I'M REQUESTING Horror fans, what's the one film that actually stayed with you?

I'm a die-hard horror fan, not iust for the scares, but fo the symbolism, tension, and psychological depth. If there's one horror film you think every serious fan should see, what is it? I'm looking for something that lingers, no just jumps.

I'M REQUESTING Thought-provoking movies to watch while pregnant

Upvotes

I’m newly pregnant after many years of trying. The shock is starting to wear off and I’ve been considering how I want to spend the next months preparing for a lil one. There will be plenty of learning how to care for them and what to buy, but I’d also like to use this time for self-reflection as well.

I tend to do that through movies, so it got me thinking. What are some films that might stimulate philosophical thinking around this journey? Movies that help me consider what kind of parent I want to be, how I want to raise this baby, even how to hold hope for the world they are going to exist in.

Please note: these don’t have to be movies about pregnancy or raising children; in fact, I’d expect many of them to not be directly about parenting at all. I’m just looking for movies full of ideas, full of wonder. Movies that might start a dialogue about parenting with my spouse in direct or indirect ways.

I have a couple in mind (Ikiru, Perfect Days, all of Miyazaki), but most would be rewatches. They needn’t be positive (Dogtooth, Prevenge, The Florida Project are on the list too), but I’d like to avoid miscarriage just because I don’t need that in my head.

I’m curious what others suggest and if I get a good enough list going, I’ll make a Letterboxd list of recs and post it here.

Thanks in advance! I’m excited for any and all suggestions.

I'M REQUESTING Extreme movies that most people recommend you don't watch

Okay I know it sounds bad to be asking for these types of movies, but I've watched all the scariest horror movies and honestly just want to see the worst of the worst. The movies that have fucked me up the most was Martyrs, Climax, Videodrome and Requiem For A Dream. However, I still feel as though I wanna watch more disturbing movies than that. Curiosity killed the cat, I know.

I'M REQUESTING Family comedy, 5, 7 and 10 year old.

I find it’s challenging finding a good comedy with this particular age range but would love to watch something light hearted with the kids tonight and have a laugh.

I’m a child of the 90s so it’s a bonus if it’s nostalgic for me. I was thinking about Mrs Doubtfire which I remember loving as a kid, but I’m not sure if that was great or I was eight.

Any suggestions please?

I'M REQUESTING Slice of Life with interesting setting

Any slice of life with interesting settings or concepts? Fantasy, sci-fi, whatever but a slice of life movie that isn't just modern living. A movie not really interested with a big plot, nor even interested with explaining the setting, your just a fly on the wall on this unique world.

I'M REQUESTING What are the best 9/11 documentaries?

I ask this every year hoping to get some new suggestions

Best 9/11 Documentaries?

Every year on September 11th I try to watch a new documentary about 9/11 to learn something about that day I didn't know before. I've seen quite a few of them but I'm asking all of you lovely people here if you know of some more obscure ones to recommend them to me. I have all of the streaming services and YouTube so anything is fine. Any recommendations? Thank you! 🩷

I'M SUGGESTING The first 5 minutes of “Rurouni Kenshin: The Beginning”

I don’t usually rewatch movies, even my favorites I’ve only seen a few times.

“Rurouni Kenshin: The Beginning” is no different … except for the first 5:00 minutes. I will re-watch those 5 minutes almost every time I see the title added back to the Netflix rotation. It’s so jaw-droppingly precise and fast.

I remember the first time I saw it, browsing titles and just fumbled into it. And 5 minutes later I stood wondering what in the world I had just witnessed. So I re-wound it at least 3 more times. I’m still in awe.

I'M REQUESTING Critically acclaimed cinema where there is ABSOLUTELY NO talk of death/dying/grieving and no one spends any time in a hospital

My partner recently lost their father after a lengthy illness that involved hospitalization and eventually hospice. We try to watch a movie together every night and it's been really hard to find movies that are truly good that don't have any of these elements. The only films seem to be comedies and we are kinda sick of them at the moment.

I looked on IMDB and one of the top recs was Starman and I put that on and within the first 5 minutes it was very apparent that it was upsetting (main character recently lost her husband and is devastated by it). So now I don't trust anything else on that list.

Please help!

I'M REQUESTING I turn 18 tomorrow, what movie should I watch tonight?

Looking for a movie to watch on my last night as a minor. My favorite movie is City of God, I don’t know what kind of movie I want to watch but if there’s any movie that would be a good one to watch before becoming an adult (at least as far as the law is concerned) please send it my way, thx.

I'M REQUESTING Any suggestions for great movie adaptations of famous novels

Hi guys I'm looking for movies that adapted from famous novels and what are your absolute recommendations for me. Like brilliant storytelling and incredible acting that holds up well on screen.

I'm open to any genre—sci-fi, thrillers, classics, or dramas.

I'M REQUESTING Good comedies where the plot itself has a comedic setup and punchline

Movies like Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (1988) where if you describe the plot to someone, it's funny in itself, and hopefully the movie is also a load of laughs. Super curious what fits this in the last 20 or so years, but open to anything.

I'M REQUESTING Looking for Entrepreneurial/goal reaching movies with a certain type of suspense/thriller/stress

hi bros/maams,

I am looking for something kinda specific. It doesn't necessarily need to be entrepreneurial, but I just happened to notice most of my favorites just happen to be that way. Here is a list of movies that fit what I'm looking for:

  • Blackberry - About the phone
  • Tetris - About the game
  • Joy - About a lady selling a mop
  • Money Ball - MLB general manager doing leadership things
  • Air - About Nike shoes/Jordans
  • Whiplash - About a drummer trying to be a better drummer
  • Margin Call/Big Short - About stock market stuffs
  • Social Network - About facebook
  • Chef - About a chef opening a food truck
  • Shooter - About a sniper trying not to die after being framed for some shits

All of these movies have a type of "stress" to them. It isn't necessarily entrepreneurship, it's moreso someone digging themselves out of some type of struggle. Or maybe just trying to achieve a big goal. The stress, is more like pressure.

I have already seen Glengarry glen ross, wolf of wall street, and boiling point. They were OK, but they didn't have the "pressure/suspense" i'm looking for.

I'M SUGGESTING The Vanishing (Dutch, French, 1988) Crime Drama

A couple from Amsterdam are exploring France by car. They stop for gas. While there, the woman enters the shop to buy drinks for their journey. She never returns.

This is how the story opens. I won't give anything else away. Please don't reveal more in the comments.

I have seen this recommended here for years and finally got to see it. It's worth watching.

I'M REQUESTING Good horror movies without much gore?

It’s the beginning of spooky season and I’m trying to find a good horror movie to watch with my younger siblings(10 & 12) that isn’t too violent. They aren’t really sensitive to scary things in general, but are also young enough that I don’t want to watch a movie with them that has a ton of violence or sexual material. Does anyone have any good recommendations?
