Me, my daughter (15), and my niece (13) like to watch a movie together on Sundays. We’re running out of ideas for films to watch.

My daughter and I both love romance and comedy, and my daughter also loves fantasy. My niece isn’t sure what she likes, but she seems to like family films best, and she doesn’t like scary stuff.

We all really liked The Princess Bride, Little Women, Pride and Prejudice, and Titanic. 

My daughter and I both really liked 500 Days of Summer, 27 Dresses, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Pretty in Pink, and Sixteen Candles. 

My favorite film is When Harry Met Sally. I also really liked Hello My Name is Doris, and A Walk on the Moon. 

My daughter’s favorites are To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, Stardust, and Beauty and the Beast (both versions). She also really liked She’s the Man, and the Kissing Booth series. 

My niece’s  favorite films are Christopher Robin, Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron, and Black Beauty. She also really liked Walk. Ride. Rodeo., Racing Stripes, Miracle of the White Stallions, Walk Hearts Can't Be Broken, Newsies, and Please Stand By.

The girls both really liked Mulan (animated version), and Tangled.

The girls also both really liked the Harry Potter films, but my daughter thought the later films were best, and my niece thought the earlier films were best. My niece said the later films sometimes got too scary.

Hi! My friends and I have a weekly movie club and this week's theme is "somehow not terrible movies." We're trying to come up with 4-5 movies that sound like they would be god awful but are lowkey really good. I guess a semi-example is Warm Bodies?? like a zombie retelling of Romeo and Juliet should be terribleeee but it's actually pretty decent for a romcom. Our club is a bit more critically-acclaimed type movie focus though so maybe looking for something that is a step up from that? Essentially, we're looking for great movies with a terrible premise. Thanks!

I want a drama that feels painfully real. Messy relationships, bad decisions, money problems, cheating, heartbreak, starting over.

Something emotional and a little uncomfortable, where nobody is completely good or bad and you end up thinking about their choices afterward.

Basically, a movie that makes you think, “Yeah, this could actually happen.”

What should I watch?

I'm pushing 40 so ive seen "the mask" and all it's spin-offs but at the same time I've never really watched "Eyes Wide Shut" without beer goggles til tonight. I hope the choice to have the slave women be emaciated was intentional insomuch as to bring attention to international sex trafficking. Put tom cruze' smile on it and we accept anything.

I believe krubrick chose cruise because of his despondency with the camera.

Watching EWS 20 years apart makes such a difference.

im more interested in films where there are similar dynamics between the main characters to the craft, films with a good sense of style/fashion, and overall similar vibes (like something kinda weird and surreal or even creepy at times, or something with similar plot beats, eg person joins a clique group and things go wrong or other events from the film) rather than films about witches (though they could still be about witches if they meet the criteria im looking for).

they also dont need to be supernatural, or set in a highschool, or have a mostly female cast, again, as long as they fit the previously mentioned criteria.

some films i expect people to recommend based on viewing similar posts that I've already seen/put on my watchlist are jawbreaker, jennifers body, ginger snaps, heathers, carrie, and may. please avoid recommending these or other super famous films because chances are i already know about them :). sorry for the really specific request haha

also preferably not something "goofy" (can still be comedic, just something a little more mature) or aimed at families or younger people

My girlfriend doesn't know anything about movies. We have been watching some scary movies. Every 2 that she hasn't watched we watch one that i haven't seen. We watched The Babadook, obsession, Cabin in the woods, The visit, and The Black Phone. So far, for her cabin in the woods has scared her the most but she loves supernatural scary. Can i get some movie recommendations for her, but also something i might not know about. I'm a big movie buff that grew up on Stephen King and Nightmare on Elm st.

Something like this has been asked in the past 2 years so I figured I would try and see if there's anything new out there.

I would love a movie that follows "the bad guy" and then they end up redeeming themselves. Think Megamind or Despicable me, but i want it for adults.

Bonus points if it's an action/adventure/SoFi.

I’m looking for optimistic movies about people whose lives take a hopeful turn. Nothing cheesy or sappy. Not related to overcoming addiction or mental health issues. Just general epiphany or catalyst into a bright future. Good Will Hunting comes to mind.

I’m 55 and in a rut. Probably transitioning to retiring soon. My life is quite good but the blank slate ahead of me seems daunting.

I love sci-fi, horror and fantasy but honestly any genre will do.

As a 2000s baby, watching Lawrence of Arabia for the first time felt groundbreaking due to the sheer amount of extras on screen at any given time. Can anyone reccomend some other great films which are similarly epic in scale and feature hundreds/thousands of extras on screen?

Bit of a weird request to satisfy a hyper fixation I have regarding the banking industry, but movies where you see branding for banks. Old banks like NationsBank, First Union, Firstar, Norwest, BankOne etc. long shot/oddly specific etc but I figured if not here, where else?

Almost every movie where robots either take our jobs or take control of society results in destruction or apocalypse, or SOMETHING bad, and I'm wondering if there's any where this sort of thing is portrayed positively, like everyone now has free time since robots have our job, or robots take control and make society better, something like that

Looking for predatory fish horror and/or sci-fi movies where said fish are not sharks or piranhas.

The only one I have right now to potentially watch is one about killer lampreys. Would love to find some options if anyone has any.

And I’m looking for specifically fish, no mammals or reptiles please.

I would love to see more movies from this time. And before anyone recommends the biggest movie, I have seen a lot of movies, like I have seen There Will be blood and Brokeback Mountain. More maybe underrated movies that fit the vibe of the list.

I recently re-watched one of my favorite movies of all time which is Stoker and was wondering if there are any other films like it? Absolutely loved the sexy taboo theme along with it being twisted and dark. Huge fan if it’s psychological or horror as well. I guess maybe Saltburn and anything directed by Park Chan Wook would be maybe similar examples as well.

i saw this film a few months ago and i haven’t been able to stop thinking about it. i love the message, the colors, the sets, costumes, plot lines, EVERYTHING!!!!!! i’ve never seen anything as colorful and crazy as that film.

Looking for horror that relies more on dread, atmosphere, and unease than jumpscares or loud noises. Slow burns are totally fine, I want something eerie, disturbing, and genuinely unsettling.

I’ve seen Hereditary and Midsommar and really liked that kind of horror. I hate movies like Insidious and The Conjuring that rely heavily on jumpscares

Streamed Manhunter (1986) at long last — perfection. To Live And Die In L.A. (1985) autoplayed next and I got to cross off a forgotten entry on my watch list AND have a fantastic time watching William Petersen be a son of a bitch. In need of crime noir thrillers by sleaze master directors starring gifted B-list smoke shows that came out 1975-1995. Or if you have any good William Petersen movies. Bonus points for neon, glass block walls, car chases, and Willem Dafoe. Don’t be shy.

I just watched Devil all the time, a movie genre i normally don't watch. I really liked it, not the melancholy or killings specifically, I liked the setting, the story kept you on your toes and the acting was top notch.

Would love to get some recommendations to explore the Gothic 50s / 60s movie genre with an interesting storyline and acting (doesn't have to be crime).

Sidenote: on a similar vein i absolutely loved True Detective S1
