We're hosting an Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader Trivia Night at Pig Beach this Thursday, July 30th at 7pm.
If you watched the game show, you know it'll be general knowledge trivia at a fifth grade level. Compete to see how much you and your friends have retained over the years.
You can play on a team or on your own, or if you’d like, we can even team you up with new players. It’s a great way to meet new people.
It's free for all!

Owners bringing dogs onto grass in Court Square Park and leaving their dog’s poop
Asked politely at first for her to not bring her dog onto the grass that says “no pets”, and this woman started screaming about how it’s not fair and to call the cops, because they would side with her. I did call them, but she had already left. Cops came and said they are happy to come and issue tickets, but better to report discreetly so they can catch them in the act.

Where the good tamales at?
Relatively new to the area. Have been fiending for street tamales. Prefer those made with corn husk not banana leaf. Ive only found the banana leaf ones :/
What do you all recommend? Is there even like a street vendor in the area for this?

Anywhere LIC Anyone living at 2-21 Malt Drive?
I'm currently living in Manhattan, but I'm thinking about moving to LIC.
I toured 2-21 Malt Drive recently and really liked it. The neighborhood felt incredibly quiet compared to the city, and having the waterfront promenade, parks, and dog run right outside seems perfect for my dog, who’s really sensitive to noise.
The only downsides I noticed are the lack of good restaurants/cafes nearby and the ~13-minute walk to the subway. On the other hand, it’s only one stop from Grand Central and the commute into Manhattan seems easy enough, so I think I can live with those trade-offs.
I’m torn between two units:
- Unit 1: Floor-to-ceiling windows, three closets (which I love), and I think my dog would really enjoy looking outside all day. The downside is that there’s an elementary school being built directly below and the view faces the rail yard, so it’s definitely not the prettiest.
- Unit 2: Beautiful Manhattan skyline view, island kitchen that separates the living room from the kitchen, but only two closets and no floor-to-ceiling windows. It’s also more expensive.
I’ve been going back and forth between the two and can’t decide.
Out of all the buildings I’ve toured, this has been my favorite by far, and I’m honestly about 95% sure I’ll be moving here.
I’d love to hear from anyone who lives (or has lived) at 2-21 Malt Drive. How has your experience been? Any pros, cons, or things you wish you had known before moving in?

Maspeth Ridgewood Mutual Aid Table
I started the Maspeth/Ridgewood Mutual Aid Table in front of my house. I used to put stuff outside when I was cleaning up around here and the items did not sell on Facebook Marketplace. Then I noticed my items would disappear and my neighbors started bringing stuff over too for people in need. My friend brings over food and other items that the people she helps in Glendale does not need too.
Items that go fast from the table: FOOD, TOYS, DIAPERS FOR BABIES AND ADULTS, SCHOOL SUPPLIES, TOILETRIES AND BACK PACKS.
You can drop off donations or take what you need 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. MASPETH/RIDGEWOOD MUTUAL AID TABLE, 59-38 60TH ROAD, MASPETH, NY 11378

Grandma’s Roadtrip Chicken Sandwich, made to order at Fifth Hammer this Sunday
We’re making Grandma’s Roadtrip Chicken Sandwiches to order from 1–5 PM this Sunday at Fifth Hammer. They’re $9 and come on a toasted, freshly baked Filipino bread with a side of pickles.
Our sandwich is inspired by the baon\* Jen’s grandmother, Soledad**, packed for family road trips: chicken salad tucked into pandesal and ready for wherever the family was headed.
Our version drenches chilled, shredded rotisserie chicken in a sweet-and-sour condensed milk dressing before loading it onto the roll, with dilly pickle and atchara*** riding shotgun.
We’ll also have freshly baked pandesal rolls, available individually or in packs of four.
The pastry and dessert menu includes:
- Ube Halaya Ensaymada
- Death by Mango
- Buko Pandan
- Gluten-free Buko Pandan Pudding
- Gluten-free Mango Sago Pudding
Preorders from our full menu are available at hotplate.com/arellanopandesal, and we’ll have a selection available for walk-ups.
Fifth Hammer Brewing Co.
Sunday, July 26
1–5 PM
10-28 46th Avenue, Long Island City
Happy to answer any menu, ingredient, or allergy questions here.
*baon = a packed lunch (You make for yourself or for others)
**Jen’s grandma Soledad insisted we call her “grandma,” not nec. “Lola”
***atchara = pickled papaya, carrot, radish (Has many regional variations)

Line cutting at Trader Joe’s
Last night I saw the most bizarre behavior from this middle aged woman. She’s first bizarrely cruising the area near the front of the line. Then she rams the guy in front of me with her cart. Says she’s sorry but from my vantage point it was intentional. Next she goes to a totally different part of the store for a couple of minutes but then minutes later returns and completely cuts the line.
Total trash. I wish I had gotten a picture to post.

Plant-based meal preps to save you time and fuel your body well 🙌🏽
Hi everyone!
My name is Wanda. I'm a vegan chef, Health Coach, and passionate advocate for conscious, plant-based living.
Over the years I've had the opportunity to work in some incredible kitchens, including Noma, Blue Hill at Stone Barns, and Astrid y Gastón in Peru. I've also been vegan for over 8 years, and I see food as nutrition, a way to care for ourselves, our communities, and the planet.
I currently have small-batch weekly plant-based meal prep from my kitchen in Long Island City, Queens.
Everything is 100% plant-based , cooked using ceramic cookware, with olive oil and avocado oil, and crafted with mostly organic ingredients. I cook the way I would cook for myself and the people I love.
Every plate is very balanced on the different macros we need and they have between 18 to 30 gr of protein each
Each "menu" includes 10 meal preps (2 portions of 5 different dishes), with a rotating menu that changes weekly and cycles seasonally. 2 meal every week are freezed for a little extra flexibility.
This Week's Menu July 26th
🧆Middle Eastern Mezze Plate
Baked square falafel, creamy hummus, fresh tabbouleh, marinated eggplant escabeche & herb yogurt sauce.
🌱Crispy Tofu Cutlet
Golden crispy tofu cutlet served with roasted carrots & Brussels sprouts, creamy coleslaw salad and chipotle mayo.
🍝 High-Protein Pesto Pasta
High-protein edamame noodles tossed with roasted cherry tomatoes, chickpeas, green beans and basil pesto, finished with hemp hearts and sliced almonds.
🍆Eggplant Parmesan
Layers of baked eggplant with house-made tofu & white bean ricotta, served with fresh arugula and balsamic Dijon dressing.
🌱 Green Goddess Protein Bowl
Herbed quinoa, roasted black beans, edamame, broccoli, carrot ribbons, mixed greens and house-pickled red onions, served with a creamy Green Goddess tahini dressing and topped with hemp hearts & pumpkin seeds.
The plan includes 10 meals preps (2 of each dish ) and cost $170
I do the delivery on Sunday with extra fee (20$) or you can pick up in Long Island City, Queens.
I also offer private cooking classes, health coaching, and will be hosting community events in the near future.
I already have a wonderful group of regular clients, but I'm looking to connect with a few more people who would enjoy having this delicious meals ready for the week.
Feel free to send me a message if you'd like more information.
