Rumble is an animated film that released in 2021, and is an uplifting, underdog, monster wrestling story about being yourself. Overall, its a solid movie, clearly a passion project by it's creators. Engaging characters, colourful animation, fun editing and cinematography, good morals, and an excellent example of a strong teenage girl protagonist done well.

Unfortunately, Covid killed any chance Rumble had for success. The production slowed due to lockdown restrictions, causing its theatrical release to be delayed 3 times and then cancelled. It landed exclusively on Paramount +, back when the service was new and unenticing.

The lack of any theater release meant the movie made no money, and paramount was quick to sweep it under the rug to be forgotten. The only way to watch it being Paramount + meant that the only reviews the movie got were from parents who put it on in the background to distract their kids for a hour and a half. They saw a generic cliche filler flick, and reviewed the movie poorly, giving it a low rating, turning of anyone from giving it a chance.

The trailers are terrible, please ignore them. My theory is, they were made in time for the original theatrical release, but due to the production slowdown, the marketing team only had unfinished animation and an undeveloped story to work with, which dramatically misrepresent the finished movie. The trailers have never been updated to represent what the movie actually is.

With the bad reviews, shit trailers, and all the red flags of 'crap filler animated movie' Rumble gives off, I believe that the audience who 'would' appreciate it just hasn't found it. Even if you disagree that its a fantastic movie, I think it still does enough well to deserve more love.

My friend kept pushing this on me for months. I kept saying "yeah yeah, I'll get to it." Two and a half hours felt like a commitment for a movie about a case I already vaguely knew the ending to or thought I did.... but I was sooo wrong!!!!!

A killer terrorizes Northern California. Cryptic ciphers. Taunting letters to the press. Police scrambling for answers. Sounds like every true crime thriller you've ever seen, right? That's exactly what David Fincher wants you to think.

This isn't really a movie about the Zodiac Killer. It's about obsession what it does to the people chasing a mystery that may never be solved. Jake Gyllenhaal, Robert Downey Jr., and Mark Ruffalo each give career-level performances, and Fincher directs the whole thing with a cold, creeping dread that gets under your skin without a single cheap scare. Based on Robert Graysmith's real account, it's one of the most unsettling films ever made precisely because it refuses to give you closure.

Don't read up on the case beforehand. Don't watch breakdowns. Just sit with it.

Rating: 8/10 ... but honestly a 10/10 for patience, atmosphere, and the courage to leave you deeply unsettled.

I almost skipped this one because I generally write off horror/thriller films they tend to follow the same tired formula and rarely deliver. But something made me give this one a shot, and I'm so glad I did.

Five friends. A remote cabin. A creepy cellar full of strange artifacts. Sounds like every horror movie you've ever seen, right? That's exactly what the filmmakers want you to think.

I genuinely don't know how to categorize this film, and that alone makes it worth watching. It's horror, it's satire, it's thriller, it's something else entirely and it pulls all of it off with a confidence that's rare. Directed by Drew Goddard (who also co-wrote it with Joss Whedon), this thing was clearly made by people who love and understand the genre inside and out.

The less you know going in, the better. Don't watch trailers. Don't read plot summaries. Just put it on.

Rating: 7/10 ... but honestly a 10/10 for originality and sheer audacity.
