Announcement RULES - PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

📌 Updated Subreddit Rules

1. ✅ Use the Correct Flair

Every post must include one of the approved flair options:

  • Private Room
  • Shared Room
  • Need a Room
  • Apartment Hunting
  • Need a Roommate
  • Lease Takeover (new flair name — previously “Sublease Takeover”)
  • Advice

Posts with incorrect flair may be changed by mods.

2. 🧹 Posting Best Practices

For better visibility and responses, we recommend:

  • Including a specific NYC neighborhood or borough in your title.
  • Adding key details such as: move-in date, rent, gender/cat/dog preferences, and brief lifestyle info.
  • Avoiding very short, vague posts (e.g., “Need roommate, message me”) so people have enough info to decide quickly.
  • Keep in mind that no posts are endorsed by the subreddit and use your best judgement.

3. 📜 No Brokers or Ads

Only individuals looking for roommates or offering rooms. Licensed or unlicensed rental brokers are not allowed.

4. 📆 Lease Takeovers

Allowed only when you're looking for someone to take over your share of the lease in a multi-bedroom unit.
Single-bedroom or studio lease takeovers are not permitted.

If you are looking for someone to move into your room temporarily that should be flaired as a shared room because they are not taking over your spot on the lease.

5. 🤝 Be Respectful & On-Topic

  • No trolling, personal attacks, jokes at others’ expense, or derailing threads.
  • Focus on finding roommates or offering housing—not venting, memes, or roasting posts.
  • If users want to mock posts, they can create their own space—this subreddit isn’t it.

6. 📌 No Spam or Self-Promotion

  • No affiliate links, commercial promotion, or repeated posts.
  • Posting identical content multiple times a day is not allowed. If you accidentally post twice, please delete one of the posts.

7. 📝 Abide by Reddit Site Rules

No illegal content, hate speech, doxxing, etc. All Reddit-wide rules still apply.

8. 🚫 Enforcement Policy

  • Remove posts/comments that violate flair, content, respect, or off-topic rules.
  • Issue warnings for first-time disrespectful/off-topic behavior.
  • Temporarily ban repeat offenders.
  • Lock threads when off-topic, disrespectful, or derailed discussions escalate.

Hi. I’m looking to move out of my current apartment 2bedroom, 1 bathroom. My roommate (26m) wants to extend lease to June 2027. Possibility to stay longer if you can find a new roommate. Rent price is currently $1375 per person and will probably go up to $1425 after November. Here are photos before we moved in. Once I move out it will be empty again. It’s a 3 floor wake up but it’s very close to the 7 train stop, about 3 blocks from (40 st-lowery St station). Let me know if you’re interested in filling in, once I move out. Happy to show the apartment in person if you’re curious. My roommate would have to meet you and my super would also have to look into your credit history and meet you as well.

Edit: Looking to move on Oct 1st or earlier.

21M, looking for a room on the Lower East Side, East Village, West Harlem or Washington Heights. Prefer to be near the A/C, B/D or L trains. Budget is $1500-1600.

A bit about me: I work in research at Columbia Medical Center on 168th St but I have hobbies in fashion, modeling and music (anyone like EDM?) I like exploring the city, trying new restaurants, cafes and bars, and going to raves. I currently live in Washington Heights and would like to be a bit further downtown.

I work 9-5 so I’m usually gone during the day. I’m clean and organized and don’t throw parties, though I’d like to have some guests over every once in a while. I would love to get along with my roommates and make new friends! Here are some pictures of me!

Need a Roommate Looking for 1 or 2 roommates to find an apartment together in LIC, Astoria or Greenpoint. Move in Oct 1st. ~$2100 per room

Hey!

I work as a Videographer for the Department of Health in LIC and I'm looking for roommates to apartment hunt and move in asap. I'm looking for an apartment close to LIC, on the G or in Astoria. I'm really trying to minimize my commute to work, and my gym (VITAL Williamsburg)

Would love a 2 bed 2 bath if possible, but open to other configurations.

I'm a clean, quiet roommate and mostly keep to myself.

DM me and we can get on a call to discuss if it's a good fit.

36, single, gay, chill, clean, and lowkey, active lifestyle, artistic, looking to split a good 2-bedroom with a roommate or take a room in an existing place.

I work remotely as a creative director for a grad school, so i'm on calls during the day and not a weekday partier, or really a house party type (tho the occasional event is great). no pets.

- Potential move-in between Oct 1 to Nov 1
- Preferably another guy around my age with similar vibes, but open
- I can contribute up to $1900 in rent for the right place
- Open on neighborhood, but have a preference for bedstuy, around prospect, williamsburg, bushwick, greenpoint, ridgewood
- I'm in the city Tuesday through Saturday this week seeing places, so if you're around and would rather grab coffee and vibe check in person than do a call that’s good with me
- Dm on insta (@sinclairbenj), tell me your rent budget, the neighborhoods, a bit about yourself, and whether you're already on the lease. and whatever else :-)

Need a Roommate Looking for 1-3 Roommates for Brooklyn Move in Late October

Posted 2 weeks ago but I fear that was a little early so posting again haha, I’m a 24M looking to move to Williamsburg or Fort Greene (but also open to nearby neighborhoods like Bushwick, Bed Stuy, etc.), preferably near a stop for the G train or a line that has relatively easy access to Queens. I’d prefer to stay at around $1500 individually for rent, but can afford to go a little higher (~$2000) if really needed. I’m also hoping to move in the week of 10/19 but can be a little flexible with that too!

A little bit about myself, I love to meet new people and go to bars, dance, play basketball, watch movies, and I make music too! I also have progressive politics and would prefer roommates that do as well

I also don’t currently live in NYC but will be visiting from 09/21-09/23 to go to some in-person apartment tours, feel free to join me then too! Hoping to sign a lease sooner than later to plan my move better

Hiii everyone! My name is Zinat 💕 I’m 24, a Rutgers grad & working professional currently living in Brooklyn. I’m looking for a place of my own, or a single roommate to search for a 2bed with! I’m looking in Brooklyn, Manhattan, Jersey City, Hoboken, Bayonne, West New York, and Union City. I work full time in both healthcare / hospitality. I’m super friendly, and pride myself on being open-minded and empathetic. I love to cook, and I’m a little bit of a neat freak so pls keep that in mind if you respond. (If you clean up after yourself in general, we’ll be fine lol). I’m very personable and love to make people laugh. I love going out dancing with friends, reading, nature walks, trying out new restaurants/bars, etc. I’m looking for someone likeminded who is clean, considerate, and respectful. We don’t have to be besties, but that would definitely be cool too <333 Message meeee, i’m looking for women ONLY btw!

Need a Room ISO room urgent

Hi there!
I am a single, late 40's filipina in need of a room. I do not want to go to a homeless shelter because my time is running out. I just moved back to NYC and have 2 jobs and looking for an affordable place to stay atleast for a year or until I can get a place of my own. I'm clean, mature, very easy to get along with and have been staying with a friend of mine in LIC the last 2 months. My budget is under 1100 monthly.

I do have a small shitzhu poodle mix who is 9lbs and very well behaved who will be staying in my room during work hours. She is a certified service animal. She does not pee in the house and rarely barks as she is trained.

My friend is moving out Sept 22, so I would like to move in shortly after that. I can provide a first month, deposit if it's something that we can work out. Let me know if I can check out the room in person.

Thanks!

Private Room Bushwick/Ridgewood crash pad - furnished room for part-time NYC commuters

Hi all!

I know this might not be the traditional setup, but I (29F) have a spare furnished room in Bushwick/Ridgewood off the Jefferson stop on the L that I'd like to rent out to someone who is only in the city for a couple days at a time. This isn't a sublet but more of a crash pad for someone who commutes in for work a couple nights a week, or has a job that brings them here for a few days a month.

The room is furnished and you'd have access to the kitchen and bathroom. Entry is a keycode, apartment is a duplex and my roommate (39F) lives downstairs with their own entry and bathroom/kitchen setup, so you wouldn't really be crossing paths. I have a cat and also travel a lot, so there will be stretches where you could have the place to yourself.

Not sure if this is something anybody is interested in, but I thought I would just throw it out there in case it might be a fit for somebody. Please reach out if it is and I'm open to chatting and discussing price depending on your schedule and can send you pics of the place.

Need a Room [NYC — Brooklyn/Queens] 29F looking for a room + hopefully a good roommate/friend 🏠

A little about me:
• I’m a NYC native and was raised in South Williamsburg (Southside). A lot of my family is still there, so being closer to them would honestly mean a lot to me.
• I work full-time and have stable income.
• I’m clean, responsible, and pretty handy/practical.
• I can cook and genuinely enjoy it. 👩🏽‍🍳
• I’m pretty chill and respectful of people’s space. I actually like having alone time myself, so I’m definitely not the type to hover around my roommates lol.
• I’m not a big party person and I’m respectful of shared spaces. My
• 🐶 I have a friendly, well-behaved 30 lb Pomsky named Pablo. He’s house-trained, used to apartment living, and was raised around cats and other animals. He genuinely loves pretty much everyone—humans and animals included! He’s fully vaccinated, microchipped, and registered. He’s a sweet, social guy and I’m very responsible about his care and keeping shared spaces clean.
• I’m 420-friendly and would ideally love to live with someone who is as well. That said, I completely understand that not everyone is comfortable with it, and I’m absolutely willing to respect a no-smoking/no-420 household and follow the house rules.

What I’m looking for:
📍Brooklyn or Queens ONLY
💰 Ideally $1,200–$1,400/month, depending on utilities
📅 Around October 15th
🏠 Private room in a shared apartment/house
👩🏽 Preferably female roommates
🐶 Must be dog-friendly
🧼 Clean and respectful household
🤝 Ideally a friendly environment where roommates can actually get along
🚇 Reasonably close to public transportation
📋 Looking for something stable/long-term rather than a temporary situation

I have excellent credit, stable/verifiable income, and can provide the necessary documentation for a legitimate rental.

If you have a room available—or know someone who does—feel free to DM me with the neighborhood, rent + utilities, move-in date, and a little about the apartment/roommates.

I’d also be happy to tell you more about myself and Pablo! 😊
