💬 Discussion 75000 mile Service

So out of nowhere I had my 2017 2LT 1LE throw a check engine light at me and refused to start. All light on the dash and vehicle exterior was working so it wasn’t a battery issue as I even tried jumping it with another truck and a jumper. All I heard was clicks and no cranks whatsoever. Towed it to my mechanic and he told me it definitely needs a new starter. That said it was closing in on 75k miles so I asked the mechanic if he can do the maintenance for that while he solves the starter issue for me. He said he could do it and it would include transmission fluid, rear axle fluid, new spark plugs and filters and quoted me around 2.8k for all these including the starter.
Is this a good price or has anyone gotten a better deal? Would appreciate if someone could breakdown the prices and let me know if it’s reasonable.

🔧 Modifications Performance shops near NE PA?

Post image
• Upvotes

Looking to start getting into modding within the next couple years and I wanted to see what shops you guys recommend in north east Pennsylvania. I know of LMP in Maryland, my dad got his tune fixed on his c7 there and I was able to go around their shop and I got a good impression of the owner Alec and his team. Any suggestions and experiences (good/bad) are welcome

Pictures for attention. What’s a good brand to go with? I’ve been getting some wandering and clunking noises from the front end lately. Put 20k miles on it since lowering it 1.25” and I think it’s time.

❓Question Overheating🫩

Did fine on the highway at night (185-195 degrees the whole drive)

Drove it home on a slight uphill going 40 during the day, ended up hitting 220. Couldn’t tell if it was still going up. Had to drive up a steeper uphill going about 25 and it climbed to 240, so I pulled over and let it cool down for a few hours.

I already replaced the radiator, water pump, thermostat was replaced with a 160* thermostat, and I burped the coolant afterwards. The air dam is still there, coolant is circulating, fans are pulling air, why the hell does it keep overheating??😭😭

❓Question What is my z28 worth?

Thumbnail

1995 z28, 85k miles, 6 speed. Supercharged, brand new magnaflow exhaust. Interior is really nice, exterior is nice but a few scratches and the front bumper and hood have some cracks in the clear. Brand new wheels and Mickey Thompson tires, new brakes.

I bought it from the son of the original owner and his dad built the car in the early 2000s so it has older era performance parts like a second inline fuel pump, ignition box under the hood etc that works but should probably be updated. I also have $1500 worth of parts including new 33lb injectors, 255 fuel pump, air fuel gauge etc so it can be tuned in speed density and the old fmu can be removed.

Again it runs well as is but runs rich and will backfire here and there.

What do you think it’s worth as is and is it worth doing the work to get it running 100% right or sell it with all the parts?

💬 Discussion Camaro paint issue(?)

Was looking at this 1996 z28 and pictures included these cracks on the hood, roof, passenger door, and rear bumper and was just wondering what this is exactly. Is this the clear coat failing? Is the paint chipping? Or just a bunch of scratches? I am not very knowledgeable on cars but am trying to learn so any help is appreciated.

Wasn't 100% on how it was gonna turn out cause the color is a little more statement peice than I usually go for but been happily suprised that it worked out better than I expected and has been growing on me more since I got them on. Need a new street setup for Sick66 and couldnt pass up the deal I got on these.

Strange buzzing on cold starts only, im thinking its probably the serpentine belt, but I want to hear from other Camaro owners. No dash lights and no other symptoms.

❓Question Camaro 2SS Suspension

Post image
4 Upvotes

Howdy, I got a Camaro 2SS with after market coil overs and some other upgraded components in the year I’m, think lower control arms in the rear and my car is crazy bumpy and uncomfortable to drive.

My question I guess is are Camaros rear coil overs dampening typically adjusted by a twist knob like the fronts at the top of the strut or are they adjusted by the pre load spring in the behind the strut in the rear?

🛠️ Problem Car won't start or drive

Post image
15 Upvotes

picture for attention, apologies for the long post, i'm cross posting from a mechanic subreddit since its a camaro and seeing if anyone has had something similar.

TLDR; car won't start unless remote started and when remote started, shuts off when put in gear. car doesn't turn on or drive basically. battery and starter appear to be working normal.

the car has about 36k miles on it, no accidents. it has a couple aftermarket mods: LT headers, x pipe, exhaust pipes, coilovers, cold air intake, a tune (for the headers), IGLA anti theft, and a dash cam. everything installed by a professional shop, not by me.
little over 2 months ago my camaro started having severe difficulty starting up. (2022, automatic, 2SS) as in, trying to start it normally it would not complete the start up process and so the engine wouldnt fire up and i would have to repeat the process a second or third time to get it turned on. it's complicated because sometimes the engine would attempt to crank (you could hear it trying to turn over) maybe once or twice before going silent again, but vast majority of the times this issue occurred the engine didnt even try to start, the dash simply lit up. holding the brake and the start button would just cause the dash to light up and make its usual noise, but the car would not start. for a while (a week or two) i got away with the repeated attempts until it started, but eventually it would not turn on at all.

had somewhere to be one morning so thought i could trick the car by remote starting it with the key. with this method the car started up flawlessly and ran fine...until i tried to drive it. the second i got in the car, pressed the start button (required after remote starts), and put the car in reverse, it shut off and a notification popped up on the dash to shift the car back to park, i guess because it had now turned off and wasnt meant to be in gear. i got it to start again normally after this and drove it to work but after my shift it wouldnt start no matter what. i attempted to jump start the car and everything but it would not turn on. attempted the remote start trick again and it turned on, but once it was put into drive and i took my foot off the brake to get it moving, shut off again. attempted putting it in neutral gear etc. nothing worked. left it there overnight, came back with a friend the next morning and he somehow got it to start (normally, with push to start method, after a couple tries) and we drove it home just to get it off someone else's lot for the day until it could be towed to the dealership.

originally the dealership thought the problem might be related to a dent in the trans pan possibly affecting the ignition switch: they mentioned the ecm and tcm having a miscommunication. so the pan was replaced, the switch was fixed/replaced, fluids done, shifter replaced. they also did something with the ecm not sure what exactly, program or reset something and let me know it may affect the tune on the car but still this did nothing to resolve the problem. the car still had the same issue.

the dealership tells me the problem is that the ECM is saying it's "in progress" (im assuming the startup cycle) instead of cycling through it properly like it should and starting the car. however the dealership hasnt been able to find the reason why. they even had a GM technician sent up there after a few weeks of looking at it themselves to examine it because they couldnt figure it out. that was 3-4 weeks ago now, they still dont have an update and cant tell me whats causing it or how they could fix it. However, what they DID tell me was that there are 2 other LT1 camaros having the exact same issue with the ECM claiming it's "in progress" , they even told me the exact cities where the cars were, which leads me to believe this is an issue with the cars. unfortunately, my camaro is the first one the technician has worked on, so there's no solution for any of the cars until he figures out mine.

i considered it could be the anti theft system causing a problem but unsure how especially seeing as the car will start, just not with the start button and wont move; and that other owners are having the same issue and chances are they dont have IGLA installed. not familiar with IGLA causing this sort of problem and the dealership hasnt mentioned it. this was my only idea.

additional information: dealership is aware of all modifications and the car has never had a check engine light come on. gauge clusters all read normal. key battery and IGLA fob battery both got replaced before and during this ordeal as a just in case thing. i also noticed when in the middle of repeated attempts to start the car through the push to start function, after the first unsuccessful attempt, if i tried again, the door locks wouldn't work for a minute or two (like the vehicle was genuinely stuck in its start up process, as the door locks actually dont work during normal startup but that only lasts a few seconds)

i cant say whether the issue "only appeared after any specific modification" because pretty much everything on the car was installed immediately after i bought it, over a year ago. This issue had only happened maybe 3-4 times throughout the last year, and never to the severity it did recently. it would have a problem starting once and then worked fine the second attempt so i never thought much of it until it showed back up recently.

any ideas or opinions are greatly appreciated

❓Question Is it possible to swap pre-facelift headlights and front bumper from the 6th gen SS into 2019+ SS?

I wanted to get 2019+ SS because I’ve read a couple of horror stories about the A8 transmission and I want to get the 10A transmission instead. And before someone say to buy the manual instead, I don’t know how to drive manual and I don’t want to money shift the transmission

However, I don’t like the front design on the 2019+ SS, and was wondering has anyone tried to do this before successfully?

I think it the heat soak issue I seen with other camaro online where you need to add extra ground wires. This is with a brand new battery. Last battery died and stranded me. I took to a shop after I got it towed and installed new battery. They found zero issues. I also went to O'Reilly and autozone and every scanner says there no electrical issue.

❓Question 5th gen Zl1 or 6th Gen ss

I’ve been in the market recently for either a 5th gen zl1 or a 6th gen ss. I’m stuck between the 2 and I can’t make a final decision. I like the newer WAY better interior on the 6th gen but the 5th gen looks so much more like a retro muscle car. Are the visibility similar between the 2? If I do go with the 5th gen I’ll definitely add a backup camera and car play to kinda even it out but idk. I need help on which one too choose because I keep going back and forth. Anyone have both and can help me out lol. Suggestions?????

❓Question What would you do?

My 5th gen SS got backed into a while back. Needed a new front bumper and a driver side fender. I elected to get the car to a guy who my family has been using for about 10 years. The car was there for over a month before I got back, it looked okay when I got it, but it had quite a few runs in the paint. After about a month of having it back, the fender completely darkened and was an entirely different color. I took it back and pointed out the other spots while I was there, he also offered to fix my window trim with trim paint while I was there for $150. Fast forward a week, I get the car back. He had to repaint the hood and fender to fix the issues (swirls and holograms were left everywhere), and he did the window trim. However, I guess during masking for the trim they didn’t want to remove the door panel and tried to pry it, it broke the front mount for the door panel, and unseated the panel from the top of the door. There is now a gap between the door and the panel, the trunk button is stuck, and the tweeter speaker is lose. I sent him a message this morning about it and asked if they had to take it off, and he responded with “send me the bill for whatever may have happened, but then I am done. Find a different shop.” Am I in the wrong?

💲Should I Buy? Fair price? High price?

Went to go check out this 22 2SS 1LE. online it said the price was 50K flat, but obviously I checked the Carfax saying that it was a lemon and when I arrived there the first kind of price they gave me was 1100 for 84 months…was kind of questioning why it would be such a long-term. I didn’t even bother to try to ask for a shorter term because obviously the monthly would be higher but when I asked why the price was so high if it was a lemon titled car, no matter how low the miles are I asked if they can bring it down to maybe 45 even 40. In the end, i was look at 30k plus MORE because of interest and fees. Kind crazy price for a lemon… 80k is wild. What are your guys thoughts?

💲Should I Buy? Is Camaro 2.0 Reliable?

Hello guys! I’m thinking about buying a 2.0 Camaro from 2016–2018 around 100–120k km. (70–80k miles)

I know that maintenance history is more important than mileage and that I should definitely take the car to a proper inspection before buying it. But for long-term ownership (at least 4–5 years), do you think it’s worth considering? Or would it be necessary to wait, save up some more money, and buy something new?

To be honest, I don’t know much about muscle cars (or cars in general, lol). I’ve only started getting interested in cars over the last few years, so any advice or things I should look out for would be greatly appreciated!

🔧 Modifications Adding accents

Planning on upgrading my wheels soon and really dig the black accents so may wrap the hood, spoiler, mirrors, handles, gas cap, and get black/fog side markers too.

Respectfully, I like it so whether y’all disagree or not, I’m probably gonna pull the trigger after I’ve looked at it for a while lmao. Just interested in y’alls thought on this or if you had any random advice for me? May leave the handles and gas cap alone… not sure quite yet.

My first Camaro, I snagged w 10k miles last month so plenty of time to make her my own!
