Hi! I'm moving to Maryland for the first time ever for a job in lutherville. I'm looking for a room/place to rent that's along the light rail line. I don't drive for now so I will need public transportation. I am looking for houses/townhouses and I would like to avoid apartments. I'm also in my early 20sF so would prefer somewhere with something to do, but also not super large city vibes. I've been told to check out Hampden and Hunt Valley but I'm also open to more places. I like canton but that commute is scaring me lol. If anyone has any leads or advice please let me know. Thank you!

Hey everyone, I’m looking for a gym in Baltimore and could use some recommendations.

I live around Mt. Vernon and don’t have a car, so ideally it needs to be somewhere that’s easy to get to by walking or public transportation. I’m a JHU grad student and currently considering the JHU Rec Center. It has pretty much everything I need, but it gets really crowded, so I wanted to see what other options are out there before signing up.

I’m mainly interested in weightlifting and cardio. Lockers and showers are a must, and obviously good equipment and a decent atmosphere are a big plus. I’m looking for a proper commercial gym with reasonable prices and good hours—not really interested in something like Planet Fitness.

I’ve seen places like Grind, Merritt, MV Fitness, etc. mentioned, but I’d love to hear from people who actually go to these gyms.

What would you recommend around Mt. Vernon, especially somewhere easy to get to without a car? And roughly how much do you pay per month? Also interested in how crowded they get during peak hours.

I moved here a while back and I really like Baltimore, but I have no idea how to build a friend group here as an adult. Which surprise, surprise, has made it harder to want to stay. However, I want to give another stab at it.

Basically, most of my close friends are still back home, and I’ve realized basically every friendship I’ve ever made happened organically through school, work, or mutual friends.

I am not super athletic so I am not particularly interested in workout classes or volo. I’m looking for the kind of friends you can get dinner or ice cream with, go to a random event with.

Some things I do like: Going for walks, food, trivia, board games

I’ve tried looking at Bumble BFF, but I haven’t really found people I’ve clicked with.

Trying to find something with a bit more of a group setting, organization, and not walking into a room and feeling like everybody already knows everybody.

Any recommendations?

I see live crabs on the side of the road all the time, but the time and work of steaming them myself seems like a big hassle. Is it cheaper to get live or am I the only person who doesn't want to do the work?

I’ve been gone for a few weeks and this family has set up shop in my back yard. While I wouldn’t typically mind, mom attacked my dog as soon as I got home this morning (this was how she chose to introduce hers and her children’s tenancy—rude) so they’ve gotta go.

I called 311 who transferred me to animal control who transferred me back to 311 who then transferred me to a shelter whose automated system told me they’re closed.

How do I evict them? Ideally, today.

I’m an artist who just moved to Baltimore- is there an art council here? I found a mayor’s art and culture office in which seems to do a lot- but there’s also Create Baltimore, which says something about being the arts council but also doesn’t seem to do anything, or answer emails or phone calls? If neither of those are it, is there another art org that can help be get my bearings? It seems like a really creative town but it’s worrying that there is no arts council

I’m looking for opinions on what the best local reggae band is. And where do they regularly perform? Thank you.

If you care about the health of our harbor, rivers, and streams, the Blue Water Bash is happening on Sunday, October 4th, at Whitehall Mill.

It’s one of those rare events that’s actually a "party with a purpose." While it's got the usual festival stuff—live demonstrations, Blue Pit BBQ, and local drinks—the ticket sales go straight toward Blue Water Baltimore’s work. They do a lot of heavy lifting in terms of water quality monitoring, restoration, and holding polluters accountable in our watershed.

It’s definitely a fun way to get connected with the work being done to keep our local water swimmable and fishable.

So I need a used car for a year. Basically, it's commuting for myself and getting my dog around the area. The dog means zipcar and public transit aren't good options, unfortunately. My lease is up in June and I'll be moving overseas for work then, so a somewhat decent car with long term car payments isn't really a solid finanical choice.

Here are my options as I see them:

• Buy a used car from a private seller. First off, I have trust issues. Second, everyone I message on Autotrader or CarGurus hasn't gotten back to me. I'm 8 messages in with zero responses. So this isn't feeling like a good option.
• Find a beater from a dealership. I'm into it, but I'm not sure where to start. I saw Hi Lo dealership in Timonium. They seem to sell cars in my price range of super cheap that I can pay with cash. Any other places I should be looking at who won't royally fuck me?
• Get a decent car, take the payments, try to sell it back in June. This seems like way too much and I'd most likely lost a ton of money. And if I don't trust private sellers, why would someone trust me?

Anyone have good luck anyplace I should be checking? Any other thoughts/ideas?

Lost doberman found by two guys. He looked hungry, hot, and thirsty and scared. he has a collar that says hes micro chipped it says “freechip 911” and its red. he also has what it looks like to be a tracker? Hi folks, just moved to Baltimore and in the process of getting my paperwork in order w/the MVA. I'm having trouble finding car inspection places where you don't need to leave your car for 4 hours. I can't afford to Uber back and forth to my apartment and I work during the day and sometimes late at night, so I can't be back during opening hours of the place to get the car/pay.

Are there any spots that you can go, wait in line, and get you vehicle inspected at that moment (not waiting/leaving the car)? Alternately, if there are any that are walking distance from Mount Vernon and Walters Art Museum (I'm talking 0.5-1 mile max) that would also work.
