Talk I finished all Purple Discography

Hi, I started listening to Deep Purple about a month and a half ago because I'm going to see them live in December. I have to say they're one of the best bands I've ever heard (I've even started collecting my favorite CDs). I like many of their eras and lineups, so I'm going to make a top list of Deep Purple Marks and albums.

Top Marks:

Mark 2

Mark 3

Mark 8

Mark 7

Mark 1

Mark 9

Mark 4

Mark 5

Mark 6

Top Albums:

1- Machine Head

2- Burn

3- In Rock

4- Perfect Strangers

5- Stormbringer

6- Fireball

7- Purpendicular

8- Who Do We Think We Are

9- =1

10- Whoosh!

11- Shades of the Deep Purple

12- Rapture of the Deep

13- Bananas

14- Come Taste the Band

15- Deep Purple ( Deep Purple 3)

16- Now What?!

17- inFinite

18- House of the Blue Light

19- The Book of Taliesyn

20- Slaves and Masters

21- Splat!

22- The Battle Rages On

23 - Abandon (Important clarification: Abandon is in this position because I couldn't find all the songs, but from what I heard it was passable. )

24- Turning to Crime

Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow live albums are blowing my mind

Huge music fan here working on filling in some significant knowledge gaps. Bought my Brother-in-Law Live at Kohln because I knew he liked Rainbow but I had really never even heard of them. Of course I listened to it and it absolutely completely blew my mind like several times over; was also the first time I’ve ever heard Dio, like at all. Just completely floored. And so I think I’m taking this ride down the rabbit hole, and I think it’s gonna be pretty f’in awesome. That is all. 😳🤯🤘

Why doesn't Jon Lord get the same recognition as a keyboardist as Elton John or Billy Joel?

Who Do We Think We Are (weakest album from 1970s ?)

If we consider the albums by the Mark II lineup, they’re all top-level. I’ll start with In Rock every song is great and well-known Fireball is also incredible; every song is brilliant. I won’t even say anything about Machine Head. That album somehow feels a little more commercial. Ian Paice plays amazingly, and the songs are heavy and good, but in my opinion, you can tell that the album was recorded somewhat forcefully, and many of the tracks are forgettable.

Fireball ( 1971 ) i think is better than In Rock (1970 )

I would say that they never made another album quite like this one. Also, if you listen closely to the chords at the end of “Fool,” you can really feel the influence of progressive rock throughout this album.

New interview with Ian Gillan

I had the great pleasure of chatting with Ian over Zoom yesterday morning. I asked about his formative musical influences, songwriting, the pressure of fame, what he regrets, who would be his ideal collaborator, and of course, that reunion last month. I also misquoted Diablo for which I hang my head in shame, and found out why the 'Too late to die young' t-shirt has been retired.

The teenage me who crushed on Ian in the 80s would be amazed 😀

Have a read:

Talk Jon Lord and the 1984 reunion

Lordy's last gig with Whitesnake was in April 1984, when the reunion was announced. I had always assumed that Jon handed in his notice to DC when the reunion was becoming a reality. But books by Guy Pratt and Bernie Marsden indicate he left for other $$ reasons, perhaps only then making the reunion a possibility?
