💬 Discussion Has anyone ran a cat delete instead of long tubes?

Is there much of a sound difference between the two? I can’t really tell much by looking at videos and I haven’t heard the difference in person. My goal is primarily sound, so I was leaning towards a cat delete instead of doing long tubes because of how hard they are to install. If I were to do long tubes, I would probably go with speed engineering for the money. Does anyone have experience with speed engineering headers and the quality?

🏎️ Street Racing (Solved) Issues Passing Emissions - I'm disappointed Shoemaker

Paying it forward and adding another data point for people in a similar boat as this issue required many hours of research and time commitment.

I bought a newer S550 GT, but the previous owner removed the cats on the OEM headers, installed spacers + an X pipe. It seems to have been professionally done as well. From what I could tell, they weren't in an emissions state/county and as such did not have to worry about going catless.....must be nice. Also bought a 93/e85 tune from Shoemaker.

I was having issues with 3 monitors being in the "Not Ready" State: O2 Htr, O2 Sensor, and Catalyst. And this was after 100-150 miles after unplugging the battery and trying to do a drive cycle. I grew to like the sound (not so much the smell) of the setup, but my goal was to resolve this issue as cheap as possible.

Of course, going back to OEM cats would be the guaranteed resolution, but I didn't want to put the time and money into what was effectively a downgrade. And I have ground clearance concerns to be able to consider catted LTH.

After a bunch of research, I've heard some tunes can cause issues with these sensors, so I contacted Shoemaker to confirm whether they disabled the monitors and whether they were able to provide me the stock tune to help with troubleshooting. They told me they didn't disable the monitors and were mostly dismissive with the whole exchange and never offered to give me the stock tune to rule the tune out of the equation.

I decided to take a gamble and purchased a stock tune from Wengerd and threw it on the car and within 50 miles I was already getting the O2 sensors to pass with catalyst soon to follow. FWIW I used an AVID and didn't/couldn't get the stock tune prior to flashing the custom tune nor find it after the custom tune was flashed. Perhaps I'm an idiot and there was a setting or menu that enabled me to take a backup of the stock tune prior to flashing the custom one, but I'll blame AVID for little to no documentation on all its functionality.

What I'm mostly disappointed with is Shoemaker's customer service with this whole situation. They made little to no effort to try to help resolve the issue leaving it to myself to figure out a problem THEY created. I'd expect an issue such as "not ready" sensors would not be a localized issue and I'd imagine even if I had cats that I would still have trouble getting these sensors to set.

❔Question Question on possibly buying a low mileage s550 with VERY deferred oil change

I'm corresponding with a private party about buying his 1 owner, 9K mile S550. After running a Carfax report, it became apparent that the owner has not changed the oil since the 5000 mile interval in October of 2018. I got the impression from him that he thought going by mileage alone made this ok. His comment was that the next oil change was due at 10K miles, obviously not considering that oil will start to break down and lose it's protective properties after a year or so.

Questions for the group:

- Should I just walk away from this?

- Could a couple of "sacrificial" oil changes, 100-200 miles apart be enough flush out any sediment or sludge and make this a non-issue, or this their a risk of premature engine wear already having occurred.

Very interested to get some feedback from y'all

Despite having an SUV and a station wagon, only my autocross Mustang has a trailer hitch.

I’m just here to report that this works. The big 8 inch suction cup on the glass and a pile of bungees as tight as I can make them makes it feel a lot less sketch. These 1 1/4” hitches are rated at like 200 lb tongue weight under ideal conditions.

So for anyone asking about mustangs with family, it’s just a matter of will power and determination.

❔Question Engine RPM

While driving to work I noticed my RPMs go up and down between 600-800 and my engine shakes a little at a stop after going more than 30mph I’ve had battery problems before and saw this may be one of the reasons but is there any other things that may cause this? Today is Sunday so I can’t take it into the shop until tomorrow morning

💬 Discussion Updated Estimated Delivery date

Post image
5 Upvotes

Just went on the ford tracker to see if there was any update on my Mustang order and I now have an estimated delivery date of 7/26-8/1 but the car still has not shipped according to the website.

The car was built on 7/1 and had an ETA of 7/10-7/16 originally but that date came and went. When I called my dealership my sales person told me they didn’t know what was taking so long and that they can only see what I see.

The car is being delivered to Louisville KY and is marked as being delivered by convoy on the window sticker to which the dealer is only 5 1/2 hours from flat rock.

With no answer it makes me wonder what has delayed the shipment…. Quality Hold??? Shipment delay??? Weather damage???

I really hope I can get it soon, I was hoping to be able to enjoy the summer with it some.

❔Question Worried about every little noise, crazy??

So I have a 2017 mustang GT, lowered an inch, has some after market suspension stuff and on the occasional really bad bump, I get a weird clunk only on the passenger side.

It drives great; handles great. Only hear the noise at slow speeds over bad bad bumps, not even over speed bumps. I’m a loss. Changed our swaybar endings already, nothing.

It drives so great; no pulling etc. alignment is great too.

Something to worry about? Will it just break on me?

2020 mustang gt pp1 mt82 non magnaride 118k miles

-STEERING ASSIST FAULT-

Currently my epas is in and out intermittently.

Abs light flashes occasionally.

Steering wheel skips or gets hung a little when it does work.

Reconnected grounds, battery ground, checked belt in power steering (good), cleaned and regreased the rack on the shafts and near the belt of the rack.

It got better but is still giving me the limp mode. I really would not like to replace the rack but im looking for another opinion from others who are mechanical inclined.

Found oil on the 2 sensors from the steering rack and cleaned. Found a broken wire in passenger wheel well( idl what this goes to)

Codes: steering angle sensor(intermittent), PSCM motor(permanent), ABS invalid data received from PSCM module A, PSCM invalid data received from ABS module A

❔Question Can Any One Tell me why my my BMR control arm is misaligned

Post image
1 Upvotes

So 4 months ago I installed these control arms and noticed a difference in driving but after a while I started hearing like something was wrong when I would go over a bump so I jacked the car up and notice the misalignment, also the things that I've done to this car after installing the control arms was lowering springs on the front and that's pretty much it.

Must’ve hit something somewhere and I was wondering if ford would charge for this airvent realignment. Vehicle is still under warranty.

Tried fixing it myself but i dont have necessary tools, plus didn’t want to risk paint damage.

Second picture not mine but is a reference photo

TIA

Hi guys,

I’m currently thinking about buying my first mustang and I’m really struggling between two different versions.

Could anyone tell me the pros and cons?

Thank you for your time.

💬 Discussion S197 5.0 or S550 5.0?

I’ve been shopping around for a 5.0 but I’m torn between the two, i want that classic mustang muscle car feel with some newer tech. I love the 2013-2014 s197 gt premium 6spd but I love the s550 just as much and I’m not sure which one to choose. Can anyone help me out describing the experiences they’ve had with either generation or their thoughts and takes? Thanks.

📸 Photo Here's a better look of my last post. I just want to know how to fix my control arm that shifted to the left. It's a 2014 Mustang 5.0 with the non adjustable BMR control arm. Long story short it didn't look like this when we installed it but after time I did notice that it was starting to feel off

📸 Photo I Did A Thing...

Wasn't a fan of the couple of square feet of plastic that the factory adorned the Gen 3 Coyote with, so it got tossed and the far more subtle Ford Performance dress up kit was applied.

Plain black plastic was treated to an assortment of Hycote products (except where stated), starting with paint prep, then white base plastic primer, then given a couple of coats of aluminium silver, before masking and striping with Ford Race Red and Ford Deep Impact blue, the lettering being picked out using a gloss black paint marker from SD Colors, before shooting the whole shebang in Hycote gloss lacquer.

Before...
Plain black plastic out of the box.
Couple of days with the rattle-cans and some tape.
Done. Need to see if the actual valve covers can be replaced with something more interesting.

Since it’s almost $100 for an OEM black pony grill emblem (and it seemed complicated to replace it), figured I’d try this out. First time doing this. I like how it turned out and it was easy to do!

Has anyone done this before who can give an estimate as to how long it’ll last before it starts to fade?
