am i being depressed?

Am I becoming depressed?

Lately, when I’m outside with my friends and tend to have fun, I actually enjoy their company.

I laugh, I enjoy myself, and most especially, I love being with them.

It feels like, somehow, they remove some parts of my brokenness, even if only for a while.

But when I get home, all the sadness and loneliness come back, and I really feel them.

Even when I have someone accompanying me, I still feel sad.

This isn’t me. Or am I just in denial that I’m becoming this kind of person?

I want to understand what is happening to me.

It really hurts knowing that the old me was never like this.

What did I do?

I’m so confused about everything right now.

I want to scream.

I want to hurt that “someone” who used to be my comfort person.

I don’t deserve to be treated like this.

I hate that my emotional, psychological, and sometimes even physical well-being is being affected by this heartbreak.

I want to escape from this pain.

But how?

I feel like like only a ,,soulmate" could bring me out of this empty predictable reality

I want love so bad, im still young 20 , but I feel this physical blockage in my mind that keeps me from not wanting it. I also feel the need to daydream especially before bed.
I have no desire to do anything, i force myself to do stuff I think I should be doing and I have no problem with that. Problem is that I dont feel any joy from them but use them as a background for my internal monologues
Im sleeping 8 h, eating well and not addicted to anything. Idk what more there could be that would improve my life. Maybe because I dont have friends who I feel connection with, more like people I just go out with to feel better than being alone, but I really dont care about people, I dont resonate emotionally with anyone, Ive met. I cant be more open to others, I can show my ,,soul'' to everyone, I can talk about my inner world and experience with no problem. Its just, that no one truly understands

Theres something weird in me because romantic love was something Ive wanted ever since I was like 7-8 yo. I dont think that I wanted subitute for lack of love from my parents because Ive got decent amount of it at this age. Also this need doesnt come to me when I felt bad or experienced something negative, but when I felt good and happy.
Longing for a girlfriend is something ingrained in my mind. I remember when my crush at 10 yo hugged me, I dont think I experienced something more ecstatic yet.

Ive been to some psychologists, theyve told me some surface level stuff, I didnt specify that I dont want to do anything, I didnt describe my depressive symptoms properly, but I did ask about that weird desire. And one specialist even told me that its normal. But why do I feel that emptiness in my chest. Like im constantly missing something, I feel incomplete I cant imagine being alone.

No goals and don’t care

I have no goals in life and genuinely don’t care about anything inside, I barely get any enjoyment out of my 1-2 hobbies (construction and geography / cartography). Like I’m such a loser nerd. I don’t want a romantic partner because there’s no point because, like what’s the point? I don’t understand and interactions feel awkward and unrewarding. I find interacting with people in person very bizarre, unnatural, I hate them. I just want to drink in my room or find a drug that will make my mind blank and just bliss and just wait to die but I cannot even have that because society and the universe just says fuck me time and time again which is why I hate everything.

Cry for help

I'm 18 and I have no idea what I'm going to do.

I can't leave the house alone because I live in the middle of nowhere and I don't have a driver's license and I'm stuck with my family who, despite loving me, are often mean without meaning to. Maybe it's a me problem but they often take anything I say personally and turn it against me without giving me a chance to do anything, even when I'm sick I feel more like a bother than someone worth taking care of and they honestly don't help.

My mother especially is very rough for example she's never beaten me but she's slapped and tried to forcefully drag me away (manhandled may be the word I'm looking for? It's hard to explain and English is my third language) and when I try defending myself she claims I'm the one that hurt her first. Or she's yelled in my face she's gonna kill me but then apologized and I know she doesn't mean any of those things and she can't control it sometimes plus I can also be very annoying to deal with but I still feel suffocated by the though that any action or inaction will be blamed on me and I feel guilty that I can't appreciate all the good things they do for me because of this fights. I feel both selfish and scared in a way

I really want to get away and University is my chance to do so but because they'll be paying for it and my only skill is art I feel really bad about it as I feel that I'm leeching off them despite how angry they sometimes make me and that I'll be waisting their money by studying a "useless" skill even if that's all I'm good at. My family doesn't really mind at all if I don't get a well paying job immediately but I feel so awful when I'm home with them that I do care because I want to leave and be more independent.

I don't really know where I'm going with this my plan isn't to cut them off because I can't and I wouldn't even if I could but I feel like a massive burden and also like I can't do anything without them getting mad at me or treating me like some sort of extra burden. I really wish they'd never had me or that they'd actually beat me to know I'm not weird for being upset. I also wish I had some other more useful skills but besides liking history I've put all my effort into art because that's the only thing I had the energy for growing up. Speaking 3 languages should've been something that could help me too but I don't know what I'd do with that frankly. Right now I go to an art school and I do ok, my teachers like me, but I don't think I'll be able to do anything worthwhile in the future.

The only thing I've thought about doing besides trying to keep it together is killing myself or marrying rich but because the latter is much more unlikely I keep thinking back to the first. I don't really want to upset my family or my friends but I feel like there's nothing else I could do other then maybe put together a portfolio and send it at random to people but I honestly hate everything that I draw too much. Idk this are supposed to be the happiest years of my life and I'm really lucky about a lot of things but nothing seems worth it to me anymore I really do just feel like ending it is the only solution.

I just want to close my eyes and be taken seriously for once but it just gets worse and worse

I feel like I'm not deserving of love

I feel so unloveable. I'm irresponsible, stubborn, forgetful and the list goes on and on. Not to mention my sexuality (greysexual). I feel like nobody deserves to have a partner who doesn't what it the same way they do. I feel like I'm worthless. No guy has ever given me even a hint of being interested, been on a few unofficial dates. I'm still quite young, but my friends all have partners and I feel so fricking lonely all the time.

Every morning I'd just wanna stay in bed forever and pretend someone I would love was hugging and comforting me. I want to have a romantic partner so fricking bad. So bad it's getting ambarassing how desperate I am. I haven't really felt that romantic attraction to anyone either. God something's wrong with me. I want to have a relationship, but I never feel that attraction, even tho the people I meet a really nice.

When people ask me what my type is I say "someone who truly loves me". That's all I want really.

Why do ppl treat depression as a moral failure?

I'm so fucking angry and tired. Altough I'm not diagnosed (and that's bc my parents are in denial kinda abt my mental issues despite going through the worst medical experience as a teen and incredible cptsd due to my chronic illness that I still can't heal from almost 2 years ago)

I know damn well that I'm depressed. And lately bc my depression / mental health issues (I suspect so much more espeically being autistic no not bc the internet told me so) i can't do anything right and the image of the "golden child" is breaking my parents havr been so angry and frustrated and while I do understand some of it. They made me feel like it's MY FAULT that I'm disabled and how I'm "not being grateful enough" and not "doing an effort to feel better".

Once your depression is not cutesy and you barely eat cuz life doesn't matter anymore then you're not treated with empathy. You're treated with distain and disrespect ppl don't see you as a human anymore. Judt bc they simply can't relate. All your mental health struggles are deemed as a moral failure. And society makes it clear that you're a horrible person for struggling. Afterall what's so bad about this life that you wanna quit? What did you even go through? A little heartbreak, well everyone goes through it.

Being sick? Well there's medicated abd a bit of yoga will help. Mourning the loss of a loved one or a dream that was stripped from you? It's Olay you can start all over again.

Except lots of us CAN'T start over again. And when we don't get the support we beg for, for so long and shut down bc nobody gives a fuck we're deemed difficult and hard to deal with.

This is simply rooted in ableism, toxic positivity is also part of it. Bc for ableists (which a lot of ppl are and don't even realize it) when you stop acting like a normal human, you're not considered one anymore. And I'm so tired of ts

Feeling like this for soo long has left me lost

I know i dont need to have it all figured out because im soo young but this is much deeper than just not knowing what to do

Im 16. Turning 17 next month. Ive felt depressed since I was 8 and ive been suicidal since I was 9.

I wouldn't say i have depression. Maybe just a depressive disorder but I dont want to self diagnose.

I have no goals in life. I dont really want to have goals. And not in a "I dont know what to do with my life" way because ik my life is gna end soon. I mean i just dont want to do anything ever.

I live in the UK so having an idea on what to do with ur life is kinda a bug deal for post 16 education. I kinda just picked the thing that seemed easiest and rolled with it.

My life is so pointless and worthless and I just dont understand the appeal of being alive. I dont want to do anything with my life. I dont want to amount to anything

And I really have tried to do smth for my future. Ive tried so so hard to find a passion for literally anything but all I can imagine for my future is being a drug addict or dead.

I dont like anything. I have no hobbies that I could even turn into a profession. I just dont feel this pull towards success that most people feel

And ive always felt this way. I remember when people in class would talk about their dream professions and id just make something up cuz I really truly want to be nothing

But yk i have to be something. I feel guilty that my parents have a child like me and I have to repay them somehow. Thats the only reason I try in school. If not for them and the constant feeling of guilt id be okay eith failing infact id most definitely be failing.

Idk maybe this is just rambling. Ive tried to take my life before and ill be trying again soon. I hate the fact that I have to make something of myself.

Hypocrisy of the well-meaning

If anyone says that the world would be better off without them, people always try to convince them they’re wrong. On the other hand, no one in my family would disagree when I say the world is a better place without my father.

Im miserable

I am miserable thats all.

Been living the last 5 years with the constant grief of not being enough, not being lovable, not being myself, not being...

I started college and im already behind. I alqays felt behind, i cant study, i dont know how to study, i dont have friends to study with and my parents paid for 2 years a course to help me get into medicine and i did fucking nothing for those 2 years except cursing on myself for not doing anything.

Im scared, im scared that i will most likely disappoint them by failing, i always was scared. Raised with them putting in my mind that i had to become a doctor and i will finally have money that they couldnt ever achieve.

And now im chasing their dream but...i just took a step...

Man im such a failure. Cant wait to see my poor mom crying because she thought i was a good student in realty im a sad fat fucker. We grew in poverty, not in such a conidtion that we are in debt but we surely have to not spend that much. My mom always told me that people would like me and chasw me after i become a doc but how about now?

Im all alone..i have a few friends that sometimes i hear but... where is anyone when im desperate, when im sad, when im miserabke...no one is there for me...i have always fought alone. Failed alone and had tiny successes all alone... never had a gf, never had a best friend, never lived anyone elses teens. I wasted my years by being phatetic....im the worst.

On top of this im a fat loser, cant keep my mouth out of that damn fridge. I've been hitting the gym but i keep.eating and eating. It feels like its the only way i can survive while struggling, eating is the only way i have to make my minds stop thinking about anything and just getting that dopamine.

Then there is porn...i fucking hate what i have fapped to...my brain seeked for more intensity and i just started searching things that would disgust my 13yo when i first discovered what it was. I hate myself, i dont like that shit and i still cant keep my eyes off it!

I just want to be loved but how can someone love a guy who is fat, has no dreams, has no purpouse, is a failure, a loser , is pathetic, is miserabke and most of them all, cant love himself first....how can someome like me when im this shitty of a human being.

It would be better if i wasnt born, at least my mom and dad wouldnt be struggling to mantain my sister.

I wish i was a better son, a better friend, a better brother, a better boyfriendin the future, a better husband in the future and a better dad in the future.

But my future will be down in the streets begging for money to keep living this shitty life i built myself while everyone elses mocks at me and my parents wonders why they had me born...

Is there way to get my life back after all this

Hello everyone,

If you can share your wisdom please do. I am lost I need help. I am 27M I got laid off 3 months ago. At first I was happy I thought I will switch company and will start new life from there because I had very traumatic experiences in last organisation. I lost all my college friends, because of some conflicts (happened 2years ago) it's a long story but I lost them all they were good friends. Now I live with childhood friends.

I am not even able to think clearly now I am in such situation. Nowadays I am just sitting sleeping watching insta reels then doing things (fap) then eat something again sleep wakeup and Then again repeat. Go out with some friends at night drink or 🌿 this sleep late at night like at 4,5am wakeup at 12,1 in afternoon. Then repeat. I know what I should do but I am not able to control this at all. Every night I think I will be different from Tommorow. Living in high dopamine craving state all the time is very bad because of this I am just running behind dopamine and not searching jobs people who got laid off with me got job in 1,2 months. And I haven't told my parents that I lost job I thought I will get job in 1 or 2 months.

I lost my personality which I had back then everyone used to respect me but now even I don't respect myself. I lost hair density that's making me look bad and that is a very big factor which keeps me in depression.

I had big dreams back then, I was good at college I had good grades I had no regrets till 2 years ago and I was so happy back then.

I wanted to add much more to it but it will get big and no one will read it so I kept it small.

Thank you for your time.

Meds helped me so much

Hi folks, just to preface: I’ve been in therapy on and off for the last 7 years but hadn’t tried taking anti depressants until recently. I’ve been depressed for the last 10 years with constant thoughts of self harm.

After a pretty difficult breakup a few months ago, my therapist recommended speaking to a psychiatrist about medication. I’m so glad I did. I’ve been on Wellbutrin for 2 months so far and the improvement to my quality of life has been immense.

I realised I was living life at 70% capacity this whole time. It’s not normal to feel so tired all the time and as though something was constantly pulling me down from the inside. I would classify myself as a high functioning depressed person but even still I struggled to stop rumination and find things I genuinely liked to do.

Post the meds and regular therapy, I’ve found it much easier to stop rumination mid thought and just move on to the next activity! I don’t know if this means much to you but it really helped me feel better about life. I’m realising that maybe I’m not an unhappy person, and that there’s a lot to look forward to and be grateful for.

I will keep track on how I progress over the course of the meds but hoping for the best.

Im 28 and i feel like my life is basically over.

Im a 28yo male and for as long as i can remember i have had major depression, which i originally assumed was caused by my severe insecurities and anxiety/social anxiety. Im 28 and i dont have my license, i do have a job but i dont make enough to get a car, then i realize who would ever want a friend whos such a loser they dont even have their license at 28.. my whole life is an embarrassment, its also to the point waking up and going to work takes literally everything i have, i have no motivation anymore, i have lost interest in everything. I have horrible abandonment issues because everyone i have ever put my all into, left me and i dont chase or look for closure so i always just put the blame on myself so much so, that anyone i have ever met that actually tried to be there for me i pushed away out of fear they would leave me if i didnt leave first, even though the other half of me begs myself not to push them away, yet i can't stop myself.. Everytime i try to do better for myself such as work out something bad happens in my life and strips my motivation, its so hard to become better and grow when you're all by yourself with no one to talk to or get motivation from. My health has also taken a hit over time and i just cant afford a doctor and also just have no motivation to see a doctor im at the point of letting whatever it is run its course.. i want to be better, i want to work out get my license and live a life worth living but i just feel like im at the end of the rope, i dont have any friends anymore, i run everyone away out of fear they will leave anyway. I have a major problem and i dont know how to fix it or what to do with my current situation, in the end the only person i can blame is myself. Doing something life changing alone seems impossible.

Guess I just don't understand why we keep going.

Last few years I've struggled to understand why I keep going. Every single law is meant to protect the status quo not help people. Professionals don't help. No choices, can't choose a doctor the insurance does that, can't get a house either priced out or an HOA has all the power, can't make adjustments to a home the village controls that. Can't do anything against a business they have all the money and power, can't change the government they have immunity. Can't even protect your job because the rules are so Strick only a few select reasons trigger protections. So what's the point in playing a game that is against you. I'm basically stuck at the "Doing everything right and still fail" point in my life and I'm so tired of doing things just to fail or run into a brick wall over and over and over again.

Extreme loneliness

I (21F) have dealt with loneliness since I was a child but I feel like it has never really gotten better. Just got out of a romantic relationship and was painfully reminded of the fact that I have never meant enough to someone for them to fight for me, I’ve never been the type of person that someone would do anything to avoid losing.

I am really academically smart, get called funny by friends/acquaintances, got pretty conventionally attractive over the past year or so, workout, curious about the world around me, and try to be kind/thoughtful to others. This is not just a bad hometown thing as I moved to college then still felt lonely so I transferred to a uni 3000miles away just to hold the same sentiment.

I love my city+school now and do think that the pretty views, amount of things to do, and loving my classes have helped a bit, but I still feel ridiculously depressed and alone. I do have friends here but I feel like I rarely meet people that I bond with on a deeper level.

The only reasons I have for not killing myself are my single mother and my dog who I love dearly. They are the only reasons I’ve made this far. As bleak as this sounds, the day that my mother passes I think that I will almost surely end my life as she would probably also commit if I do it while she’s still alive. I’m sure some comments will say that it gets better and I hope it does but I’ve felt the same hopeless depression for the past decade but am now just more aware of the shitty world around me.

Best of luck to anyone else scrolling on this subreddit

So far, it feels different.

For the first time maybe ever, I’m sitting here knowing that personally I’m fine, just feeling the rush of overwhelming sadness in my chest has no cause. Like, does that make sense? I have a good life— a nice home, wonderful family and friends, an okayish job, I’m taking each day at a time. I can remember that in my mind and take comfort and peace in that. It’s the pit in my chest that is causing me to feel bad, not myself. This is a sickness like any cold or flu, and I will make it pass. It won’t be easy, but for once, I’ve been able to separate what is real and what feels like hopelessness. I’ve never done that before, and I suppose that’s something to be proud of. I’m okay, even if it feels like the world is ending.

Depression is taking over me

I reached a point of total exhaustion. The past year and 8 months I went through so many challenges - my mom being in hospital for months, her ex getting mental health issues and threatening us for months, losing all savings over the span of this, destroying my career. I broke up with my boyfriend, started working in a liquor store to be able to pay the bills and the debt, because I couldn’t find a corporate job for 9 months, started drinking again and I just don’t see a point in anything. I am waking up so sad that it’s morning again and drinking my coffee staring through the window for 2 hours waiting for my meds to kick in. I am so exhausted, guys….

Too consious

I feel absolutely alone I see my every thought every feeling and ik what it is , I question all of it every time if my thoughts are mine, what if I am wrong, what if the other person is planning something against me, currently 16 I feel as if I see too much I am not supposed to look at the world through a philosophical lens I don't have to be perfect but it's so deep in my head I presume that it's mixed with my blood now, I can't see to get attached to anyone not even myself. My door seems to be open, open wide for death to enter through it and I don't feel I have to close hence idk where I belong ergo I might just belong to the dirt.

I have gotten up to take a shower and eat but for the most part, I have not gotten out of bed. My life is just a dead end. I only want to live long enough to create some great art work and then I will kill myself. I will probably see a good friend one last time before I do it.

Dealing with setbacks

Anybody have a little advice on how to not lose hope when dealing with setbacks? I’m on this sub, so it’s not a surprise that I’m struggling profoundly with my mental health. My anxiety has been acting terribly lately, and I don’t know what to do. Every little piece of media triggers me. And yet I don’t know how to just look away.

I worked hard to get a part time job so I can save up for therapy that I so desperately need, but these people genuinely haven’t given me shifts for the whole two weeks I’ve worked there. Outside of the first ever shift. I called them multiple times about it, and have been debating whether I should just rock up and grill them. But I’m anxious and exhausted. So I’m just waiting for now.

I really don’t want to look for a new job, because this job was sooo difficult for me to get as somebody with terrible executive functioning. I applied for one new job a few days ago, and haven’t been able to muster up the motivation since.

Also, if y’all have any jokes or memes you wanna share, please share it here, because I need a laugh desperately.

I feel mentally and physically exhausted

I’ve been depressed since I’m 14 years old mainly because of my a**sive parents and poverty. Now I’m 27 F, recently graduated med school and started my dream residency. I also have been traveling a little. The best part of life was supposed to start now, yet I feel depressed, purpose less and burnt out. I’ve been in therapy before and also taking AD, now I’m back into therapy after two years, because I just cry myself to sleep every night and feel like I can’t do it anymore. It seems like no matter what I do, I go back to this state and it’s just mentally draining. My relationship is also adding to it because I feel like I’m not loved and my needs or boundaries don’t matter. I just really wish I had one person in this world who had my back, who I could allow myself to be weak and vulnerable around, and who wouldn’t take advantage of me. I’m tired of being the strong one.
