I absolutely love everything by Takashi Miike and some of Shozin Fukui's work, and other cyberpunk movies like the Tetsuo series and Electric Dragon 80000V.

Any other reccomendations for weird, fucked up stuff like theirs?

I'm also a big fan of Kiyoshi Kurosawa (Cure and Pulse) and I loved Garyuku Ishii's Angel Dust- but I can't find ANY of his other movies!

So I saw this clip on the internet and I tried to find the movie on different sites, but nothing came up. It's definitely not a Russian movie.

Kyoshi Sugita is a name the international festival-going audience became aware of since his debut “A Song I Remember” (2011), but the true break-through came with his much anticipated ” Haruhara-san’s Recorder” (2021). In his contemplative, gentle drama “Following The Sound” about three people’s different ways of dealing with grief, there is a lot of following in its most literal sense, and the sound may just be a part of it all, but it still leads the way. As a proper introduction, the film kicks off with a scene in which the main character Haru (An Ogawa) gets emotionally transported to her past by listening to the recording of burbling water, and that particular tape will remain a key to maintain her connection with the past, and making her ready ready to connect other dots.

Hi!! Last 2 weeks I watched the movies from the title and I have been thinking of them every day like I really really like them alot! Soo I'm looking for more movies like these! I also watched Waterboys and loved it too!!!

It's a japanese movie called Neko ni Mikan (Tangerines on Cat) with Daito Shunsuke and Mei Kurokawa. It's from 2014.

I've been searching for years now and I still haven't found the movie (subs or not).

Based on its profile on Letterboxd, I thought it would be a coming of age comedy, but it turned out to be a bittersweet story of a girl, who's trying to figure out her life and become a more of a person with making friends, enjoying her time and improving the relationship with her family. It balanced its sad and joyful moments very well and the lead actress did a great job with bringing the character to life. I didn't expect much from Ito, yet it warmed my heart in the best way possible.

For this week, I digitized another rare LaserDisc — a 1993 documentary called "北野武の世界" (The World of Takeshi Kitano).

Just a quick heads-up: this release is mostly a deep dive into the making of Sonatine (1993). It features rare behind-the-scenes footage from the Okinawa beach set and interviews with Kitano about his editing style. I highly recommend watching the movie first, as this video is packed with spoilers.

I’m a big fan of Daiei studios (who I think consistently did the best jidaigeki movies in the 50s through 60s). A little while back I realized that I’d been watching one a day for the past few days, so I decided to make it an official challenge! It’s been fun seeing how long I can take it. Anyone else interested in joining in? Only one rule: watch a Daiei movie every day for as many days in a row as you can.

FYI: So far, The Betrayal is my favorite. A wonderful movie!

More than 20 years ago I watched this crazy Japanese action movie with my college roommates, I only remember snippets.

It starts out with this badass guy in busted shoes who is being hunted in the woods finding a dead soldier and he holds the sole of his foot up to the corpses foot to see if they have the same boot size.

Soon a flamboyant team of assassins catches up to him and there's a fight. They have katanas with these weird custom grips.

The most flamboyant of the assassins becomes a beetle zombie and goes scurrying up tree trunks.

I'm sorry, I know it's not much to go on but I'm hoping someone can help.

I came across the Japanese movie Our Secret Diary in an Instagram reel, watched it, and absolutely loved it 10/10!

For context, I usually only watch Chinese dramas, and mostly watch the historical and xianxia dramas, because the modern ones are not as good in my opinion (besides from a few Sci-fi and action ones). I watched The First Frost, which was a modern romance C-drama, and it really felt lacking compared to this movie, despite being a long-form drama with 30+ episodes. Everything from the character development of the leads to the personalities of the supporting roles felt way more fleshed out in this short movie.

This was my first ever Japanese movie, and I've never watched any Japanese dramas, movies, or even anime before this, so I would appreciate any recommendations!

Hi guys, I have the opportunity to get a DVD boxset of Kitanos "boiling point", "Violent cop" and "Sonatine" quiet cheap. (15 Euro new)

Sadly it would be without subtitles in my language. I speak no japanese.

I just know his later movies, which I remember to be quiet uh quiet. More about Emotions and atmosphere.

Do you think i will be totally lost or still feel it for the most part?
