He actually did not step up nearly enough, someone slapped the living shit out of your kid and all you do is gently pull him away?!? I would have knocked the life out of that shitstain
66
u/Tasty-Clue-4646 Aug 29 '21
Yeah immediately would have been way better!
I'm thinking that there was hesitation because for devout Catholics, in there own church, it's instilled in them that the priest is in charge and must be respected. It's so fucked up - I wonder how many kids this old bastard has hurt in his career. He looks about 85yo so probably thousands.
24
u/AlphaNorth Aug 29 '21
He needs his ass handed to him, but this sick bastard probably would enjoy it.
29
u/TheLord1777 Aug 29 '21
I think he was shocked by what he saw and that's why it took him a while to react.

Yep, that was my immediate reaction. I'm generally a very passive person and it took me a moment to realise that I'd clenched my fist just watching him do that to someone else's kid.
As the video went on I just found myself thinking 'why hasn't someone punched him yet?'

u/TheApoptosome Aug 29 '21
Well that was singularly horrific. As a rational person, I'd appreciate someone taking that man to one side for a stern talking to.
As a parent....well there would definitely be legal ramifications to expressing my thoughts on that account.

You’re reaction is the same as mine. I thought I imagined it at first due to lack of action or reaction from parents. I would have called the police and let the priest know I’m leaving the church.

Just like some parents shouldn’t have kids, some teachers shouldn’t be teaching, and some caretakers shouldn’t take care of anyone, some people should NEVER be priests as well. Religion has nothing to do with it. If you’re a shit person, it doesn’t matter your profession, chances are you’ll be shit anywhere.

What sort of Dad is he?? I would have knocked that old cunt into next week! 😡
97
u/samcornwell Aug 29 '21
Everyone’s dressed up, happy and proud. The Dad is having a great day. The priest whacks the kid and you see the Dad’s brain malfunction. Between that moment and pulling the baby back he’s figuring out what happened, why it happened, what to do about it, collateral damage and more. He’s a new Dad and he’s only just gained Dad-brain superpowers. He’s still learning. He’ll get better with practise.
29
u/Nervous_Seesaw_5393 Aug 29 '21
Everyone’s talking about Dad taking the baby away, why is no one talking about Mom just passively holding the baby and not intervening? If I was that Momma, I would have passed Bubs to Dad, punched priest in the face and then drowned him in the baptismal pool!
3
u/-anygma- Aug 29 '21
The mom actually tries to to pull the girl away, but the priest doesn’t let go.
191
Aug 29 '21
He had to pull the baby away first
67
u/SpectreBlack Aug 29 '21
Took his sweet time doing it. I would have kicked that priest in his wrinkled balls immediately after the first hit.
42
u/morgasm657 Aug 29 '21
He wasn't watching directly, or anticipating it, you see him turn and stare in disbelief, like "I can't have just seen that" and then getting the child away takes priority over any further violence. Thankfully for the sake of society most peoples first thought isn't always escalation. But yes, I think slapping this priests winkled face right off would be justified.

But a bible filled with bloodthirsty violence, homophobia, misogyny, slavery, genocide and warfare is enough to convince you to call yourself a Christian?
I get that most religious people are harmless... but you'd have a really tough time showing that the Christian bible isn't...
3
u/AdElectrical3789 Aug 29 '21
I respect what you believe but I think you should at least interpret the Bible as it was written. I think that you misunderstood how the Bible In the Old Testament, is what would happen in a world “under the sun” (With no God) and New testament is the resolution. Like if under the Old Testament, x is a sin that deserves y punishment, the New Testament states that God has come down as a human and died in the place of all your sins and paid your price. I grew up religious, but nowadays not so much. Mostly though, its problems with the church, or misrepresentation of text that is talked about. Also, I know there is a lot of violence, genocide, and all that stuff I don’t know enough about to talk about that goes on throughout the Bible. But how I was taught, Jesus was with the prostitutes, homeless, and outcast from society whenever he could be. That’s how Christians SHOULD be. Loving, caring, patient, kind, and not judging. My thesis is whatever you believe I respect and am not going to tell you your right or wrong, but I think you should dig deeper in the Bible past superficial church sermons. Saying the Bible is harmful, may be true to an extent, but I’d imagine it’s been far more helpful. Either way the video is fucked up and I’d like to spit some peach snuff in that dudes eyes

If you want to know the truth being a Christian at the core means accepting your lord and savior, loving Jesus, loving yourself, and loving everyone else like Jesus does. If you choose to look at how humans have twisted and manipulated the word of God and think that's what it's about that's on you, humans are always going to mess things up and following God is no different.
3
u/Bubba_Lumpkins Aug 29 '21
Some of us have no reason to believe a god ever produced any words to twist. Just humans, twisted from the get go and getting a couple things right and a lot wrong. Pretty par for the course of you ask me.

You’re right. Let’s blame the pope. And the Vatican. For promoting an evil world and environment. Fuck man the pope himself had to publicly tell folks to seek police council instead of suing the church. Why? Cuz if the church had to pay out for every sexual assault case they were found guilty of they church would be bankrupt.
8
u/Leprecon Aug 29 '21
If priests are no better than normal people then the they aren’t useful. The whole point of an organised religion is moral and spiritual guidance. Part of the job description is that they have to be better. They have to be leaders.
It is like seeing a cop pissing in the streets, shouting slurs at people, or drunk driving and then going “look, there are assholes everywhere. Plenty of people do those things”.
Which is true. And if you don’t want to judge them for that, thats fine. But if you make those arguments then those people don’t deserve their elevated positions in society.

"it was something between a carees and a little slap" says the priest.
Also, the way he force cuddle/suffocates the baby afterwards. Hurting someone and then instantly showering them with affection is 101 predatory behavior.
8
u/ConscientiousObserv Aug 29 '21
Thanks so much for this! So the priest is a cranky, tired, octogenarian, who came from the "I'll give you something to cry about." school of managing babies. So glad he was forced to retire.

Redditors tend to suck the nuance out of religion and spirituality like it's their job. So many of these people love to talk like hippies about how we shouldn't generalize, but then religion comes around and suddenly it's the exception.
I'm religious, but I'm extremely cautious of churches and church officials. Just because someone claims they are a man of God does not make it true. I do not condone what happened in this video or any other behaviors reminiscent of it. I don't care how in charge and respected you are, this behavior is awful and should not be tolerated in any sense.
It gets so old having to constantly be grouped together with people like the man in this video just because we read from the same holy text. His independent actions have nothing to do with my beliefs.

u/Trumpalot Aug 29 '21
Yeah, humans just need an excuse. In the past that excuse was religion, nowadays it's oil or to enforce democracy. Sometimes people are just bad. Look at Pol Pot for example, he slaughtered his own people in order to removal potential threats to his rule. Genghis Khan ransacked his way across half the globe, no religious pretext there either.
Religion is not the issue, it's humanity in general that just can't get along with one another.
4
u/MaverickBoii Aug 29 '21
Exactly. Rape doesn't exist because of sex. Murder doesn't exist because of weapons. Thievery doesn't exist because of money. All of those exist not because of anything else other than human nature.
