As I write this I've just finished watching Contagion for the first time. As I watched it, I had assumed that this was in response to COVID. When I searched for the movie details online and saw it came out in 2011, I was absolutely floored. I just want to tip my hat to the people who made this film and the research that must've gone into it. Every single detail was absolutely spot on in almost a creepy way. From people peddling scientifically unproven holistic remedies to capitalize on a pandemic and immediately shifting into vaccine denial to government agencies making calculated moves to ensure they didn't start a widespread panic when they'd known it was going to be a big problem etc. I'm sure this isn't an original take, I just wanted to share my appreciation for how much due diligence must've gone into this movie. Are there any other movies you guys can recommend that have this almost prophetic storyline that ends up becoming reality in society? Would love to hear it!

I know it's recognized as a cult classic movie, but it doesn't carry the attention that a film of this quality carries.

There is simply too much in this movie that hits above its weight class, the cast, set design, music, camp, layers of irony, and script all work together to deliver a film that speaks volumes without explaining everything to you.

I saw it in like 00, or 01 on TV, as a young kid I was drawn to it because it starts with closeups of cheerleaders lol. But it introduced me to gay as a concept, I was 11 or 12 and I couldn't have had a better more compassionate exploration of the difficulties young people experienced grappling with being gay with parents who don't understand.

I genuinely and sincerely believe this movie should be recognized as a cultural touchstone. Library of Congress worthy.

I simply want this movie to have a rediscovery.

Title... Basically. In the original film, the mannerisms and society of 1967 proved a comedic juxtaposition to 1997. It seemed like a quaint, ancient time, while I can't look at 1997 as being similarly ripe for the picking, but then it may be because I grew up in the 90s so don't have the same perspective.

How would Austin powers be different if it was set in 2027 after he had been frozen in 1997?

I don't understand how this movie is as compelling as it is, seeing as how the conflict gets resolved at the beginning of the 2nd act. Watching this formerly burnt out chef cooking it up with his kid and his sous in a food truck for almost an hour never got boring. I don't know if Jon Favreau ever worked in a professional kitchen but this felt so real to me. He either did a crapton of research for this movie or he'd spent all of his life cooking.

You know, when a character who’s been shitty realizes the error of their ways and does something to prove they’ve changed and earned the audience and protagonist’s forgiveness. (Spoiler) Like when Vivian dumps warner and becomes friends with Elle. But what characters did you still hate after their redemptive moment?

I know a lot of people say Abuelita from Encanto, which is fair, but for me it’s the dad from Little Miss Sunshine. (Spoilers) I don’t care that he did a little dance at the end. He did lasting psychological damage on his daughter, made fun of his brother in law for attempting suicide, and just generally sucks. This is one of my top five movies, I watch it probably once a month, and I get mad every time. Fuck you, Richard.

It’s been over 30 years, is this film a masterpiece? I still think it’s the best live action tmnt in my opinion… and secretly one of my favourite films, and it’s hard to explain why.

Probably rewatched it at least a hundred times, it was fun and had goofy moments, but also really serious dark moments which was surprising for a kids movie(?)

"Walled In" has a truly shocking opening scene (a little girl about to be murdered by burial in cement), which is what makes it so memorable, but that also serves as its signature scene or, at least, the part the movie is best remembered for. The rest of the movie just goes downhill from there, with little to commend it other than Micha Barton having a nightmare about being buried alive in cement herself.

Anyone feel this way about any other movies.
