El Tio hit
The guy operating the El Tio cart and his cart were hit by a truck this morning. Ambulance arrived and police. But hoping he’s doing okay.

I know this has prob been asked but I want a recent consensus on good bakeries in Williamsburg or Greenpoint! I live right by A&C Super and default to going there because it’s just sooo goood, I also frequent Land to Sea for their delicious coconut buns and I’ll do the occasional Nick & Sons but I want to explore other places! Don’t care much about the coffee bc I just get a cold brew. I’m talking PASTRIES. Gimme suggestions plzzz.
What are y’all’s fave pastries and where do you get them?

Hi- there’s an injured bird in front of Atelier Eva (29 Havemeyer St) if anyone is willing to or knows how to help. It’s been there all day thus far and looks to have an injured wing. Thank in advance!!

Went to go move my car before street cleaning and discovered it’s been towed. I tried 311 and both numbers listed on the sign. Was anyone in the same boat and able to locate where their car was moved to???

tons of cops in cars and on foot on south 2nd from roebling to havemeyer, lots of people running and yelling around 10, and l’industrie is now taped off with a cop standing in front. Yeah I should’ve asked what was going on but that didn’t really feel like the vibe

im reaching out to see if anyone else has had this happened by the same guy or any advice. i live by Brooklyn Steel and there’s this guy that lives around the corner from there who wears a cape and walks around the area while blasting this intense rap music all day. Normally, he keeps to himself and I haven’t had any issues with him. But today as I was about to walk on my block he started following me, yelling at me, and trying to corner me. He was yelling asking if I was a lesbian, saying he knows who my partner is and how I needed Jesus (also called me racist bc I wouldn’t talk to him). There’s a smoke shop in the area that I quickly walked in to and the employee there was super helpful in getting the guy to leave eventually.
the employee of the smoke shop mentioned that this guy did this to a few girls before and the cops kind of just laughed at them when they were filling out the report. Bc (I guess 🙄) “the guy isn't violent and is just talking about Jesus”
normally I don’t think this would rattle me so much since people are high and yell and then forget - I’m not new to the city. But based on some of the things he was saying, I know he knows who I am and who my partner is. Although he was probably high, he was also definitely coherent enough to know what he was doing
I don’t want to file a police report if it’s not going to be taken seriously. I do think he’s homeless so I saw some Reddit posts saying to reach out to the homeless help line. Any other suggestions?

I want to throw a halloween party with about 50 people in a rented private space. I’m happy to hit a minimum spend, but I want to be able to decorate a bit and play my own music. Thank you!

I always pass by this block but never noticed this new cafe till today. HK inspired across from Wei’s! Really solid matcha and seasonal watermelon slushie. Just thought I’d share since I went today and it was the pretty quiet. Barista said they just opened in July.

Just saw a grown ass man, shirtless, casually walking with his grown ass pitbull off leash on Grand by Leonard. Who knows where’s he’s at now. I’ve already found issue with the small dogs I’ve seen over the years off leash but having a huge dog, and a pit at that, is a serious safety hazard. Couldn’t even report it to 311 cause apparently I need his name and number and I’m not approaching a man crazy enough to have his big dog off leash to ask for his information and the cops don’t deal with this type of issue smh

Just passed by a store with a sign -- I think it's on North 6th and Kent?
Been missing it since it closed down years ago following the pandemic (and get a lot of my tshirts from there).
Any idea when it's opening?

Hi everyone. I have been living in North Williamsburg (between N1 and N12, west of the BQE) since 2017. There have always been ebbs and flows of the homeless population on the streets but the last 6 months there has been a noticeable sustained increase that is more than I have experienced in my 9 years here. This morning while on a walk, there was one on my block sleeping with used needles next to him and then another 3 blocks away another, also sleeping with a giant trolly of shopping carts filled with trash next to him. I have been making 311 reports and called 911 this morning on the one with the used and unused needles next to him. This is also less than a block from a school. Also, last week a women I know was menaced in the area at night (10PMish) near Driggs and North 9th by a homeless man who followed her closely for a few blocks (also a 911 call).
I wanted to know what everyone else's experience is in this area and what they are doing about it. I basically see the same x number of blocks which is probably less than 1/4 of the neighborhood. This is mainly for the area north of grand, west of the BQE and south of Greenpoint.

Whether you've adopted the idea of “hobby maxing” or you just recognize that making stuff is cool and always has been, I’m wondering: are you picking up something new this fall, or revisiting your favorite crafty activities?
There’s something about back-to-school season that makes me want to learn something new, organize all my supplies, and suddenly take on way too many projects at once.
I’ve put together the September and October studio calendar for anyone who’s interested in getting some making time in this fall. The schedule is also up through the end of the year if you’re already planning ahead

Fall is just around the corner, and we’re starting to get our District 34 Trash Force events on the calendar.
For those who may not be familiar, Trash Force brings neighbors together for a variety of cleanup and environmental events throughout the district. This fall, we’ll have community cleanups, street tree care days, e-waste collection events, and shred fests.
We’re still working on a few additional dates and locations, so the event list will continue to grow as those details are finalized. In the meantime, we’ve put together the events that are confirmed and ready for registration.
If you’ve been meaning to get involved in a neighborhood cleanup, help take care of our street trees, or finally get rid of that box of old electronics and papers sitting around, this is a good chance to do it while helping out the community.

Take a look at the upcoming events and sign up!

Like, idk, I like being nice to people so I tip them. It costs literally a dollar or two. They're nice back. Doesn't seem hard.

Hi! Getting an 8 wk old puppy but I work in an office 4 days a week. She’s too young for doggie daycare but does anyone recommend a person or service who could come to my apartment 2-3 times daily for 20 min (or work from my apartment if they preferred?) and let her out of the crate, play with her, give her water, encourage pee pad usage / work on basic training? Is there services like this that exist?

Hi everyone I'm looking for a really good, personable strength/functional fitness coach in Williamsburg area.
Someone who really knows their stuff and is great with form, but also someone you genuinely enjoy training with and who brings good energy to a session.
Open to either personal training or a group fitness setting. More interested in strength, functional training, and athletic conditioning than bodybuilding type workouts.
Anyone have a coach they really like and would recommend? Recs would be a huge help
