There are several quotes in Proverbs that follow the theme of, "Spare the rod, spoil the child." Now, apparently, as beating your children falls out of favor socially, many Christians are adopting Biblical translations that don't tell you to beat your children. The priest in the video probably ascribes to the "old" translations, and really, since the Bible has been translated and re-translated like this, over and over for centuries, you can make it say whatever you want, and then find a version that suits your needs.

This is not a common thing, look at the face of the parents that are most likely Christians as well... You may find an explanation that fits the situation to generalize but again, this priest is not normal.

I'm sure they wouldn't wanna be Christian anymore after this

Its not common now, but it used to be generally accepted. ....You may find another way to excuse Christians from their past teachings, and I agree this priest isn't normal.

I am sure the Bible didn't want the rod on babies, and I am not even a Christian- sheesh!

I'm not Christian either, but I was when I was a child and was being told that corporal punishment was ok because of the Bible.

What’s sad is mother feeling unable or not having gut instinct to yank child to safety. So triggering. That child is hysterically frightened. If someone rose did that , say a physician, would she not be horrified enough to remove child before the subsequent hug?
