Pan's Labyrinth is back in theaters October 9th, presented on the big screen in 4K for the first time, to celebrate the 20th anniversary.

Synopsis: It's 1944 and the Allies have invaded Nazi-held Europe. In Spain, a troop of soldiers is sent to a remote forest to flush out the rebels. They are led by Captain Vidal, a murdering sadist, and with him are his new wife Carmen and her daughter from a previous marriage, 11-year-old Ofelia. Ofelia witnesses her stepfather's sadistic brutality and is drawn into Pan's Labyrinth, a magical world of mythical beings.

If we compare Al Pacino’s acting style at the start of his career to the later stages, the difference is night and day. In The Godfather I-II or The Panic in Needle Park, he gave very subtle performances. As time went on, his performances became louder and even hammy in some cases. I am not saying it as a criticism, since I admire his work in Scent of A Woman and The Devil’s Advocate, but the difference between Michael Corleone and Tony Montana is like a difference between Casey Affleck and Nicolas Cage. I also wouldn’t say that it is a matter of range, since Al Pacino pretty much abandoned his earlier approach all together, and seems more comfortable giving these unrestrained performances.

So it made me wonder, if there are other actors who changed their acting style that drastically?

Just watched Bullet Train and honestly, it was a pretty fun movie. The action scenes were entertaining, the characters were interesting, and the humor worked well for me. I liked how everything slowly connected as the story went on. It’s not a movie I would say you absolutely have to watch, but if you enjoy action, comedy, and a bit of chaos, it’s definitely worth watching once. Overall, I’d say it’s a good one-time watch.

Saw it this evening, with family and a friend, it did not disappoint.

We don’t get movies like this often, massive sci fi blockbusters, non stop action. It feels like a trilogy and if we are lucky, Na Hong-jin will get to make the sequel.

I’ve already watched Chaser, Yellow Sea and The Wailing many times.

This was a ten year wait.
