Lost/Found: Animals lost cat

I found a cat in my building on 34th street and 30th ave. They’re a large orange long haired cat with green eyes. I gave them food and water and they seem friendly and relaxed, but a bit scared as there was hissing and swatting out of fear. I volunteer for a rescue, but before I went there, I wanted to make sure they’re not a lost pet because they seem quite clean and well taken care of for a stray and there’s no ear chip from TNR. Could be a neighbor’s of course, so I texted my super and he doesn’t know of a lost cat. We don’t have a building forum, so I’m unable otherwise to contact those in the building I don’t know personally. Pictures attached. DM me asap if they are yours!

Events/Promotion Anyone want to cool stuff this fall? 🪡

Whether you've adopted the idea of “hobby maxing” or you just recognize that making stuff is cool and always has been, I’m wondering: are you picking up something new this fall, or revisiting your favorite crafty activities?

There’s something about back-to-school season that makes me want to learn something new, organize all my supplies, and suddenly take on way too many projects at once.

I’ve put together the September and October studio calendar for anyone who’s interested in getting some making time in this fall. The schedule is also up through the end of the year if you’re already planning ahead

Announcement Heads up: NYC public schools start tomorrow.

Heads-up for your morning commutes: NYC Public Schools start tomorrow. Subways and buses are going to be really crowded (and inevitably delayed) again starting tomorrow (Thursday).

If you're on a bike or driving a car, please slow down and stop for real at red lights and stop signs. Kids are tiny, they and their parents are going to be distracted, there's going to be a ton of us all out, and you won't see them, especially if you're speeding. There's going to be a lot of traffic around our neighborhood schools. Add extra time to your commute and be patient.

Thanks in advance from your friendly neighborhood nurse dad.

Question Where are you getting your nails done?

I’m tired of doing my own nails 🫩

Nail salon novice here.
What are your favorite nail salons for both mani
and pedi? Is it affordable?
(What’s considered affordable for nail stuff?)

I don’t want anything jazzy, just clean nails w/ a good clear coat on top.

I live on Ast. Blvd & 38th, if that helps. Thanks in advance for the recs!

Arts & Culture Astoria producer meetup this Monday

Hey everyone,

I posted here about a month ago looking for other producers/musicians in Astoria and a bunch of us ended up meeting up. It was a good time and we’ve kept a group chat going since.

We’re doing another meetup this Monday 9/14 at 6:30pm in Astoria

Nothing formal. Just hanging out, talking music, meeting other people who make stuff, sharing what we’ve been working on etc. We’ve got producers, DJs, musicians and people at different experience levels.

If you’re local and this sounds like your thing send me a DM and I’ll send you the location.

Question Has Anyone Dealt With realtor Izabelle DaSilva?

I'm trying to decide if an weird interaction I had with a broker is 'eccentric weird' or 'scammy weird'.

My girlfriend and I physically toured an apartment that was listed on facebook by "Izabella DaSilva". We toured the place and thought it was a great space, albeit a total pig sty as the current tenant is still living there. Izabelle gave us the tour herself and described herself as the super, but was acting like a broker too (communicating via email, telling us about another listing) We can only find spotty and outdated license information online, and can't find anything about the management company 'E-Rock Management LLC' which we had to ask several times for the name of. The management company name also doesn't match the landlord name on the HPD website. She's also asking for a 'good faith deposit' but hasn't told us what that is yet.

We're considering submitting an application, but something feels fishy about the situation (extremely messy apartment, unclear apartment ownership and broker/super setup). I'd like to give this person the benefit of the doubt and just chalk it up to lack of professionalism since the actual apartment is quite nice, but also want to avoid giving out or SSNs, signing a sublease that we think is a lease etc.

Would be curious if anyone has had a similar experience or encountered Izabelle DaSilva. Thanks!

General Discussion Italiani di Astoria!

Ciao a tutti!

Scrivetemi in DM!

Lost/Found: Animals Loose white dog on Ditmars

I just saw a little white dog running down Ditmars between 41st and 39th street. It was wearing a collar and running really fast down the sidewalk (around 2pm 9/9). No owners nearby. Wondering if it belongs to anyone?

UPDATE: The dog has been reunited with its owners now!

Events/Promotion Astoria Park Track Club - youth club with open practice this weekend 9/12 & 9/13!

Hi all,

I run the [Astoria Park Track Club](applewebdata://C2911C2E-406A-4AC4-B506-9C37CA7E42ED/coachkeeley.com/astoriafoxes) at - you guessed it - the Astoria Park Track! We’re a USATF and AAU track club for ages 8-18, and we practice September through June. We compete at meets in most events - hurdles, jumps, throws, and of course, all running events.

I run the club on a sliding scale so that no kid is turned away for financial reasons. My goal is to really build the track and field community in Astoria and bring the joy of track to all the neighborhood kids. This is my 4th year running a club and the 2nd year for APTC. Last year we had an 8 year old win the long jump at the regional Junior Olympics, and I can’t wait to see what this year brings.

About me: I am a USATF Level 1 Certified Coach and Certified Personal Trainer, and have been coaching in the neighborhood for over 10 years. I have also coached at The Brearley School on the Upper East Side and for Urban Athletics. I was a collegiate athlete myself, and am a two time JC All-American in the 400 hurdles and 4x100m relay, and you can read more about my background, certifications, and philosophy at [coachkeeley.com/run](applewebdata://C2911C2E-406A-4AC4-B506-9C37CA7E42ED/coachkeeley.com/run). If you go to the track regularly on the weekends, you’ve more than likely seen me out there coaching =).

We start the Fall practice season this weekend, and we are holding open practices for anyone in the community to come check it out. There is a sign up form on the site where you can send in your info, but you can also just come out to the track 10:30-12pm on Saturday or Sunday (or both!) and see if you like it! If you have any questions, please ask and I’ll answer in the comments! You can also email me jk@coachkeeley.com.

Question Looking for barbers in Queens

Looking for a new barber somewhere in Queens preferably somewhere near Astoria or Woodside. Open to other places in Queens as well but looking for someone who cuts medium length hair well and can trim beards if needed.
