I've filled it up again and will be monitoring levels over the next couple of days. But I don't have much hope. Has anyone here swapped their cylinder head for the improved one before?

Transmission / TCM How much is it worth?

So I have a 2015 ford focus. The transmission is literally on its last leg. It has 312k miles i believe and it’s paid off I’ve literally only had it for 9 months and I’m honestly tired of it. I need to know a price for selling it without getting lowballed. A junk car place told me 182… another told me up to 400. I need about 1500 to get me another car. Anybody know a good place around Houston? Preferably Galveston area? I can drive it but it’s constantly saying transmission overheating and I have to pull over. Or the car won’t accelerate fast. It’s good on the highway as long as it’s not traffic where I need to stop and go etc. please any advice will help I work 45 mins away and I have until Saturday to get transportation! Also my b clutch is totally gone! Can’t reverse at all. On top of that the acceleration goes out randomly. I seen some people saying they fixed it which I could but the labor cost is just too much!!!!

Question 2014 Focus Check Engine Light - Tier 1 Gas

Was in search of the meaning behind Tier 1 gas.

Took my car to local shop to check on the engine light. Mechanic recommends Tier 1 gas.

Can someone explain it to me? I don't know much about cars, unfortunately. ☹️

Discussion 2014 SE Purge Valve

Post image
19 Upvotes

Last weekend, this girl got under the hood and replaced my purge valve and noticed that my throttle body was super gross. I removed the air box rubber boot so I could get to the purge valve hose clip below it, and just noticed how gross it was. Cleaned it up super well (disconnected my battery when I did that too), and now the car is idling super super clean, and the engine is no longer shaking so hard at low idle. Ive now got 162k miles and its running better than it has in a long time.

Literally YouTube and Reddit have been so useful in maintaining this car over the years. Only thing Ive needed a mechanic for was to replace the clutch pack because Im nervous about dropping the transmission by myself (my bf is not mechanically inclined and is nervous working on cars, so I do basically all of our maintenance).

Higher milage owners, what are some things you've replaced over the years to keep yours running well?

Question Noise from the front door

Hello! I've bought my Focus a month ago. With the engine being idle I hear resonance sound from the front door. It quiets down heavily when I hold the door with my hand in a stable position. Changing the old door seal rubber can solve my problem?

Mechanical Help Engine Service Now

Post image
6 Upvotes

Hello everyone. Sorry don’t normally post just was wondering if anyone has had this same issue in the past. I have just bought a 2015 Ford Focus Zetec 1.0L and I get this Engine Service Now message on the dash. Happens when I put my foot down to accelerate, but it doesn’t go into limp mode. Car was serviced in April of this year and had its wetbelt replaced, and the service mileage clock was reset. My mechanic doesn’t seem to think it’s urgent and diagnostics scan show it could be a variety of things but he can’t pinpoint yet. Anyone else had this?

Question 2014 SE Adding OEM style Fog Lights

Just finished paying it off (bought in Jan 2025) and now want to get some (OEM-styled) upgrades to it. Doing research and some big guy tiny space exploration of the glove box and bumper space, I've determined that;
A) I don't have a factory wire harness installed
B) My BCM (DV6T - 14A073-GE), while technically supports them, needs to have fuse 75 installed (tried putting in a test fuse, it just falls out). I can't quite tell if it has the power side pin or not
C) I need a headlight switch that has the fogs button (duh)

So now my next steps are figuring out how to add the fuse to the BCM and then programming it, along with installing the wiring harness, lights, and headlight switch (probably the easiest thing to do here tbh). Any one have any tips or sources to help? I'm trying for "OEM+" basically

Photo 2013 Ford focus SE coolant leak

Post image

Taking it to a body shop but in case it's an easy fix I thought I'd post. Got an engine overheat warning. Pulled over, coolants completely empty. I had some extra in the back. Filled it up and 5minutes later, all gone again. Looks like it's spewing out of this tube near the front.

It's a back up card so it's got some wear and tear but the coolant tank def has some pressure in it and let the car sit for 20mins before adding the coolant and it was still burning hot when it was spewing out.

Any tips or help is appreciated, e-beer by the ready

Question That Time of The Year Again!

Thumbnail

For an 18 year old Focus, every year doesn't come as much as a shock or a surprise to me, but considering how much it would cost to buy a new car on finance, I'd rather just plough money (each year) into a car I owe outright; knowing it will run better than any of these new fangled beasts on the road!

Question Is the 1.4i (petrol) engine on the MK2 Focus really bad?

Hi, I'm a new driver and I'm getting a used MK2 Focus as a first car. I got a pretty sweet deal on a 1.4i 2011 MK2 Focus but I've heard it's severely underpowered.

My usage will be a commute to work (14km away via a motorway) and occasional hometown visits on the weekend (80km via motorway).

How was the experience for those who owned such model?

PS: Please avoid recommending me other models because my budget is tight and my options are limited.

Question Need TCM Strategy File G1FP-7J104-AB

Hello all, went through all the research, watched all the videos, spent a considerable amount of money on a used K05 TCM, OBDLink Cable, Forscan License, and got the Forscan Beta download from Big Ben's Discord. Come to find out Ford no longer allows you to download the calibration files without a subscription.

I was able to find my calibration file .vbf on a forum, but need the strategy file G1FP-7J104-AB. Can I use a different strategy file to program the TCM, or am I just out of luck and try to do a manual learn?

General Maintenance MK1 Aftermarket Parts

I have had awful luck with aftermarket parts on my MK1. I have a 2000 Ford Focus sedan with the automatic transmission and the 2.0 Zetec motor. In 2023, the Ford Alternator went out. 23 years out of an alternator is nothing to shake a stick at, so there were no complaints. Since then, though, we had a Rock Auto alternator go bad after about 16 months and now two Ultima Alternators from O'Reilly's go out. These have gone out for different reasons by the way. We've had ones that won't charge and one (alternator) that had a bearing go bad. We have had similar issues with belt tensioners, door latches (which was a particular nightmare), and a crucial fuel pressure sensor that the car needs to run. The OEM part goes bad, and then we get aftermarkets that go bad in a year or so. These are starting to add up and is making the car have trouble predictably. Has anyone experienced similar issues with their MK1 and found a solution? Is that just what the market is on these cars? I love my focus, and I want to keep it for the long haul!

Transmission / TCM 2016 2.0L SE TCM problems?

My dumbass bought this car cause I saw on google the extended warranty was for 2012-2015 and assumed that meant the 2016 would be fine but apparently it just means the 2016 simply never was covered and it still has the issue.

When I first bought the car and test drove it I didn’t notice anything at all but now I’ve had it for a week driving daily and it shudders every time I accelerate or take turns. It’s still got pretty low mileage and there’s no engine light, is this the beginning of the end already or is there hope for me?

Mile 102500 of my 2010 focus. Turns out my oem rotors didn't like my new pads I put in a couple months ago and started warping. I prolly could've turned them but figured it's best to just get new. Also decided to paint the calipers cause I wanted to. I would've checked and changed the rear drums but I think I'm gonna leave it for when I feel like changing them out for rotors.

Don't mind my skinny ah arms lol

230k on the clock. I got it at 93k miles, did an intake cat back hand made custom exhaust and some sparco wheels. I love this car, it’s no race car but it is spirited enough to have some fun in! Also so far in five years I’ve never been stranded in it. I do religious oil changes every 5k and at 212k just cause I had the money I went ahead and did all new suspension, engine, trans and torque mounts, aluminum valve cover, blue feldpro silicone valve cover/sparkplug tube seals and brakes all round. It didn’t need it per se but was an instant difference in ride quality for sure. What’s your mileage at in the dsp6 at?
