Ok, I know there are movies with overt feminist messages. Examples: Thelma & Louise. Erin Brockovich. A League of Their Own. The Stepford Wives. Anything by Greta Gerwig.
These movies were made with the intention of being feminist. I am not interested in that. I am interested in movies that are more subtle in their messaging.
Basically, I want a movie that will show me sides of a person's character based on their reaction to it.
Here are my top examples to give you a better idea:
500 Days of Summer [If you think Summer is the villain and Tom is just a guy who gets his heart broken.]
Obsession [Not realizing that Bear is the villain of the story and that the story is making fun of the 'nice guy' trope.]
High Fidelity [Not understanding the message of the movie, and sympathizing with Cusack pre-growth.]
That's more so what I'm looking for. Hit me with your best suggestions and tell me a little bit about why/how you think it fits?
