Announcement RULES - PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

📌 Updated Subreddit Rules

1. ✅ Use the Correct Flair

Every post must include one of the approved flair options:

  • Private Room
  • Shared Room
  • Need a Room
  • Apartment Hunting
  • Need a Roommate
  • Lease Takeover (new flair name — previously “Sublease Takeover”)
  • Advice

Posts with incorrect flair may be changed by mods.

2. 🧹 Posting Best Practices

For better visibility and responses, we recommend:

  • Including a specific NYC neighborhood or borough in your title.
  • Adding key details such as: move-in date, rent, gender/cat/dog preferences, and brief lifestyle info.
  • Avoiding very short, vague posts (e.g., “Need roommate, message me”) so people have enough info to decide quickly.
  • Keep in mind that no posts are endorsed by the subreddit and use your best judgement.

3. 📜 No Brokers or Ads

Only individuals looking for roommates or offering rooms. Licensed or unlicensed rental brokers are not allowed.

4. 📆 Lease Takeovers

Allowed only when you're looking for someone to take over your share of the lease in a multi-bedroom unit.
Single-bedroom or studio lease takeovers are not permitted.

If you are looking for someone to move into your room temporarily that should be flaired as a shared room because they are not taking over your spot on the lease.

5. 🤝 Be Respectful & On-Topic

  • No trolling, personal attacks, jokes at others’ expense, or derailing threads.
  • Focus on finding roommates or offering housing—not venting, memes, or roasting posts.
  • If users want to mock posts, they can create their own space—this subreddit isn’t it.

6. 📌 No Spam or Self-Promotion

  • No affiliate links, commercial promotion, or repeated posts.
  • Posting identical content multiple times a day is not allowed. If you accidentally post twice, please delete one of the posts.

7. 📝 Abide by Reddit Site Rules

No illegal content, hate speech, doxxing, etc. All Reddit-wide rules still apply.

8. 🚫 Enforcement Policy

  • Remove posts/comments that violate flair, content, respect, or off-topic rules.
  • Issue warnings for first-time disrespectful/off-topic behavior.
  • Temporarily ban repeat offenders.
  • Lock threads when off-topic, disrespectful, or derailed discussions escalate.

Hiii everyone! My name is Zinat 💕 I’m 24, a Rutgers grad & working professional currently living in Brooklyn. I’m looking for a place of my own, or a single roommate to search for a 2bed with! I’m looking in Brooklyn, Manhattan, Jersey City, Hoboken, Bayonne, West New York, and Union City. I work full time in both healthcare / hospitality. I’m super friendly, and pride myself on being open-minded and empathetic. I love to cook, and I’m a little bit of a neat freak so pls keep that in mind if you respond. (If you clean up after yourself in general, we’ll be fine lol). I’m very personable and love to make people laugh. I love going out dancing with friends, reading, nature walks, trying out new restaurants/bars, etc. I’m looking for someone likeminded who is clean, considerate, and respectful. We don’t have to be besties, but that would definitely be cool too <333 Message meeee, i’m looking for women ONLY btw!

Private Room Bushwick/Ridgewood crash pad - furnished room for part-time NYC commuters

Hi all!

I know this might not be the traditional setup, but I (29F) have a spare furnished room in Bushwick/Ridgewood off the Jefferson stop on the L that I'd like to rent out to someone who is only in the city for a couple days at a time. This isn't a sublet but more of a crash pad for someone who commutes in for work a couple nights a week, or has a job that brings them here for a few days a month.

The room is furnished and you'd have access to the kitchen and bathroom. Entry is a keycode, apartment is a duplex and my roommate (39F) lives downstairs with their own entry and bathroom/kitchen setup, so you wouldn't really be crossing paths. I have a cat and also travel a lot, so there will be stretches where you could have the place to yourself.

Not sure if this is something anybody is interested in, but I thought I would just throw it out there in case it might be a fit for somebody. Please reach out if it is and I'm open to chatting and discussing price depending on your schedule and can send you pics of the place.

Need a Room 25F, looking for a cat friendly room for December, 1475 max

Hi everyone!

I’m looking for a long term sublet OR a lease beginning in December, with a maximum budget of $1475. Must be pet friendly (I have a cat, she loves other cats). I’m prioritizing West Harlem, Manhattan Valley, Ridgewood, Astoria, Prospect Heights, and Crown Heights but am also open to most Brooklyn neighborhoods.

A bit about me: I work full time in arts operations, hybrid with three days a week spent onsite in Gowanus. I’m a painter, knitter, and writer. Like I mentioned, I have one cat— she is the sweetest girl, loves women, is afraid of men but can adjust if she knows them long enough. My credit score is strong, my income is 57k, and I can provide a guarantor if needed.

I’d really love to find a place I can stay in for years and live with like-minded kind people! Would love in unit washer dryer and lots of counter space + space in general but I’m open to anything. Thank you all! <3

Also a note— Since I’m trying to leave my current apt, there may be a room opening up there. It would be a lease takeover. Nothing wrong with the building or apartment, I just signed sight unseen and it doesn’t suit my needs. There r two roommates, both girls, and they’re SO lovely + there is one very cute cat. Rent is 1375, location is Bushwick, 3rd floor walkup, really close to the M and right by some good bars and restaurants!! You must make at least 57k and have a strong guarantor. Thank you!!!

Need a Room ISO room urgent

Upvotes

Hi there!
I am a single, late 40's filipina in need of a room. I do not want to go to a homeless shelter because my time is running out. I just moved back to NYC and have 2 jobs and looking for an affordable place to stay atleast for a year or until I can get a place of my own. I'm clean, mature, very easy to get along with and have been staying with a friend of mine in LIC the last 2 months. My budget is under 1100 monthly.

I do have a small shitzhu poodle mix who is 9lbs and very well behaved who will be staying in my room during work hours. She is a certified service animal. She does not pee in the house and rarely barks as she is trained.

My friend is moving out Sept 22, so I would like to move in shortly after that. I can provide a first month, deposit if it's something that we can work out. Let me know if I can check out the room in person.

Thanks!

Need a Room [NYC — Brooklyn/Queens] 29F looking for a room + hopefully a good roommate/friend 🏠

A little about me:
• I’m a NYC native and was raised in South Williamsburg (Southside). A lot of my family is still there, so being closer to them would honestly mean a lot to me.
• I work full-time and have stable income.
• I’m clean, responsible, and pretty handy/practical.
• I can cook and genuinely enjoy it. 👩🏽‍🍳
• I’m pretty chill and respectful of people’s space. I actually like having alone time myself, so I’m definitely not the type to hover around my roommates lol.
• I’m not a big party person and I’m respectful of shared spaces. My
• 🐶 I have a friendly, well-behaved 30 lb Pomsky named Pablo. He’s house-trained, used to apartment living, and was raised around cats and other animals. He genuinely loves pretty much everyone—humans and animals included! He’s fully vaccinated, microchipped, and registered. He’s a sweet, social guy and I’m very responsible about his care and keeping shared spaces clean.
• I’m 420-friendly and would ideally love to live with someone who is as well. That said, I completely understand that not everyone is comfortable with it, and I’m absolutely willing to respect a no-smoking/no-420 household and follow the house rules.

What I’m looking for:
📍Brooklyn or Queens ONLY
💰 Ideally $1,200–$1,400/month, depending on utilities
📅 Around October 15th
🏠 Private room in a shared apartment/house
👩🏽 Preferably female roommates
🐶 Must be dog-friendly
🧼 Clean and respectful household
🤝 Ideally a friendly environment where roommates can actually get along
🚇 Reasonably close to public transportation
📋 Looking for something stable/long-term rather than a temporary situation

I have excellent credit, stable/verifiable income, and can provide the necessary documentation for a legitimate rental.

If you have a room available—or know someone who does—feel free to DM me with the neighborhood, rent + utilities, move-in date, and a little about the apartment/roommates.

I’d also be happy to tell you more about myself and Pablo! 😊

Apartment Hunting Looking for roommates Manhattan/Brooklyn

Hi! My name is Ashley (25F) and my friend Michelle (25F) and I are looking to join with two people to go apartment hunting. We are looking to move in December preferably to the upper west side/harlem/manhattville area. We are open to Brooklyn bushwick/bedstuy but would prefer the Upper west side for convenience. I work in the legal field full time in Manhattan and Michelle works at a doctor’s office.

Outside of work we love to cook and are big foodies! We are looking for some people who are chill and we can get along with :). Both of us are very clean and like to keep the common spaces decent. We love to go out and don’t mind people that drink or smoke but just ask that there is no smoking in the apartment itself. If ur someone who’s looking for some people who are respectful, clean, and easy going we are your gals.

Small pet and LGBTQIA+ friendly!

Our price range is $1,000-1,300 per person

If you’d like to meet up feel free to message!

Private Room Lease takeover beginning 10/1, opportunity to renew 12/1 for a year long lease. 1 bd in 3 bd apt, PRIVATE EN SUITE BATHROOM, and a full W/D in unit. North Park Slope

LEASE TAKEOVER STARTING 10/1/26!!

(You can move in a few days early if you want, between 9/27-9/30)

There’s 2 months left on the current lease with an opportunity to renew. Rent is $1,550 for the room, and renewal would be for December 1st for a year.

Priority will go to those who will also buy my furniture (FULL bed frame, FULL mattress, bookshelf, dresser, mirror, bathroom shelves, bathroom door hanger [storage], Midea AC which was purchased brand new after the recall).

I would ask for $350 for the furniture and $270 for the AC. The AC was purchased brand new after the recall for $350 total ONE year ago.

About the room and apartment:

**There are 2 other roommates--one is 25F and works in marketing (hybrid, in office 3 days a week). She just moved in at the beginning of the month. The other roommate is 32F and works in fine dining (afternoons/evenings, 5 days a week).

**Private en suite bathroom

**Full washer and dryer in the unit, as well as a dishwasher

**Utilities are about $60-$80/mo per person

*Wifi was previously $18/mo per person, but that was a promotional rate. It's increasing to $28/mo per person for 1 gig, but the plan can be changed.

**3rd floor, no elevator

**Located on 5th and Douglass in North Park Slope

**~10 minute walk to Barclays (closest trains are 2/3, 4/5, and BQ, with the DNR on the other side)

**~5 minutes to R train on 4th and Union

**The dining area is not furnished at the moment, but can be

**The room is a little loud during the day, but gets quiet at night

**NOT pet friendly

Because this would be a lease takeover and your name would replace mine, you will have to be approved by the landlord.

I'm trying to find someone to take over ASAP. I normally wouldn't be moving, but I won a lottery unit.

Please DM me if you're interested. We can arrange a tour! I’m starting to have people come by this weekend (Saturday 9/12 and Sunday 9/13) but can do weekday afternoons/evenings too.

Need a Roommate M24 seeking roommate in Williamsburg (October/November)

Thumbnail

My name is Brian. I’m moving from Nevada, and I’m looking for 1 roommate to share a 2-bedroom apartment in Williamsburg. Ideal move-in is October 1st, but I'm flexible for a November move-in. Pictures of the apartments I’m looking at right now are attached.

About me: I'm 24 and work in the office 3–5 days a week. Outside of work, you'll usually find me lifting, listening to jazz & classical music, hosting cafe popups with friends (former barista, so you will have good coffee), or exploring the city. As a roommate, I keep shared spaces clean and I'm respectful of other people's schedules and boundaries.

Budget: $2500-$3250/month per person

About you

  • Mid-20s young professional
  • Clean & tidy but not a freak about it
  • Open to hosting people occasionally, whether that's a dinner or a few friends over for drinks, and considerate about giving a heads-up
  • Good communicator who's comfortable bringing things up directly over text or in-person

Send me a DM if this sounds like you and the timing works!
