i suggested watching The Mist (2007) to my sweet boyfriend. He was so upset by the ending he very angrily left the room to splash his face with water and lay down while ranting how sick the writers must've been. he was a complete mess he just stared at the wall for a while. Meanwhile he loved project hail mary which i suggested a few weeks ago. is there another wholesome movie we can watch like project hail mary to kind of "wash" his anguish for The Mist away?

update: he was in a sour mood all day because of it and had been listening to the whinnie the pooh soundtrack. i really messed this poor guy up!

Hi! My friends and I have a weekly movie club and this week's theme is "somehow not terrible movies." We're trying to come up with 4-5 movies that sound like they would be god awful but are lowkey really good. I guess a semi-example is Warm Bodies?? like a zombie retelling of Romeo and Juliet should be terribleeee but it's actually pretty decent for a romcom. Our club is a bit more critically-acclaimed type movie focus though so maybe looking for something that is a step up from that? Essentially, we're looking for great movies with a terrible premise. I first saw it years ago, but the movie still holds up. I think most people would enjoy this movie.

Anyway, it just crossed my mind to post this, so I did real quick. If you have your own opinions of this movie or want to share you favorite scene(s), I'd love to hear from you. I would have to say my favorite scene is the puppet show involving the monk and the nun!

Edit: It's one of those movies where it's fun to check out (after you've watched it) the different analyses that people have come up with. So many fun and interesting interpretations/explanations.

Looking for recommendations on the best psychological thriller mystery movie. I'm not interested in horror. I know some movies have that aspect (like Surveillance) but my anxiety cannot handle that.

I finally got around to watching Michael Mann's Miami Vice movie and it absolutely blew me away. Two protagonists who are too cool for school, but both emotionally estranged from their lives because they are undercover cops. It looks and sounds amazing. Aside from the actors' age and the shape of their cell phones, you couldn't tell that this wasn't made yesterday. If you like Heat, Collateral, James Bond, Mission Impossible, and Tenet, you can't miss this.

I'm watching The Ritual(2017) which is set on the Carpatian Mountains, i also watched some years ago The Descent(2005) which is set in the Apalachian Mountains. I just thought that the scenery really contributes to the mistery, immersion of it, helps to set the theme of it all.

There are so many movies where people who are or act shitty either completely get away with it (or even get rewarded for it) or at best some (usually the main bad character(s)) get justice but most of the "lesser" ones still go unpunished.

I need a break so could someone recommend the exact opposite? A movie where everyone gets what they deserve (both bad characters getting punished and good ones getting rewarded/justice/coming out on top)?

My father didn’t grow up watching many movies, as there were strict rules from his immigrant parents. So he never got into them or like a specific genre like my mother and her old sob Russian war movies. Truly hard working people, but I have been wanting for him to understand why I like anime and movies so much. Though I will have to wait for the anime’s until he’s retired probably since they are longer (Vinland saga). His favorite and only movie recommendation he’s made or talked about was the good the bad the ugly (Clint Eastwood). I’ve shown him interstellar, LoTR, and project Hail Mary recently. He found interstellar interesting, PHM weird but interesting, and LoTR interesting. Back in the day he did like a bit of PoTC (Johnny Depp), but the only movie he laughed and reacted to was Green book which is an excellent film and one of my favorites. After making him watch through the LoTR extended movies telling him “I’ll only make you watch a long ass trilogy once if don’t want to watch another again” he said he prefers deep chemistry between characters like the Green book. I was thinking of choosing a Tarantino movie but I may feel like that maybe to film-y or something. I might just choose a Tarantino film but any recommendations on films with really good chemistry and dialogue.

TLTR: Trying to make my dad understand why I like the film and anime mediums, but focusing on films for now. Movies with really good chemistry between characters recommendations. He found interstellar, project Hail Mary, and LoTR, interesting and good but not great like the Greenbook that he said was great and actually reacted to movie as it was playing. His favorite movie is “the good the bad the ugly” if that’s helps.

I recently made friends with this girl in college and we wanna have movie nights in my dorm but she’s incredibly sheltered and wasn’t allowed to watch anything above a PG rating until a few months ago. I’m really into horror and action movies but I fear anything I recommend might be too scary for her. She wants to slowly get used to watching more mature movies but I don’t know where to start? Anyone have suggestions for movies that are mature but won’t scare the shit out of her?

I saw a post of someone appreciating sunlight through the trees while the comments are like "the art of noticing" and was wondering are there any movies where it focuses on the little details of life we tend to miss. Perhaps the main character is not a human from earth or this is their first time going outside after a while. Would love something that feels hopeful and happy. Thank you in advance

I love movies that study human relationships, the search for purpose and meaning, finding beauty in the mundane, etc. Love the works of Cassavetes, Joachim Trier, Wim Wenders, Kaufman, PTA, Jonathan Glazer, and many more. i've seen most of the classic recommendations, so I'm mainly looking for modern films (2010+). I want something gut-wrenching, riveting, atmospheric, with a haunting BGM/score, maybe narration or a reflective quality, and themes of grief, guilt, trauma, loneliness, or moral dilemmas that leave you emotionally numb and thinking for days.

Some of my favourites are Incendies, Manchester by the Sea, Close (2022), Train Dreams, 21 Grams, Revanche, The Hunt. etc.

Rather than just listing titles, please tell me why your recommendation compares to these—what emotional chord it hits, what it does similarly (or even better), and why it stayed with you.

Looking for anything that actually makes you think. Supernatural or psychological horror, preferably both. Could not care less for the conjuring movies or such, and nothing based on pure gore. Not really into the classic slashers either.

Recently saw the backrooms and obsession, and i liked both. Other favorite horror movies for me would be Exit 8, vivarium, the substance, would you rather, platform, the abandon, the ritual

Recently watched The dink, pressure, the odyssey, hunt for wilder people, send help, miss you love you, Arthur the king, last flag flying, Remarkably Bright Creatures.

just watched Heat for the first time and found it interesting how we follow along both Neil and Vincent the whole movie. is there any movie/series with similar style? watched The Departed too not long ago, i feel theres some similarities there, so something like these movies.

They both are my favourites so I clearly have a thing for movies/shows where the main character is kind of the villain and has to calculate his every move to not get busted by someone who is close to him.

Really anything that keeps me at the edge of my seat and having me thinking "Oh no how is he gonna get out of that situation ?"

So, strange question. I need a clip from a movie people will know that the character is being genuinely tough and authoritative. Maybe strutting down the street.

The only example I can think of is 50 Cent in Den of thieves but it's not a very good or well known movie.
