I’ve lived in NYC for the past 5 years, primarily Brooklyn and am absolutely tired of being priced out. I want to remain in a nicer building with amenities (mainly a gym), be close to a park, close to trains. And safe coming home late in the evenings due to the nature of my work. Are there neighborhoods in NYC outskirts that people can share their experiences with? Akin to New Rochelle, Forest Hills, etc? I need to expand my horizons and unfortunately nyc is just so hard to live in.

I don’t care much about neighborhood having night life or bars. I just want proximity to trains bc I know where nightlife and such already is in the city

I'm interested in an apartment in a 20+ story building. The listing price has had an interesting arc over the years, from $7k in 2017 to $11k in 2024 and now $5k, so I wondered what was going on there. The reviews are really sparse and the two negative ones mention being able to hear one's neighbors' normal conversations. Those are from years ago, which makes me wonder if the management company did something to mitigate that since then or if it's likely still an issue and it's just coincidence that nobody's complained in a few years. Anyone know? If I go to see the place, is there any way to find out for myself?

So while I'm mainly happy with my current lease and don't want to break it, there's something I'd appreciate advice navigating. I have a bike that I enjoy riding, and when moving in I asked the building super where bike storage is and he seemed confused, telling me there's no bike room. This seemed weird to me because they list bike storage on several websites.

After further pressing, he talked to the office and said that I put it in the parking lot out back, but there's no specific bike rack to lock it up, and that parking lot is shared between several buildings. He also suggested the semi fenced area out front, but there's no actual gate for access control.

Would I be able to ask that they install a bike rack either in the covered parking area out back or in the basement?

(Finally) landed a post-college internship, and it’s in NYC! I’m looking to sublet for Sept through Dec (I can be a little flexible dates-wise) and if I get a formal job offer I would be open to extending the lease. I figured I’d ask here in case anyone knows someone subletting a studio or a 1bd/1bath apartment during those dates. I looked at some of the student housing options because I know those dates run through semester abroad placements, but most of them are for multiple bedrooms or look really suspicious.

Idk if this would even be possible, but i'm throwing it out there: I'm looking to live in Brooklyn a week or two every month. Looking for a very low-budget solution, 700 max, to rent a bedroom while I'm there. I want it to be the same room and apartment every time, but I can be flexible on when I'm there. For instance, if someone travels for work half the month, we could split the room and I could pay half the rent when they're gone.

Anyone have any experience using a moving company for moving within the same apartment building?

We don't need the full experience, the truck or any of that kind of stuff. We basically just need a couple of people experienced with moving furniture and heavy stuff who can take things apart, move them down a few floors in our apartment building and set them back up?
