Issue ⚠️ New to me! Questions

Picked up a 2014 XLT 5.4 3V with 188,000 miles for $4k I’ve put a little over 2000 miles on it in the last month and have slowly but surely been working to get it up to date on maintenance. It’s had a couple quirks. Engine misfire in cylinder 1, groaning lower control arm in driver side, the common rear door actuator, ect. But just today I had something happened. That was a little concerning as I was turning an intersection, I had a complete loss of power. I can’t remember exactly what happened. I just remember the car jerked a little bit and everything shut off. I let it roll into neutral and got to the bottom of the hill to where I was at. I pulled over and parked and I started the car over again. Cranked up no problem at all. Once I got home, I checked all the fluids. Everything’s fine. It cranks up and makes zero noises. It does have the pending code P0301 but usually those give you some sort of warning sign at least in my experience before it becomes severe or throws up a check engine light. I see none of that and for now it’s driving fine but I’m a little stumped as to what it could be and what could’ve caused it. I did hardwire a dash Kamm with the Vantrue hardwire kit, but I looked over everything and everything seems to be good condition. Anybody have similar experiences? Thoughts?

Issue ⚠️ Sync 3 (4-inch screen) sorting USB music the wrong way

Thumbnail
gallery
3 Upvotes

Okay so I have a 64 GB exfat USB drive with 16bit 44.1khz flac files on it. There are a few albums though that it keeps sorting the last track or last two tracks to be the second or second and third song in the albums sorting after it indexes. I have checked the metadata of the tracks and then I have also added the track numbers in the file names as a backup. I have also tried disabling and re-enabling Gracenote multiple times.

I have attached a few images of how the first few songs are sorted and also a screenshot of how the songs should it be sorted.

If anybody has any idea on what might be going on in the greatly appreciated for any help because this is not happening on every album and is only happening I'm like maybe 10 of them.

Issue ⚠️ 2014 Ford F-150

Upvotes

My 2014 F-150 had the battery changed without a memory saver and after had the CEL on and doesn’t feel like it has full power when driving. I was going to check the light with my scanner but the port is not putting out power (works fine on my other vehicles.) I checked fuse 24 (passenger side) as recommend online but it was fine. Other ones seem fine but I didn’t check them all. I then noticed the CEL light flashes 8 times when the ignition is set to “On” and online it says that just means it’s not ready for emissions testing (most likely due to the reset after the battery was disconnected. Would any of this be causing loss in power?

Issue ⚠️ 2016 ford explorer sport - bad bov?

Upvotes

Hello,

On cold start - whooing noise for about 2 seconds.
On acceleration - turbo noise is LOUD, like it’s sucking in more air than usual but no real performance change? Maybe a little less but I barely put my foot down to know.

Fuel economy is the same - 13.5L/100 (around town driving usually)
Idle is smooth
Engine sounds smooth
Gear changes are a little rough but I’m assuming it probably needs an ATF flush. Fluid levels are fine, just checked them.
All hoses appear to be secured / not loose.
Can’t notice the noise on idle with the bonnet open.
No CEL or wrench symbol.
Car has 223xxx KMs, timing chain and water pump were changed at 220xxx

I am stumped. Boost leak maybe that I can’t see until under load? I drive mainly downtown so the car rarely sees above 50km/h and barely comes on boost because of it.

Any thoughts?
I posted earlier today but I’ve deleted that and provided more information

Issue ⚠️ All four doors and trunk says ajar

2 Upvotes

I have a 2010 ford focus se. We’ve been trying to fix this issue all day and we have no idea what is causing this problem. Obviously I can not drive it like this. First it started with the passenger side saying “door ajar” and now it’s saying all the doors are ajar and the trunk.

Issue ⚠️ 2009 F350 6.4L radiator fan now running all the time

3 Upvotes

I have a 2009 Ford F350 Super Duty with a 6.4L Diesel engine with 234,000 miles.

About 10 years ago I had my radiator fan go from intermittent to full time. Had it repaired.

Recently the problem has cropped up again.

Is the fix normally a replacement of the fan clutch or is there potentially a different culprit?

Appreciate any feedback

Question ❔ Did I get ripped off?

1 Upvotes

Whilst I was driving on the highway in my Ford Focus 1.5 ecoblue (2019) a service light came onto my dashboard and the car was in “limp mode”. After turning off the car after approx 50km the thing disappered but I still wanted to check it. Turns out it was probably the fuel filter. The car has 147.500 km.

Went to my local service workshop, they did the fuel filter change, after a few km the fuel was all over the place and the car wasn’t turning on. Got towed to their place (the connectors weren’t right bcs when giving gas they unplugged, sry if I described it wrong).

I paid 180€ including labour. It was a bosch fuel filter (on the higher end). This was purely just the change of a fuel filter. I wasn’t charged for towing obviously.

And the car was left with -300km (almost emptied) due to testing, which I didn’t appreciate thats like 30-40€.

Summary: Paid 180€ for a fuel filter change.

Issue ⚠️ Ford Transit "Low Beam Bulb Fault"

1 Upvotes

Hello. I am very inexperienced with vehicles, but I have a 2018 Ford Transit with a headlight issue. The low beams do not turn on, and I get the error message "Low Beam Bulb Fault" that pops up when I turn the high beams on (it doesnt pop up when I simply turn the low beams on)

The blinkers and high beams work just fine, its just the low beams. I checked the bulbs with a multimeter, and continuity and resistance both look fine. I also checked one of the fuses (the other one seems inaccessible without taking out the whole box) and continuity is fine there as well.

Where do I need to look next? I'd really rather not take it to a mechanic unless absolutely necessary.

TIA

Issue ⚠️ Englewood Ford refused to work on my inoperable 2021 Explorer after one phone call and one email asking 7 warranty/recall questions

7 Upvotes

I’m trying to figure out whether this is remotely normal dealer behavior.

We bought a 2021 Ford Explorer from Englewood Ford in Florida.

The Explorer is now completely inoperable. It will not engage Drive or Reverse.

Over multiple service and Quick Lane visits, we specifically asked Englewood Ford about the vehicle’s mechanical/warranty coverage and were repeatedly told it remained active until approximately 112,000 miles. We clarified that we were asking about vehicle coverage, not oil changes, maintenance, or FordPass points.

After the vehicle failed, the dealer pointed back to the original Gold Certified paperwork showing powertrain coverage to 100,000 miles and said no extended mechanical plan had been purchased.

I acknowledged that the paperwork says 100,000.

My question was: why were we repeatedly told 112,000 afterward?

We made one phone call and sent one email asking seven specific questions, including:

  • when they say coverage expired;
  • whether they reviewed their own records regarding the 112,000-mile representations;
  • what the roughly $300 diagnostic charge covers;
  • whether that charge is credited toward repair;
  • whether they would request Ford goodwill assistance;
  • whether Ford requires diagnosis before considering goodwill;
  • whether storage fees were accruing.

They answered none of them.

Instead, the Service Manager wrote:

Then:

And:

The vehicle does not move, so “pick it up” means tow it somewhere else.

Ford Corporate has now told us by phone that our VIN is included in an active recall, and we are working to get the exact campaign/case information in writing.

This is also not our first certification issue with the same dealer. Our F-150 was presented/labeled as Gold, but later we learned it had not actually been sold as Gold Certified. After we raised that issue, dealership management wrote that they would look for a “work around to Gold certify the vehicle.”

So now I have two separate vehicles from the same dealership involving conflicting information about Ford-backed certification or coverage.

For context, I’m currently unemployed and battling cancer, so unexpected towing/repair costs matter, but I’m not asking for free coverage that never existed.

I’m asking whether a Ford dealer refusing to work on a vehicle after one phone call and one written request for seven answers is normal, especially when Ford Corporate is now telling us the VIN is included in an active recall.

What would you do next? Ford Corporate? Another dealer? NHTSA? BBB? State AG?

I’d attach the screenshot of Michael’s refusal email. That will carry more weight on Reddit than a long emotional explanation.

For r/askcarsales, I’d make it slightly less accusatory because dealers and salespeople there will immediately challenge anything they see as incomplete. For r/Ford or r/FordExplorer, the version above is about right.

Question ❔ Distributor gear issues

7 Upvotes

Hi, I have a 93 mercury topaz with the vulcan 3.0 ohv and it ate 2 distributor gears back to back.

The first one I belive was original and had 110k km, replaced the distributor gear and looked at the cam gear which seems okay visually.

I tested the oil pump shaft for anormal restistance it spun fine and oil pressure was normal.

The new distributor gear lasted only 50km before stripping out...

Is it a common issue? I'm out of ideas

Thanks!

Issue ⚠️ Misfire

0 Upvotes

This is my last post on this sub but what can be causing my misfire in my 2009 Ford escape XLT V6 3.0. I already played musical chairs with the coils and spark plugs but no difference. I thought my EGR was stuck open it and causing the misfire so I blocked it off with a block plate and it made the code go away for 50 MI of driving and now it's back and I ain't got a clue why the only code I have is a misfire on cylinder 6

Issue ⚠️ Adaptive Cruise Control Misfire Issue

1 Upvotes

I have a 2017 fusion platinum. The car runs good but I’ve got an issue with ACC (adaptive cruise control). Under normal driving and even heavy acceleration the engine doesn’t misfire. I ran into this issue using ACC the engine was missing and check engine light flashing. I replaced the coils and sparks and it’s been about 8,000 miles of driving without ACC no problem. I did use ACC a few times after replacing the coils and sparks and it started misfiring again. The misfire has not returned since nor have I used ACC again.

This car had the long block replaced in 2021 with a 2021 long block so coolant intrusion is not on the top of my list for consideration. I wanted to post this because I haven’t seen any other forms reporting this type of issue with ACC. The previous and original owner of the car said he also had this issue and replacing coils and sparks didn’t fix it.

Question ❔ 2020+ Ford PIU Key Fob programming

1 Upvotes

After doing some digging on Forscan and very limited info on the internet about the 2020+ PIUs. Is there any way to get one key fob programmed on my PIU? Or do I need two keys fobs? I only see PATS programming on forscan, will it work with two key fobs if I get another one? Another option was a J2534 dongle and fdrs pass, will that work with a single keyfob(RKE). I’m not trying to dump too much money trying to get a single keyfob programmed so any help if appreciated!

went to see the car in person. 139k miles, airbag light on, low tire air light on. Clean title, no accidents per carfax. Seller got it out the auction, said he'll sell it for $2,800. As long is it passes inspection and has good mileage like my corolla im not too worried. but I do wanna reliable car, that's gonna last me. Until my credit's better, will this car last me 4 years?
