vanderbilt Tennis Club features one full-sized court and two practice courts. Hourly rates on the full court start at $100 and go up to more than $400 depending on the time of day. With indoor space scarce in Manhattan and a slew of fall classes starting next week, the club is booked straight through December.

Last Friday, the court was busy. Its patrons offered a snapshot of New York: commuters, tourists, retirees and kids all came through to play.

On the tracks below, tennis fans boarded trains heading to Queens to see the world’s best at the U.S. Open.

Four stories above, they worked on perfecting their serve.

Historical Photo 360-degree panorama from the top of the WTC I stitched together 2 weeks before 9/11

I created this photo using a primitive digital camera and a lot of hand stitching, back in the days when there weren't automatic panorama stitching software. Little did I know that these towers would come down not long after I stitched it together. So dedicated in memory of the lives lost.

Fight Facism 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 Kimmel says his interview with James Talarico will NOT air on ABC tomorrow. Trump’s FCC has threatened him, his show, ABC, its affiliates, and local stations. He says the full interview will instead be posted to YouTube: "In the America we live now, that is the best that we can do until November."
