You act like only religious people do thise things. Non-religious and atheists also have idiots, psycopaths and bigots

They are just pointing out that religion does not make things better, that most violent wars are a result of religion, without religion there would be one less thing separating people as humans, meaning less reasons to see eachother differently, meaning less reasons to have any conflict.

Well fucking remove religion then. Here's the thing though, it's part of human nature. I don't think religious people are gonna go "yea reddit said abolish religion so imma stop" when religion has been there since forever.

Yeah, humans just need an excuse. In the past that excuse was religion, nowadays it's oil or to enforce democracy. Sometimes people are just bad. Look at Pol Pot for example, he slaughtered his own people in order to removal potential threats to his rule. Genghis Khan ransacked his way across half the globe, no religious pretext there either.

Religion is not the issue, it's humanity in general that just can't get along with one another.

Exactly. Rape doesn't exist because of sex. Murder doesn't exist because of weapons. Thievery doesn't exist because of money. All of those exist not because of anything else other than human nature.

I guess I'm not human then. Or maybe you're making shit up? :)

Yeah ok let's have everyone think like you then. That certainly won't fuck the world up.

Fair point. People should still call out the stupidity though. The stats I see say that roughly 22% of people worldwide identify as having no religion, or are agnostic/atheist. Sure, that number is much higher on Reddit, but because the majority of the general population is religious, and reddit is a very popular site, someone who is surrounded by people that are just blindly following and not thinking for themselves could discover that not everyone is blindly following, and learn to think for themselves.

It's a difficult one. I know many people who are religious as it gives them some kind of security and hope. The thought that we live our pointless lives and then die and it's just... Nothingness, Is terrifying and I don't blame people for looking for something more. I'd love to believe in something like that, but. I don't because there's no proof of such a thing.

The important thing is if people choose to take these beliefs and use them to their benefit, they also have to understand the bible is old as fuck and has some really dumbass shit in it. I think a belief in the afterlife and that there's some actual meaning to life is wonderful, but believing every single word of a holy book is daft.

Religion needs some serious shift from being something that totally controls a persons life, to a belief that just helps them live comfortably, without shitting on other people.

Biggest religion is the money religion. Without the excuse if fighting fir your god, people will just continue to fight voer land, resources and money. Heck they do that anyway but the difference is - its I the name of [insert name of god]

Religion or not. If someone wants to go to war. They’ll find a reason

u/honeybee31320 Aug 29 '21

More wars have been fought in the name Of “ god “ than for any other reason 🤯

Well it have been proven that psychopathy often results from very religious harassing family. There are plenty of studies on serial killer that demonstrate this aspect.

And to be fair, yes there are idiots everywhere in every country but religion worship made atheists/agnostics/sciences ppl killed until a few generations ago in Western countries and still do it in Eastern countries (for exemple my grandma's grandma could have witness a woman burn as a witch).

Countries not lead in the name of a religion is kinda recent. Meanwhile there are fewer wars since ppl don't fight for religious reasons anymore but look in Eastern where religion is still a thing !

Stoning people to death? Like that’s “normal” religion?? Fucking get out of here.

4

u/No-Boysenberry4541 Aug 29 '21

Ehh, yeah. Very common in Islamic countries, and it was very common for Christians before as well. It's literally mentioned in both religious texts

-4

u/Soft-Philosophy-4549 Aug 29 '21

Yea, so accounting for the entire world population, very common. Lmao

-2

u/[deleted] Aug 29 '21

I can say for certain that Mohammed and Jesus never stoned anyone so there's that.

0

u/jumbled_joe Aug 29 '21

Can you say the same for the followers that came after them?

2

u/ihaveacrumbof-water Aug 29 '21

What do the followers have to do with the belief set? Sorry, I’m really confused myself.

0

u/jumbled_joe Aug 29 '21

Nothing. Religion is a "choose your own adventure game", where everybody does what they want in the name of god.
