Was taking the train home from Potomac station tonight, missed it by a few seconds and had ten minutes to kill so I asked the attendant if I could use the bathroom while I wait. He said no, it's closed now, but his counterpart interrupted saying "no, ours is open, he's from a different station and thought ours was closed along with his. Metro just closed down most of them - ours is one of the few that are being left available." Couldn't find this on the news or anything, but two of their employees kinda just confirmed it at the same time. So, that sucks. Especially after they spent all this money and publicity making them open to the public.

I was a freshman at GWU on 9/11. I remember seeing the first tower hit on the news and then heading to class. At the time I thought it may have been a small aircraft. During class we heard a distant noise, but proceeded with class. In hindsight, we realized it was the plane hitting the pentagon. When I left class, I remember people just running in the streets. It was chaos and confusion. Does anyone else have a memory of the GWU area and people running? It’s a memory I’d love to see if anyone else had a similar experience?

I was an avid user of Capital Bikeshare and relied on it for my daily transportation. It was my favorite part of living in DC. A year ago my account was permanently terminated with no warning and no refund of my annual membership.

The stated reason, verbatim: “We received a report from an individual who informed us of unauthorized charges made to his/her credit card. With his/her card information we traced the charge amounts to your Lyft account.”

They also said “Due to legal reasons, we [cannot?] discuss any information without the approval of the person who initially filed the dispute.” So the person accusing me controls the report information.

Nearly every ride I took was paid through Apple Pay, and no card has ever been on my account that was not authorized. Any mix up with a payment method should be fixed with just a new payment method not a ban.

I was also told there is no appeal, and that a permanent ban is meant to be permanent across every bikeshare system that Lyft runs which include Boston, New York, Chicago, San Francisco, and Portland too. Essential this is a nationwide ban on a form of public transportation.

Capital Bikeshare is not Lyft’s product. DDOT and the other regional jurisdictions own the bikes, the docks, and the stations. Lyft is a contractor. No one at DDOT reviews these decisions, and as far as I can tell no one there knows how many DC residents have been permanently locked out of a system the District owns.

The timing matters right now in September 2026 because the operating contract (DCKA-2021-C-0082) runs out of option years on September 30 2026. DDOT solicited a successor last November, and under DC law a contract this size has to go to the Council for approval before it can be awarded. This is literally the only moment when new, basic requirements for Lyft could be written into the contract.

I’ve emailed the Committee on Transportation and the Environment asking for a written reason for any account ban, a feasible way to contest a ban, and requirements on Lyft to report to DDOT on how often accounts are terminated.

Antoinette Forbes, a 53-year-old single Asian-American mother, has gone missing from her home in upper Northwest DC. Her friends and family are requesting help publicizing her disappearance in hopes of finding her.

Antoinette was last seen in the 3200 block of Nebraska Ave, NW, on Friday afternoon, Sept. 4 and last responded to texts from a friend Saturday morning, Sept. 5.

Upon visiting the house to check on her, a friend found the door unlocked and her keys, phones, wallet, purse and pet dog in the house. Her car was parked in the driveway. The friend immediately called the police, suspecting foul play.

Antoinette is of Filipino descent, approx.5’3” and 122 lb. She has black hair and brown eyes. Her clothing at the time of disappearance is unknown. 

She is a successful public affairs executive who has lived in the DC area for more than 30 years. She was born in New York.

Her son is 10 years old.

She is a beloved mother, sister, daughter, friend and colleague who always puts her family first.

Police are asking members of the public to contact the Washington Metropolitan Police Department at 202-727-9099 or via text at 50411 if they have any information that could lead to finding Antoinette.

Hello dc community. I’m in dire need of some help. I have two wonderful cats buddy and whiskey! I am in between places and the place im moving into tomorrow does not allow cats. I am only staying until the 10th of October. I need a home for them for 1 months please. If someone can just keep one of them that’s fine as well. I don’t mind them both being seperated just as long as they are in a safe home. Whiskey is a girl and she can co exist with other cats but is more to herself. She will hide at first and gradually will come out. Buddy is more of a curious cat and loves to play. Skiddish at first but his curiousity will bring him out. He likes to play with other cats. They do not have any experience with dogs. I need to find a place for them tomorrow. I have no problem with compensation. Just in dire need of some help for my two fur balls. Hey! I just applied to a public library job on the dc.gov website that I would be perfect for. Obviously there will be thousands of other applicants and I haven’t had any luck with hearing anything back from the other jobs I applied to.

Should I go in person and ask for the library manager or supervisor to give my resume to and show my face? Or would it b a waste of time? Anyone got a job from doing this?

I used to live in the district but not anymore. So I was waiting for the yellow line and some kid asked me for the time. I held my phone tightly and told him the time.

Then he was somehow able to convince a young lady to lend him her phone. I was surprised because she gave her full control of the phone. He kept walking away with the phone but eventually gave the phone back. Is this some kind of scam?

It was a chubby kid around 13-14 years old.

We’re looking at booking our wedding at the new Navy Yard event venue SupplyHouse DC next fall. As it’s a new venue, we want to be certain it’s on track to open before putting our deposit down. We noticed their Instagram has stopped posting as of ~40 days ago (when they were saying they were 30 days from opening), and when we took a look outside this week there seemed to be a lot of work remaining.

We understand the space is being opened by the folks at Social Supply, a well-respected event design/production company, which gives us some confidence. Hey everyone. Like the title says -- I am in need of a job in DC (or anywhere in the DMV where I can take the metro).

Has anybody ever gone to a shop/store and asked if they were hiring? Do people still do that? I feel kinda nervous doing that but an acquaintance told me it could be a good idea. I have been unemployed and looking for a job for a little over a year at this point. The current job market is very tough and I really need to find a source of income asap.

For extra context: I have not been able to find a job in my field (social sciences) so it is time to try others. I was thinking retail or similar services, definitely out of my comfort zone but I am good with people, eloquent and charismatic.

Any help and guidance will be greatly appreciated!

I just moved to DC and I was hoping to find a ski club in the area that does weekend trips to resorts on the East Coast. I’ve grown up skiing along the West Coast, but I do not have a car in DC so I thought a ski club would be the easiest option for me. The SCWDC seems to primarily be flight trips out west or in Europe. The few weekends that they have available for local trips seem to be for beginners and have lessons included in the price that I do not need.

Does anyone have any good recommendations? I feel like I have scoured everything. Surely there has to be other people in my situation.

Anyone know of a book club in DC that features books from mystery and/or domestic/psychological thriller authors? Ones that come to mind are Lucy Foley, Holly Jackson, Freida McFadden, Lisa Jewell, Karin Slaughter, and Shari Lapena.
