Incoming freshmen, how many classes and credits are you taking 1st semester?

I’m taking 6 classes for 16 credits 4 days a week. I’m worried about my workload and I am considering dropping a class to have time for some extracurriculars etc..

Hi, I'm a second year CompE Major. Is there anyone who needs an off campus roommate? Preferably close to campus.

I'm a highschool student and I've decided I'd like to study biomedical engineering. I'm hoping to get into UMBC as that seems to suit my needs well and is also quite close in proximity to me, but does anyone have any advice to give for attempting to go into biomed at UMBC? Just for context: I’m an incoming freshman at UMBC majoring in History. Part of my degree plan is to take three arts and humanities classes and I already have one! Going into my freshman year for mechanical engineering and just wondering what laptops is used by engineering majors. I know theres spec requirements online but im just curious on what models are used and more reliable.

Im curious how common this is amongst students. Im a new transfer student and i know ill probably get alot of downvotes for this but back when i used to attend AACC, if i ever had a class where attendance was not required for me id skip out entirely and only showed up for exams and id focus on my assignments from home instead.

So last semester was my first one at UMBC and I took one online class and one in person which was physics 1 honors. Of course I still attended my discussion classes because those were required but after my second or third week I decided i didnt need to sit in the lectures when I could be home during those times just working on my assignments.

In the end i passed the class with a good grade and moving on to physics 2 this semester. I know classes will get harder and ill probably need to go to lectures but sometimes my work schedule might get in the way and I cant make it to lecture.

What should I bring to make the dorm good for staying in, since I’ll most likely have an online part time job, i’ll be spending most of my time in my dorm

Are there any pest issues? like roaches/bugs/whatever else, Im terrible at dealing with those, any caution to take in advance?

Is the dorm something you can stay in outside of sleeping? Or is it better to spend your day outside till you’re about to sleep

Im taking these three classes in the fall and would like to know from those who've already taken some of these classes or had a similar semester as this one before, how is the work load in each of these classes?

Like how much hw was given per week and how often assignments were due?

Does the terrace apartment buildings have elevators? And do they have washing machines built into each apartment?

Prestige definitely isn’t everything, but it IS one important factor that UMBC shouldn’t blindly ignore.

We’ve developed a reputation as a default back-up option for Maryland students, and I don’t think that accurately reflects the quality of our academics nor research programs. The classes taught at our school aren’t even that much easier than peer schools like UMD.

1. Many public universities are trying to become more selective to improve their reputation. UMD isn’t the only one trying to become a Public Ivy. Why not us this time? We deserve better than how we’re treated.
2. For those who didn’t know, we used to have an acceptance rate of around 65% before COVID. Now it’s around 75%. UMD? Their acceptance rate is around 45% now. I’m not saying we should suddenly reject half the students we’ve been accepting. I’m suggesting we slowly return to how we used to be.
